I still think a maze is something they enjoy the most. Building it with cardboard boxes can be fun. I have two mazes: one from waffle blocks and one from cutting boards. Besides that, I have a feeding egg, that keeps them busy all day. Best toy I even bought. Only available in Europe so far, but food balls are available everywhere as far as I know. They have to work to get a treat out and they love it! Oooh I feel like quoting everyone tonight!!! Anyway if I gave my Neo the egg he would take one look at it and give up then complain until I finally give in. No wounder he's huge. If I gave it to Gully he would have a go, but then get frustrated and run around squeaking and having a piggy panic attack, and then burrow under the paper lining and sulk. Spencer, I believe, is the only one who would actually be able to get it out, his nose is tiny, but he's more gung ho than Neo and doesn't suffer from ADHD like Gully. Plus I think he's the brightest of the bunch.

12 pack soda cans are (in the US) sold in refrigerator friendly boxes these days - long rectangles. They are the perfect size for making up a piggy maze tunnel. I guess cats like em too...

You are 10 hours ahead of me, meaning if it's midnight there, it's 2 pm here.

Well I'm glad you were on at a more reasonable time than I was. 12 house later and I'm still here (with brief sleep intermission) and its 11 am. So its 1 am in Belgium. Which means I'm probably the only one on now... ;D

I'm gonna go find some cardboard boxes to butcher for my boys to play in! It's been awhile since I played with a cat in a box...was lots of fun. Edit* I got hold of a tissue box and made a tunnel for my boys, and well, they squished it. Neo, who is almost as big as the box himself decided to go and try to through the hole in which you get the tissue out and got his head stuck, after a bit of squealing and struggling him I got him out. Silly pig. I took the Stanley knife to it and made the hole bigger and put a hole on the opposite side for them to run through it. Hilarious when Neo went through though. But then I went away and they squished it. Typical. ;D

Heheh, that's really funny. I tried that tissue box tunnel the day after I adopted them. Milo just went around it and decided to jump on it, and then when I came back, I found out that he dragged it into the doorway of the pigloo, and I presume Tigger decided he had a bit of a chew at it, and then they left it alone. I gave them a pingpong ball to play with once; they just chucked it into their waterbowl, to be cheeky and crank Mum up!

Kooky loves to noseball with a small ball every now and then. Druppy used to join her.

I love the cat/fridge pack pic. That's great. Of my three, only LG gets the treats out of the egg. The other two let her do that, then eat the treats. If you have a small cardboard box, you could cut holes in it and use it for treats. Some would fall out anyway, they would knock some out of the box and nibble through to the rest. Supermarkets usually have certain days when they have a lot of boxes, and have a really good selection. Making a maze, some beds or even hidies out of cardboard boxes gives the pigs something to do, and it's edible, lol.

Is it okay for pigs to eat cardboard? When my boys did, I told them off. Is the ink okay?

Cardboard is OK, but the ink depends on where the box was printed. In Europe, they use toxic and carcinogenic ink, for example. Maybe it's just best to be safe regarding cardboard boxes not to use the ones with colored print.

Most US cardboard boxes are either printed with nontoxic ink or have stickers that can be pealed off before the pigs eat them. Pigs eat the edges, not the bulk of the box, and usually don't get to eat in too far before they soak it with pee if it has a bottom. If you get supermarket boxes, check that it's from a US company, as we get many things in from other countries that might not use nontoxic ink.

Would anyone know if Australian ink is okay for them, though it is probably imported so I don't really know.
Is paper okay too? Neo was nibbling on newspaper this morning and I told him off.

Newspaper ink in the US is soy based, so it's safe. In Australia, all inks used are low toxicity, but that means too toxic for small pets like piggies.
White paper is OK every now and then. It contains bleaching materials to make it white, so recycled paper is better, or brown grayish paper, so white paper shouldn't be handed to piggies daily.

I don't give them paper to eat specially, it's their bed lining.

my piggies have newsprint down as a base which they happily shread - they dont seem to eat it tho, just like the noises it makes. (also... UK newsprint ink is fine - i work for a newspaper and my boss assures me our ink is vegetable based!) reguarding toys... my pigs love nothing more than ripping cardboard boxes and toilet tubes to shreads! - i hide treats in them which keeps them amused! i love the denim jeans idea tho!

We just bought a small space heater for the living room. Hub unpacked it, handed me the cardboard box and said "here, piggy toy." I think I'm getting predictable, or he saw the eager way I was eyeing that box, lol. I give the girls toilet paper tubes and newspaper to shred. I don't know if they eat the cardboard from the tube, as I never find any around the cage, but they do have a grand time making chewing noises and watching the tube bounce around. Momma is my newspaper pig. She will happily shred newspaper for long periods of time. I agree that it's the sound, as she doesn't eat it either, just tears it, the longer the tear, the better.

also... UK newsprint ink is fine - i work for a newspaper and my boss assures me our ink is vegetable based! I'm afraid that doesn't apply for all ink used in the UK, as not all companies use soy based ink over there. The inks can be contain substances such as chromium, lead, cadmium, benzene, toluene, naphthalene, which are toxic and carcinogenic. You can contact a newspaper to ask if they ink is soy based to use for the pigs, for example.
