I hope this ok to post. Marsha Weaver from www.CozyCavy.com lost everything last night in a tornado. Guinea pigs and rats are missing/dead, no one knows about them yet. Her daughter has a broken shoulder and lung issues. Their dog lost its eye. Sponsor a guinea pig has started a fundraiser for Marsha and her family please help out or pass along. sponsoraguineapig.blogspot.com/2011/04/for-month-of-may.htmlAll that is left of her house is a cement slab. Marsha makes guinea pig and rat item and sells them but thats not all. She also donates and makes items for guinea pig and rat shelters around the USA. Shes an amazing woman who did not deserve this. If this is against the rules, just pull it down.

I was just getting ready to post the link when I saw this. Glad you posted it. This weather has been horrible, and the poor Weavers have to deal with so much right now. She does so much for so many small furries, and I love her cozies. Wish I could do more to help her UPDATE: From all the different reports it seems the Weavers basically had no time to do anything but evacuate themselves for safety. It's unknown if all the small furries in the rescue perished, or if there's just been no time to look for survivors. The latest report is that some people living nearby but outside the stricken area will be heading there to help look for survivors, and probably help with clean up and the other tasks that have to be so hard for Marsha to face right now. I hope Jen Sawyer will do some updates, too, as she has a more direct line on the info.

Marsha's sister posted this earlier today:
This morning we found out that Marsha was also in the hospital. Her back was had started to hurt and she was in a lot of pain. She has hurt her back and bruised her heart from when she was clinging to her children her breastbone went into her heart. She is ok and out of the hospital. My niece Kailyn is currently in ICU with a hole in her lung.
She is stable at this time. Doug was able to find one of her guinea pigs, but there are still more missing along her her pet rats. I can not thank everyone enough for their thoughts and prayers during this tragic time. My mom leave tomorrow morning to go there.

Oh and I just checked SAGP's site, over $3500.00 has been donated to SAGP via pay pal, that is not counting personal cheques mailed or money people have send to Marsha's Paypal.

I found out about it yesterday and was quite gutted. Even without knowing her personally, I can't help but feel some sort of attachment. I cannot imagine what Marsha has and is going through. I am grateful that the human Weaver family has made it out alive and feel so saddened to hear of her daughter's injuries and loss of little fury lives. It's just terrible. I've been hugging my piggies lots today... Keeping them in my thoughts...

For rebuilding a life that doesn't seem like much money, but I think the fact that that many people, even just forum or facebook friends, care enough to help has to be uplifting for the Weavers. I just have my fingers crossed that the humans will be okay, and at least some of the furries will be found alive. The death toll is now over 300, with the majority in Alabama

Marsha's Sister has sent an update:
I can finally update GOOD NEWS!!!! Kailyn is totally off oxygen and breathing on her own. I finally got to talk to Marsha for a few minutes before the signal went down, but wasn't able to ask her much more other then if she needed a car charger for their phones before my mom headed down there this morning.
SAGP donation update:
$5,608.00 raised so far, excluding donations made to Marsha's personal PayPal, and checks not yet received.

A member on GL posted this just minutes ago:
In other news, I have been texting with Marsha today. (!!!!)
She is so worried about her furkids and is going to try and look for them today. She said it is utter destruction there and they could not get within a mile of the "house" without walking it. They are hoping today will be better.
The pig they found is Emma. SHE IS ALIVE AND WELL!!! Just very scared. They actually found her between the storms under some debris. There was no time to look for others as the 2nd, big one was approaching.
Still trying to make a plan to get over there but it's such chaos there. Power lines and poles all over the place. Debris still litters the roads. I would be willing to walk several miles to get to the site but I don't want to bug her. So I put the offer out there and we'll see what she says later today after she tries to get out and look.

Hugs, Erin. You're doing all you can. I am just so happy Emma made it, and Marsha will be able to have at least one of her lovies with her. I've seen the pics on TV, and can't even imagine how hard it is to get in there and do anything.

Here is the lastest and greatest news:
Marsha has found all but one of the pigs and found 6 rats!
Now, with good news there is a little bad news. Of the remaining pigs she found today only 3 were survivors. So that makes 4 pigs found alive (this includes Emma).
Of the rats found, 2 had passed and one needs vet care. The other 3 are ok.
She had I think 13 ratties, 2 hamsters and 9 guinea pigs.
She plans on going back tomorrow and looking for more.

