:-*Hello my online family I got some bad news about me to share, I broke well fractured my Left Foot on Sunday Morning. The 5th Metatarsal bone and I am wrapped up and on crutches until I get to the DR on Thursday Morning, I fell doing my paper route and I think my leg gave out on me and I went down with all my weight on my left foot, I knew it was not right cause I heard a crunch and a squish in my foot. I managed to get up and I was with my Mom so thank God for that but I finished the route as I hopped along. Then she took me to the ER where I had X-rays and all that fun stuff. I will know more on Thursday but from what I have been reading it says that it probably will take 6-8 weeks to heal. My toes and foot are swollen and a nice shade of black and blue. lol I hurt and I am doing better getting around on the crutches but it was a pain on Sunday and Yesterday. Now my Mom has to do the route on her own until I can walk. I feel bad but I can't help. Well that is what is up with me and everyone else is fine. Sugar is looking after me as she is very concerned about me. She was always very sensative about my feelings. When I came back from the ER I went over to the cage and said hi babies, mommy is home and I am fine. Lucy looked up and said okay I going back to my hay. Sugar stopped eating her hay and ran over to me and stood up on her back feet and looked up at me and tried to kiss me. I leaned down and gave her a kiss on the nose and said I'm okay baby boo I promise. She got down and went back to eating here hay. She is so sweet to me. She protects me all the time. Lucy has not caught on to that yet. lol Well I will stop now and rest up but if anyone needs me let me know. I am here got no where to go or nothing to do for now. I love you all Hugs Theresa

Ouch! (Nice touch about the crunching and squishing! *winces*) You poor thing, and what a nuisance that you won't be able to get about for a while. Hope you get a good pace going on the crutches - I've had a quick go on other people's a couple of times and it's hard work isn't it!
Rest up, and I hope you heal up quickly xx

My dad sprained his ankle before hopping over our back fence over a fallen tree. He was on crutches for a while too. I would baby it for a while 'till its better. It does sound quite painful! At least you have the best meds....... a piggy's love! ;D Best wishes and hopes for a speedy recovery!

I hope it heals up soon so you can get around again. You wouldn't want Sugar to worry about you too much would you. Do what your doctor tells you and you should be up and about in no time. Hugs!!

Follow your instructions and you should heal up nicely. It's a bummer to have an injury.

OOOOOUCH!!! We tend to take getting around easily for granted!!! When I was 17 I was walking and I just fall well I crushed my ankle, ripped it off the bone(or whatever) it's attached to, broke the smaller of the 2 leg bones and ripped all the tendons that hold your ankle to your lower leg!!! I have 2 plates, 8 screws, 2 clips and 2 big scars!!! I too like you kept going I refused to think it was broke!!! I got up and tried to walk---hey I didn't want to miss my Grandma's birthday party!LOL!!! My mom is a paramedic and she's the 1 that got the call to my little accident. When she pulled up we looked in each others eyes and she yelled "Don't you dare!" well I tried to set my own ankle and knowing my favorite sock was about to be cut off I pulled it off myself! I ended up having 2 different surgries and stayed awake for both surgries(spinal block). Which by the way if anyone's planning on having a spinal block don't! My mom was dead set against me doing it eventhough she signed the papers! She said it's more dangerous to do a spinal than to go out. A spinal paralyzes you from waist down and if they hit a nerve(or wrong 1) you could never walk again!!!

***Update*** Went to the DR on the 30th and he xrayed my foot and the break was still there but healing very slowly. He said to come back in 2 months and he would check it out again. He didn't say to go to PT. I was like hey Doc I want to start PT and get this foot better so I can get a job and make some money and get up and around. He said sure that would be okay. Now he didn't suggest PT in the first place he wanted me to wait 6 more weeks and see how I do, Is that nuts or what? Then he said after 6 more weeks then you can do PT. NO WAY, I am in PT now and had my first session on Thursday and my PT massaged my foot and moved it around and flexed it and it felt good. I just don't understand why the DR wouldn't suggest PT ASAP for me. I will have more updates as I get them. Hugs Theresa

As long as the spot isn't cracked up again, doing stuff to it!! Be careful sweetie!!

PT gets the muscles working again after not being used or fully used for a long time. Muscle strength and range of motion are most important, but it's also a time to find any problems such as numbness or pain. Though PT seems gentle, each motion pulls on a muscle, which in turn pulls on the bone. If the bone isn't completely healed, PT can rebreak the bone or cause the break to heal improperly.
Remember back in 2007 when I broke both my wrists. I had to have a plate put in one and both were in casts. At PT they measured the starting range of motion, how well I could turn my wrists, bend my hand forward and backward, etc., and I did exercises to get that back to normal. Even though the exercises were very gentle, I always had to ice my wrists afterward to stop the swelling and pain.
Be patient sis. If the doctor said no PT yet, you can get massages, but skip the PT. You're taking a long time to heal, so you really don't want to risk making it take any longer.
Hugs!!!

Yes, I agree with KJ and Laurie! Don't rush into the PT without making sure the bone is healed. Better to be safe than sorry Theresa. Listen to your doctor sweetie, if he wants you to wait 6 weeks, then I would suggest you wait. You don't want to have a setback by pushing the bone and cracking it again. hugs

He probably would like the bone to heal a bit more before you start PT. I figure he is being cautious if the bone is healing slowly. A re-injury would not be a good thing to have.
