Hello, we are new to the forum and wanted to say hi! We live in Michigan (Detroit area), and I am new to having Cavy friends. These are my Girls; Reese is the big 2.5 lbs. (40 ounces) 'chocolate and peanut butter' one. she is very sweet and a bit more 'lap-friendly', loves to be brushed and will eat anything you put in front of her nose! Gigi is a little 1 lbs. (16 ounces) Lemon Agouti, despite her small size she is the boss! She tends to be a bit more skiddish but is warming up to being picked up.

Welcome!! I have a piggie here that's double the weight of the one that's boss. Size doesn't matter, lol, not even for pigs.

Thanks! It is funny to see little Gigi always get her way, Reese seems to be so mellow she just doesn't care. They were elementary classroom pets last year that the teacher did not want back when this school year started. I am so glad I found them.

Beatiful piggies(: Congrats!(: Here are some random tips for you: Use only aspen or carefresh bedding, pine and cedar are really bad. Wash any veggie you give you're piggie. dont give too many fruits, it causes sour mouths. give you're piggies unlimited hay. make sure you're piggie gets atleast 20 mins of playtime per dayy!(: Make sure u have no vitiman drops in you're water. You're piggie food should have nothing in it besides the long green stuff. (Plain pellets) the ones with corn and stuff is bad. kaytee and oxbow are the best brand!(:

I think Skipper had the top hammoc so he could fall on Gilligan. Wouldn't be as funny if skinny little Gilligan fell on big fat Skipper. And if Gilligan were on top, Skipper would catch him sneaking out to get in trouble...no show!!!
I just noticed your girls were classroom pets. I applaud you not naming one of them Linny after the Wonder Pets.

You're piggie food should have nothing in it besides the long green stuff. (Plain pellets) the ones with corn and stuff is bad. kaytee and oxbow are the best brand!(: I wish it was as simple as that. It depends on where you live. Over here, those plain pellets are no success, most brands that made some even have stopped producing them. Mainland Europe has pellets that are shaped in many shapes. Each shape has the same basis, which means if a piggie eats only some shapes, they will get all nutrients covered. Each shape just has one extra veggies added for taste. This supports the natural instinct of piggies who love to rummage between food. Dried corn in it, or even the odd popcorn blob in it: there is nothing wrong with that, it's tasty, it has nutrients and it's yummie. Most brands here are now finally leaving the tiny seeds out of the piggie food. Yet, sunflower seeds with a rounded tip can stay in 'm, as they are very healthy and with no sharp tip, are safe to use. So, not all mixed pellet types are bad.

Welcome to wheekers! You have cute piggies and Reese has a very interesting coat pattern. I just noticed your girls were classroom pets. I applaud you not naming one of them Linny after the Wonder Pets. Ick, does that happen a lot? I can't stand the wonder pets.

Gogo-I got hooked on Wonder Pets, and the first person I met in my area with a cavy had named it Linny.
Jeanine-The Wonder Pets are a guinea pig, duckling and turtle in a classroom, who respond to emergency calls that come in on their tin can/string phone. It's a children's show, and I think it's on Nickolodean.
