Hello everyone, I am a new piggy owner and have 2 baby piggys that will be 6 weeks old on 11th May. I have never had guinea pigs before so although i did lots of reading beforehand, every aspect is a steep learning curve!
The piggys have only been with me for 3 days, I am trying to get them used to me and the family by putting them in their pen every day either indoor or outside depending on the weather!
I've also done cuddle time and trying to encourage them to feed out of my hand which they have been doing.
I hope i'm doing things correctly and any tips or advice to gain their trust would be greatly appreciated. They are very nervous at the moment!
Thanks

Hi and welcome to the forum!
It is great that you have been reading up and preparing for your piggies.
Guinea pigs are prey animals, so make sure that there is some shelter in each run from which they can start to explore their new surroundings. Give them time to settle.
Personally, I would not put them outdoors yet until they have got their bearings with their indoors living style, which can take a few days or weeks; I would even leave out the indoors run until they have got the hand of their cage. You will know when they start popcorning and running around like mad that they are happy with where they are and that you can go onto the next stage.
Otherwise, keep to a firm routine and create daily rituals for food, cuddle time etc. using the same words in the same tone, so they can learn to anticipate what is coming.
You will find that pick up time can be a wild. If one of the piggies has problems with being picked up (it cuts very close to their prey animal instinct), you can try shooing them into a padded shoebox with one short end cut off and a treat at the other end. But give them a day to befriend the box and become relaxed around it first and even have a little nap in it!

Welcome to the forum piggyparent! . It sounds like you've prepared yourself well, but some things (properly picking up piggies, cutting their nails, checking them for lumps and bumps, etc!) just take time and practice! Everything yodelpig said (as usual!) is great and helpful advice, and be sure to lurk around the threads here for great tips! We can't wait to get to know you and your piggies better! Be sure to post pictures if you get a chance, we loveeee our piggy pictures

Welcome welcome welcome! ;D So far so good on your techniques for getting them used to you. For my pigs, the ultimate trick was to give them carrots. They love them so much that they forgot about being afraid and started chomping. ;D
