Sally is about 3 months old, she is a tri - color shorthaired cavy. She loves apples and dandilion, bell peppers and lots and lots of timothy hay. This is her poking out of her new grassy huthch which is very safe un like her old pigloo. I think it looks so natural. She really loves it. More pics soon!

She's really pretty ;D Ditto the question Susie asked - if so, would you consider getting her a friend?

Yeah she is an only pig, i have been thinking about getting her a friend but space is an issue. Like you JU Ju Monki, I only have a store brought cage, it is large enough for her to popcorn and run but I do not know about two guineas in there i 'd lve a second, maybe an abby!

Well really 1 piggy needs more or less the same space as 2 if they are going to be happy & have room to run about. How big is your cage? Its a very lonely life as an only pig. Nobody to talk to when the family is out at work or school & nobody who speaks your language when they are home. Have you both told your folks piggys are social animals & especially girls should not be kept all alone?

Yeah, I've told them... but her cage probably wouldn't be big enough for two, and we don't have enough room for another. But we're usually around ;D

Sally is soooo beautiful and so tiny! I remember when my girls were that small-poor Milano was already pregnant. She more than doubled her weight and was 151/2 inches around! She had 3 babies-one I had to euthanize because it had heart problems but the other two were fine. Still, it was awful that she was allowed to be impregnated at such an early age and I've said that I think it's been the cause of lots of her many health problems. DO get Sally GIRL friend, though. Think how sad you would be without YOUR friends or family.... tell your parents WE SAID SO here on WHEEKERS!

Thanks, Clover, and she was so beautiful. But I should have left well enough alone as Milano wouldn't touch it- she KNEW it wasn't right. So I peeled off it's membrane and rubbed it to life-I just couldn't let it gasp and die before my eyes. Even at 3 months Milano was a good mother and took great care of the two left, but she did know that baby was sick.

That it really sad Kitty but I think you did the right thing in helping the baby. You would have always wondered if you might have saved it otherwise. And i do know sometimes cavies don;t break the sak of a perfectly healthy baby if they are struggling & birthing in quick sucession. Just another reason I'm glad I don;t breed...( I know you don;t either- she was already preggy) all very scary especially if you don't know what you're doing. What happened to the 2? Do you still have them or did you rehome them?

I agree Susie, you did the right thing Kitty. I remember seeing a tv programme where they did that for some puppies. Its a very caring thing you tried to do for the baby piggy, I'm just so sorry the baby was too poorly to survive Fingers crossed you'll be able to get a bigger cage cavy13 in the future and if you have an area for piggies to have lots of safe free range time. Maybe you could do extra chores at home for your parents and that way you might be able to save up for a bigger cage Sally really is gorgeous

Milano's babies went to good homes, thank goodness. I now wish I had kept the little girl though, especially now that Milano has such awful health problems and her longevity is questionable. Thankfully she had no problem birthing them and all went well except for the little sick one. It was very special to watch but I'd NEVER do it on purpose.
