Well. The time has come. I need to trim the piggy nails.
I feel so ashamed to say this. I am not aware of how to do this....could y'all explain please? Any ideas to keep the nails down?
Thanks!

My method is driven as much by my lousy eyesite as anything. I put a waterproof cushion on my desk to pad their bums, seat them with their backs against me, my left arm around the pig and holding whichever foot/hand is being done. I am right handed, so I use regular nail clippers and clip with my right hand. It works for me.
I've heard of people wrapping their pigs in towels, but I never had much luck with that as one of my hands is rather arthritic. Lots of people have had that work for them, as it seems to calm the pig.
I use regular spring clippers. I know some people use cuticle scissors, cat nail clippers and whatever works for them.
Good luck!!!

Thanks y'all! My vet has a friend who has pigs...and his friend uses a paver stone thing...and he rubs the nail on the stong a couple of times...like a nail file.
Would this work? My vets friend puts food on the stone so it encourages them to come on it.
Thanks!

the paver stone theory makes sence to me. I read about it on a few websites. It one I think I'm going to try.

Paver stones in the cage will help keep nails shorter, but you'll still have to give them a regular trim from time to time. Three of my pigs do just fine on my lap, with plenty of veggies to munch on as a distraction. My skittish girl has to be wrapped up tight in a towel or blanket. It takes a bit of practice to figure out what works for you, but you'll figure it out. You'll probably get plenty of dramatic wheeks, but just keep going.

It is as much a matter of practice as anything else. Just cut as many nails as you can in one go; don't feel like you have to do them a ll at once. Most piggies get eventually used to the procedure, but there always are the determined wigglers and the drama queens!

Alright. Thanks! I'm going to the pet store today to get some bedding. I'll pick up some cutters. I'm also going to the hardware store...so I'll pick up a paver stone.