What a horrible situation. Have seen some of the news about the storms and looks horrific. Good to hear her daughter is recovering and so much good news about the animals in her care.
Erin what we ask is that people don't post requesting money for themselves - so for their own fundraisers, needing money to pay their own vet bills etc. We do allow posts highlighting registered charities or rescues.

I have been following this on facebook and I was so happy when I read that 4 of the piggies are alive. Also how wonderful that so many people are helping by donating. Piggy people are such gentle, generous souls I know it is an awful situation but I am trying to focus on the positive, that 4 piggies survived seems to me something of a miracle.

I couldn't believe so many survived and were found, even if one ratty needed vet care. That was such great news. I hope she finds her hammies alive. Looking at the pics of the devastation, it's hard to imagine any living thing surviving, but they do!!!

I am so very sorry and feel utterly helpless. Paul saw it on the news and apparently road signs were found three hundred miles from where they should have been, it was a demon!!
The thing that always worries me if our home was destroyed for any reason, is the animals, I don't care about the posessions but to loose my little ones well, it doesn't bear thinking about.
I feel to lame just sendings lots of love and so wish there was more I could do.
Hugs and loves sand everything else.
Jo xx

Another Rat has been found Here is what Marsha's Sister wrote on GL today: There has been many storms that have gone through where Marsha lives none have ever given much more then wind and rain damage. There was no way to take cover honestly. The storm was flying through so fast that there was no way to gather anyone up and no where to go. Homes in the south where she lives are on cement slabs. Marsha was in the hallway with her children and the dog Doug came running in yelling it is coming. They huddled together Marsha clinging to her children arm through shelbys collar and Doug clinging to all of them. Honestly it is a trueing a miracle that I didn't have to write about loosing one of them. The walls where ripped from around them and they went up with their home. While Marsha would have loved to pack up her pigs and rats to ensure their safety she had to worry about her children first and Shelby being a big dog and having a collar on was easy for Marsha to hang onto without crushing her. The more weight that was in their "clump" the better. Honestly I think the death rate for the pigs and rats would have been higher if Marsha added them to their "clump" being as they might have been crushed. Shelby's face was ripped from above her eye down to her jaw having 4 layers of stitches to fix the damage. Shelby still has her eye (which if she looses it, it won't be a big deal as she has the onset of cateracts), but she is not on any meds right now as I believe the vet that she went to didn't have enough. Shelby's surgery was done by flashlight so it is a miracle she is still with us. Yes they where....after they went to a neighbors basement. They had to run barefoot to the truck. From the sounds of it the man was standing in the back of his truck yelling trying to get people to safety. I have been holding back writing the details, but really felt it needed to be shared. So that gives you and idea of what happened. Poor Marsha and her family. I know I have not stopped posting, and reading since it happened.

I can hardly wrap my head around how many people's lives were completely devastated by those storms. Just this one story out of thousands is so unbelievable, and I am beyond myself with joy that Marsha and her children are okay, and also truly delighted to hear so many of her furrbabies also survived such an intense disaster. My heart and prayers are with her, her family, and all the other people affected by this tragedy. Please keep updating us! These little bits of good news are slowly but surely securing my faith in humanity

Update on the Weaver Family Pets from her sister:
Alive:
Guinea Pigs - Holly, Emma, Allie-Belle and Jasmine
Ratties - LuLu, Samantha, Makayla, Oliva & Wesley(but w/ his age he is very puffed up from the trauma & on oxygen&fluids)
Ratties now with angel wings-Annie ,Devon (who was found a ways from their home in the road),Victoria,Sabrina or Cassandra
Guinea Pigs with angel wings-Hopkins (PTS due to bad injuries),Natasha,Maggie or Laci
Missing-Claire,Sabrina or Cassandra(rats); Maggie or Laci (pigs)
All 5 of the babies (the martins cage is no where to be found)
They did put out carriers with fleece and food in hopes they would head to the carrier as a familiar thing , eat , and then snuggle into the fleece.
All of Marsha’s animals are now with her vet office. Marsha's vet and her vets husband helped them all day. The ones that are alive she is treating to ensure they get healthy to the best of her power. The ones with wings she will keep at the clinic until Marsha gets a place of her own again.
The people in her area are being wonderful and tonight a local church opened their doors so that everyone could take a warm shower.
Shelby has a bad infection in her foot and they are doing a head x-ray on her tomorrow. They now have her on pain meds and heavier antibiotics.
The bodies that we are unsure of is because people are finding them, wrapping them up, and telling Marsha what they looked like so that she isn't having to see them in that state. Annie was found by Marsha though which was very difficult for her.
