My girls Two weeks ago sweet little Zuul got chomped on the face by Max... She went to the doggy ER and had to stay over night. She received a cut on the outside of her face just below her eye, a puncture hole in her lip, a 2 inch gash on the inside of her mouth, but if that wasn't enough Max also punctured the bone to her nasal cavity. I was two feet from Max, he was sleeping on the kitchen floor and Zuul walked past him and he attacked. It was not pretty. I dont know why Max snapped. ouchie baby! She is all healed up, and other than the scars she looks good as new.

She does look good, healing well. Poor baby! What did you do about Max? Is the back yard at the new house better or the zoo?

I have NEVER wanted to hurt or had any negative feelings towards any animal in my entire life until I saw my puppy in the jaws of another dog. I yelled at him to "release" and "leave it" and I was about 2 seconds from kicking him with all my might (he is 70 lbs) when he obeyed my orders. I was prepared to get in the middle and be bit myself, luckily it didn't come down to that. Max cowered and put his head down and refused to move when I yelled at him to get out! Zuul ran to her room (her crate) and cried the most awful sounds an animal could ever make. I drug Max by the collar to the sun room, he was banished. I told him to sit on a rug and not to move a paw off it. I don't know if he meant to do so much damage, but regardless it was unprovoked. The Vet gave Max doggy Prozac - I purchased a muzzle for him the next day and he had to wear it for a week any time Zuul was around. Zuul did not want to be around Max the first few days, then Max started (through the muzzle) to lick Zuul's wounds - I think that was a doggy apology. I lost a lot of confidence with Max - and he has slowly been earning back my trust. I think he has been stressed with the move, Dan (his dad) being gone a lot, and jealous he needs to share playtime with Indy. Max gets his share of puppy play with Zuul, but she prefers to play with Indy - She is the lucky dog that gets chewed on daily...it's not nice to treat your elders like that! - lol With 3200 square feet to choose from; really? The Buns have a new temp-spot set up in the yard. I'm not sure they will stay there, Spunky has been trying to dig under the fence!!!! The plastic fencing is a poor choice to keep annoying puppies out - Zuul gets in and play with the Buns, then whines because she can't get out, so you let her out, then she goes right back in. The cats have not made it to the new house yet. Sadly Suchimu may not make it at all. Some days her back legs won't work, other days she seems fine. She is happy to just lie there and purr when you pet her. My mom has been taking care of them and the doves, fish still at my old house.

Is that Zuul? Man, she got big! How big will she be when she's all growed up? That fight must have been really scary. I hope Max has learned he can't be so rough! Anyway, she'll be bigger than him in a couple of weeks by the looks of her so she'll be able to get her own back

I think Zuul is a little on the small side, but growing well - getting hard to carry her like a baby. Her mom was 90 and dad 100...eeeeek! She is about 3 months old...and a real sweetie, a little shy at first, and no doubt about it - a momma's girl.

Jeannine, I completely missed Zuul's arrival. She is gorgeous. Where does her name come from?
I read the trouble you had with Max. How are things now?
I may be meeting a 6 month old red setter pup this weekend. He's doing fine at the foster home with other dogs and he's going to be near my house for a doggy fun day so the foster said she'd bring him over to let me meet him and see how he gets on with my two. I'd love another setter but I'm worried about the finances for 3 dogs (it's the extra insurance, vaccines and if we go away kennel fees). I'm also concerned about how my existing two would react to another dog. The fact he's so young, I think, would be helpful. Molly's the doggy boss and Mac tends to follow her lead so may depend on how she reacts.

Awww, Zuul is looking good!!! Growing into the feet!
Lesa, hope the meeting goes well. I know what you mean about the extra expense. You won't go through that much more food, but an illness or boarding could be really expensive!

I self vaccinate, and only about every three years...I'll probably do less with Zuul (studies about dog vaccinations not needed yearly). You can purchase vaccinations for dogs online they cost about $3...the vets charge 20-30 for the same shot!!! I do get rabies as required (3 years), but the city has a program that only charges $5 a shot. Oh I know all about the Vet bills - Max's chomp cost over $700 to patch up Zuul (she is now my most expensive dog).
I was iffy on Mu & Indy's reaction to a puppy - as they are both senior citizens, and females...but as it turned out Max the 6-year old male was the problem child!!!
It really depends on the dogs personality - Zuul is in crazy puppy mode and wants to play a lot, she has a few mellow moments - that's when she is tolerated by Mushka - lol. First off Mu thinks she is a person, or at least a cat - and the dogs are beneath her. She is the least playful/bothered by Zuul. They will run and chase each-other in the yard, but only if Mu starts. Zuul knows she cant act crazy with Mu, but she can snuggle and sleep with her. Indy is Zuul's dog of choice - Indy puts up with all the puppy teeth, they play and have all sorts of fun; together they have destroyed 5 toys in 3 days. Every now and then I need to give Zuul a time out, I feel bad for Indy. Things are much better with Max, he turns his head when 'attacked' by Zuul - she likes to chew on his fluffy fur. He just stands there when she jumps all over him, but her 'attack' is short lived, she'll run off to play with Indy.
Puppy behavior is not the same as young dog behavior; All dogs play differently - Indy and Mu play/interact different then Indy and Max - the dogs all will learn their places and each others limits.
The name Zuul came from the movie Ghostbusters. It is the name one of the "Terror Dogs".
There is no Dana, only Zuul!

That's so funny Jeannine, because when we first got Mac I kept saying he looked just like the dog that Zuul becomes - it's his bull shaped head and little ears.
Thanks for letting me know your experience. Turns out we won't be meeting the pup now as the rescue have already vetted and booked a home, we were too late. Just wasn't meant to be.

Dogs definitely have as many personalities as we do, and many different levels of tolerance for youngsters. Glad they seem to have worked out their differences.
