R.I.P.
I got Harry on July 21st, 2004. I remember the day clearly. I was only nine years old then, my brother was just seven years going onto his eighth. My sister was seventeen then. We were originally planning to buy a parrot or parakeet, but when we saw the guinea pigs, we couldn't resist. My sister said that we should get one, so we looked around and saw Harry. He was a blond and shy guinea pig, we could easily tell. While all of the other energetic piggies ran around and nodded heads at each other, Harry just sat there, lonely and alone. I felt sorry for him so we got him. Plus, he was the cutest guinea pig in the cage. Back then the cost for one guinea pig was only $20. We bought him and headed home. I remember tricking my mom and making her think that we actually got a parrot. I also remember Harry peeing in his box during the ride back home. My mom screamed out loud when we revealed what was inside the box: a small and cute animal that looked a lot like a guinea pig, not a bird or anything else.
Harry died on the night of April 26th, 2005. It had almost been his one year anniversarry. I remember the next day being a Wednesday and school day and me crying in the morning. My school day that day was sad. I cried and my best friend Raquel who had a hamster comforted me. It was a sad and memorable day. We buried Harry when we came back home and Raquel helped me. We also left notes on his grave saying how much we loved him and truly cared about him.
The cause of Harry's death was unknown, but we were thinking it was sickness and disease of mites. Harry had had mites for a few months before he died, and his skin had gone really ugly and torn up. He also began losing a lot of weight.
Now I'm 13. I miss Harry so much, but we will never forget him. He was part of our family and he always will be.
