I know nothing about soccer, really, but my husband, 2 of my sons and 2 of my daughters and myself have gotten hooked on: www.hattrick.orgwhich is a worldwide online soccer management game. You start out with a team, coaches, money, a stadium, etc. and you are placed in a league and play a 14 game season, with a 2 week break, unless you need to play qualification matches. You can also challenge your friends' teams to a 'friendly' or non-official game mid week. You decide how to spend your money, how to train the team, etc. Even someone who knows nothing about soccer can have a blast!

Yes, Hattrick is free to play.
If you want to be a suscriber and have additional features--which are totally unneccessary--you can pay a $20 or so a year fee.

You've got nothing to lose, and it's literally a world-wide game. Occassionally I get to chat with people in other countries (like here!!) and it's neat. My family origins are in Norway, and I have gotten to 'meet' people near my dad's hometown.
It really is a fun game!!
