she's a cutie - love the bin lid idea too - I saw a small office one like that in the 99p store. I'm gonna buy one now and use it as a toy, would've never thought of it if i hadn't seen your pic

Catheryn, I would never have thought of using bin tops as hideys, but now that you mention it, it's a great idea. Even the bins make great hideys, with or without the lids. Cute Zippy pic: These are my bean, and you're not taking them!! I'm too sexy for my fur, too sexy for my fur, too sexy by far!! Zippy the bouncer: There's a $5 cover charge if you want to go in this cage and party!!

It's probably one of the least expensive pigloos around. Especially since it comes with the bin, to boot, lol. It's raining poos, halleluia. It's raining poos, halleluia. I was cleaning the second level of the cage this afternoon, and I didn't realize it but my poo slurper was kicking poos off the second level and onto the first level, all over the kids. At first, since I could see them running around out the corner of my eye, I thought they were just playing. Then I realized I was bombing them with poos, lol. They were very appreciative when I stopped the poo slurper. Had to redo the bottom section after raining all those poos down on their poor little heads. Is anyone else seeing a pattern here, lol:

Here's a really cute pigture of Zippy sound asleep under the hay loft. It's so nice to know they feel safe enough to just zonk out anywhere, lol. Momma making the most of her hidey. LG loves the Ikea wall pocket hideys. She's usually as far back in it as she can get, so this was a rare picture of her.

As many of you know, I have free-range piggies, who have a cage, but they can come and go as they please. I recently swapped a cubby I had for a bureau, which gave me a great chance to create an out-of-cage feeding station in a contained area, rather than the one I had on newspaper, in a corner. That one was always all over the floor, and the piggy butts apparently didn't fit on the newspaper, as they always managed to pee on the carpet. The new feeding station has plenty of room, I put plastic carpet protector on the floor to keep the carpet clean, and they love to pile under there, play in and eat the hay, and fill themselves with pellets and water.

I figure it's the most like the wild I can provide for them. They have a couple of different places to eat and hide, several places to hide, and lots of room to run around. It also gives me a chance to see how they act in different situations, so I get to know them better, and can tell when they're really not acting normal. They have a lot of fun, and love their area. My favorite thing is to see them totally flaked out in the middle of the floor, sound asleep. Now that's a safe and happy piggy, lol.

Do you spend all day sweeping. Whilst trying to bond my 2 rabbits they have been in the house together every night and I seem to have a brush and mop permanently attached to my hands! In all fairness when the piggies come in I restrict them to the kitchen whereas the rabbits have had free range of hallway and living room as well.

Wow, it is amazing to see free Rangers. I have only read about free rangers but never seen actual real life free rangers.
Love the pictures, they are great.
P.S Have you read about Peter Gurneys Free Rangers?

Newpig, I have a good vacuum cleaner, a broom and dust pan, and a carpet washing machine. I clean the carpet once a week, vacuum at least once a day, and spot clean with the Dust Buster poo slurper I also use to vac out the two levels of the cage. I found I spilled enough hay from the cage, that I don't have that much more with the feeding station I have now. The last feeding station was on a newspaper, and since their butts always seemed to be off the newspaper, I had to wash the carpet practically every day. Now, I line the feeding station with newspaper, and wrap up all I can and throw it out in one piece. To clean the two levels of the cage and the feeding station, and do a quick vac of the whole room, takes about 15 minutes per day.
Donna, yes, I read about Peter Gurneys, but after mine were free ranging. Between the two levels of the cage, which is six feet long, and three feet wide on the lower level, 21 inches wide on the upper level, and the office/piggy room, I hope I've recreated as close to a "free" situation as I can. The kids roam between the levels of the cage, the room, together and separately. Sometimes they're all in the cage or all in the feeding station, but there's also an easy chair that doubles as a big hidey, and some corners that double as hideys, so they have lots of places to run between, hide in, play around and generally be free. I have a policy of not picking up the pigs when they're out of the cage, unless it's an emergency like they have to be at the vet. That establishes a truly free area for them. I just changed the cage bedding and rearranged the hidies and things. They know I rearrange, so Momma was back in the cage as soon as the ramp was in place, in and out of every hidey and cuddle cup, checking the hay section and both levels. When Little Girl went back in, Zippy started popcorning around the room like "yay, I finally have the place all to myself". He drank from the water, ate pellets, played in the hay, hid in all the corners and hideys in the room, popcorning his way around the room, lol. I'd say he was one happy piggy.

Spring has sprung, and that means fresh dandelions and grasses picked right outside the door. The kids think they're the greatest treats in the world, and help spread out the store-bought treats like romaine and endive. Store bought dandelions are huge, and before I can feed them all, they go bad, so it's good to have some dandy little dandelions outside the door to pick for the furkids. I don't think there's any real food value to the grasses, so they're just a fun munch once in a while.
