Hello everyone! As some of you know, I am babysitting my bff's guinea pig, Doris. She is approximately 1.5-2 years old. She is an Abyssinian. She is a little shy but is very friendly. If you hold her and skin is near her mouth, she will give you little piggy kisses. She likes to burrow in hay and likes to sleep in her pellet bowl. My own piggy, Edward, was adopted from the Nevada Humane Society. He likes to squeak when my mom is making salad or something with veggies, because he knows my mom will give him something. If he hears any veggie baggies rustling, he freaks out and will squeak until you give him something. He is a little lazy and doesn't like to run around or explore (unlike Doris who is a little energizer bunny). Edward can be a brat too. He doesn't like your hand any where near his food unless you are giving it to him or he will nip your hand. He knows when I want to get some sleep because when I turn of my light, he starts playing with his water bottle and makes it rattle. He is always at the side of his cage trying to get Doris's attention and talk to her. Here are some pigtures of them. This is a video of my guinea pig playing with my black lab, Kizzie's tail and Kizzie playing back. To watch, just click on the frozen image. This is Edward after his bath This is Edward playing with his origami box with veggies in it This is Doris coming to see what I have in my hand. Veggies? Yup! And this is Edward and Doris visiting. They do this very often

Hahaha, no that's piggy stupidity!!! I think he liked getting wagged by the dog's tail, as he kept going back to it to make it wag again, lol!!!
I see he trashed his hay holder. Was that for Doris's benefit. They are as bad as adolescent boys when there's a sow around. Doris is beautiful. Having just lost an abby, I love seeing a wet one again.

He never lets his hay dispenser stay nice. Every time I put his hay dispenser back nicely, he just pulls it down again. He is such a stubborn putz. But he's mine and I love him! ;D It's almost what Doris does. After I'm done cleaning her cage, she likes to rearrange her pigloo and put it in the center of her cage instead of the side. Silly girl.

Morty has to rearrange his houses and hidies, does it constantly. He's figured out that he's big enough to destroy his waffle block triangle, so it's his first act each time I put it back together. I've had several mover pigs, who jus loved to more their houses/pigloos. LG used to scoot them the length of the cage, just for fun. Pigloos seem to be a prime source of fun to move. I think it's a sign of a pig with an active and creative mind.
Edward obviously finds the hay holder more fun than the hay, lol. They will entertain themselves!!!

I think that Doris has a much more active mind than Edward but I read that girl guinea pigs are supposed to be a lot more active than boys. When I fill up Edward's hay dispenser, he tears it down and lays down to eat the hay. So then I just hook it back up and he'll go back to tearing it down. Sometimes he has so much hay on the floor of his cage, that there is no sense in filling the hay dispenser again. But I love him!
I love piggies!!!!!! They are so cute!

Well, I had boys for most of my life, I only had girls since 2004. I never saw a difference regarding playing, yet it does differ per pig's personality. Some pigs love to be active most of the day, some prefer to take it easy. Some are pranksters, some are movers and some love to demolish whatever you build, as part of the fun.

Mort and Molly are so different. She's a calm, slow, sweet pig. He trashes things, popcorns around, talks to himself and loves to go from level to level. Molly will spend long periods on one level, probably just easier than moving around a lot. I think the differences in their personalities makes it so much more insteresting.

This morning I made my piggies a gourmet breakfast. Containing romaine lettuce, mixed greens, spinach, celery, carrots, and orange bell pepper. Here is the plate before the piggies dig in Edward goes for the mixed greens first Doris goes for the romaine lettuce first (it's already in her mouth) Yummy!

Yodel Pig- Ha! With that many Piggies, it would be gone in the blink of an eye! Pigjes- If it were an all-you-can-eat buffet, I'd have little rolly polly piggies!

humm...it really depends on the pig. Portabella will eat anything!!! She is fond of blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, mulberries...oranges Reese & Gigi will nibble a strawberry and an orange but shy away from the others - more for Portabella!!!! Portabella also likes string beans, while the others don't dare go near them.
So finicky on fruit but vivacious on veggies!

Ooh, that looked so good. I'm sure they love their salads. I used to give mine salads, but just can't get enough veggies that don't upset their innards. I have to dole out the treats slowly over time. Great pics. They can be pin ups in the cage!!!

My Ed is sooooo picky because he didn't have a large variety to choose from at the Humane Society so I have to experiment to see what he liked. He tends to like green things. Hehe.

Mort and Molly both eat just about anything, so I could do quite a salad for them, but I'd be scraping mushy poos of everything including the pigs. I miss being able to do those salads. Creating them was so much fun. Ed will eat more and more types of veggies as he gets used to the idea. If you find his mostest favorite, you can make that is holiday and special ocassion treat, or his lap time/snuggle treat.
