Meet Mac. We went to a local dog pound for a look around this weekend. Dog pounds here do operate kill policies so very sorry situation to see any dog there. A lot work with great kennels and sanctuaries to try and save the dogs. We saw a couple of dogs we liked. Went away to have a think. Had decided on one in particular but when went back today he was gone. So spent some time with two other dogs we liked and adopted one of them. He is approx 4 or 5 months old. Will be neutered when 6 months. He's mainly a lab. He was penned with another dog and the pound said thought one had some staffy - looking at them he thought the other one was the part staff but now we have him home think our boy could have some staffy in him. Main thing he is a great with the kids, walks well on lead, isn't at all bothered about the cats (in fact he turned tail and run from Dino and Heidi) and is generally wonderful. Here are a couple of pics of him lounging in the hallway.

Ooh, he is gorgeous, and he sooooo reminds me of our last dog. He was black lab/chow, with a white star or T on his chest. Othewise all black. I don't know much about Staffys, but labs are usually gentle creatures who just love to be part of a family.
Welcome to Wheekers, Mac!!!

oh hes a cutie-patootie! did you know that black dogs are least likely to be adopted from shelters - its sad to think about it but people pick other colored dogs over black dogs for some weird reason. Not us, no way!!!!
he has a block head...which could be Staffy, and if he has goofy ears thats a dead give away. If he is part Staffy then its good because he won't turn into a giant lab, and may stay on the smaller side. Plus having a Lab x Pit myself, I can tell you they are loving, loyal, and snuggle bugs!

He went to vet for check up today and start his vaccines. He's been wormed and frontlined as well. He has coughed a couple of times but vet said no sign of inflamed trachea etc so just to observe him for now. He does have slight case of conjunctivitis so on antibiotic eye drops. He was really good for the vet. Had his temp taken, got injections etc and not a word out of him. Vet checked his teeth and has a mixture of baby and adult teeth so ages him about 4 or 5 months. She is certain he is a a staffy/lab cross and thinks he will be a big dog but not a huge lab. He's just over 14kg so not a bad weight for his age and said has seen labs about 13 weeks the same size as him. My vet is a staffy fan and said that staffy/lab cross is a good mix.

He's a beauty!! I do love black dogs and have a soft spot for anything with a bit of lab in it so he gets a thumbs up from me! Looking forward to hearing tales about him!

Oh yes we have been caught a few times with that whiplash tail.
Encountered the scenario I had been dreading today. Out walking Mac with the kids this afternoon and we met a huge dog (like a greyhound/wolfhound cross) standing in the middle of our little country road and not a person in sight. Got the kids a bit behind me, held firmly to Mac and as approached told the other dog to go home. After a few tense moments with Mac standing very squarely and ears pricked high (but no growling or barking) the other dog ran past us and then took off like a rocket. I've never seen that dog anywhere round here before and today he was 2 minutes away from my house.

A deer hound/ wolf hound/ greyhound must have been HUGE! are you sure it wasn't a deer?

Glad nothing happened. That's the only thing about a new dog. You just don't know what will push his buttons and what won't. Whew!!!
