Well, Bazz isn't old hehe, only 2... but Dad suggested getting him neutered so he could have a female friend to live with. I recently moved him out of Gimpie's cage (because Gimpie had a fair few injuries) and into a cubes cage with a built in roof - it goes inside the outdoor run at night - and he's all by himself! Even though he adores it, maybe it's time to look at getting him done so he can spend the rest of his days with Phoebe.
Anyways, still on the deciding stage.. I'd have to save some money but I think it's a good idea!

I'm sure he'd love a lady friend ;D I'm trying to decide whether to save up to get Elvis neutered as well so that he can live with Ripple or Helga, because he refuses to get on with the other boys - but it's risky, obviously...I'm no help lol

As you know aL, my boys were neutered, mainly for Squeekie's sake as he wasn't happy living with Jake and it got to the stage of him always having to be on his guard. Then they had a major fight where Squeekie ended up with a sore nose. Anyway, even though it was a very hard decision and I found out as much information as I could, I know it was the best thing for Squeekie's future happiness. Jake to, as both boys love living with my girls. Squeekie spends most of his time rumbling, Peachy and Clover can't move without him starting lol. You might have already read my page aL, but there's also a few links at the bottom. jackiesguineapiggies.com/neutering.htmlI love your boy piggies name Izzy ;D

I'm sure you'll make the right decision Al. Its a tough one when they won't get on with other boys. I would neuter myself but mainly because I wouldn't want to split up boys that get on well already just to get a girlfriend, or upset the pair I do have with smells of girls. But when it doesn't work out I can see why people do it. Bet it is a lovely life for the boar to live with a lady! As long as you have a good vet I'm sure it will be fine... and you will be clued up on it all no doubt. Just to say remember to keep him on towels or vetbed post op to stop him opening his wound on bedding, or getting anything in them. It also makes it easier to spot if there is a problem. Good luck... and can't wait to hear all about how he gets on with Pheobe!

Your so right Susie, If my boys had got along together, I would have left them together.
If you are thinking about it aL, a good idea is to ask your vet how many neuterings he has done. My vet had done 25 plus, so he was experienced.
He was really great and even explained exactly what he was going to do, luckily the boys were out of ear shot. I wish I'd had a tape recorder though so I can remember everything he said, as it was interesting.

I think I'll go ahead with it. I'm not comfortable having Bazz by himself indefinately, and Gimps can find a new friend eventually. I just feel that Bazz will be happier with his female companions, versus by himself.
I've made a few phone calls, and my Vet has done quite a few - over 20 - and has a 99% success rate. He charges a decent fee and my dad is willing to go halves with me. Plus, I am on holidays and can monitor him during the day so would be able to get it done over the next two weeks.

OK Al. Well have a chat with them like Jackie suggested and I'm sure it will ease your mind. Good luck & let us know how he gets on. Lucky you will be around to nurse him for a while!
