Val, the hay comes from a bale I buy from a horse supplies, its usually very sweet smelling, fresh with plenty of green bits. They do have timothy hay to nibble on much of the time but I can't cover the whole cage with it as its very expensive. The meadow hay is often very soft, not that I've sat on it lol but it feels soft. Clover, I am going to see if I can get a bale of hay too. My son lives in a pretty rural area and I know that there are horse supply places up there somewhere. My son has a truck so it would be no problem for him to get a bale for me. I always like the way your piggy's look so comfy in it! When I was going up we used to have our own horses so I'm no stranger to bales of hay, but how long does one bale last for two piggies? I'm talking as bedding only, not as a food source. I will continue to buy timothy and Orchard grass for that. I could easily store a bale of hay inside my garage. Of course my son will not like that idea, but I'm the boss here! Now go get it son! lol

Thank you KJ, Carolyn and Val.
Hi Val, I'm not really sure how long my bales last as it depends what Thumper gets up to in his cage lol Sometimes he likes to re-arrange his cage so I have to tidy/clean his cage up more than once aday.
The bales aren't expensive and the ones I buy are good quality so the piggies will eat it as well as their Timothy hay and herb grasses. As long as the bale is sweet smelling and as you know, you have to check for things that shouldn't be there like thistle etc. Once I even found a milk bottle top so I always check before putting it in the cages.
I've heard some people store the bale in an old quilt cover to help contain any mess.

Oh, great pigtures, and the vids are great, sad but great. I learned the hard way about taking time to get pigtures, as they just aren't with us long enough. Now I have oodles of pigtures, and will always have those memories. Great job!!!
I love the baby piggy. She does a fabulous job. I bet the kids feel as if they have a new cagemate, lol.
