Tempura batter, is that the one which is made with cold fizzy water Piggles love? I remember hosting fondue parties, we always had steak with salad, it was yummy.

Fizzy water or beer, Jo. We didn't have it, as hubby stopped to do the food shopping, and came home with some fried chicken. We had broccoli, though I'm slowly getting rid of all the broccoli Temps are going to be high, 50s-60s for the next few days, so I'm going to make a bean salad, and add some broccoli to that. 1001 ways to use broccoli

I like certain veggies with certain things and I think broc goes well with beef. It does sound like salad weather coming along Piggles hunni, today it is cold and wet here in Liskeard. Soup today I think with crusty bread.

I started my morning by putting the remaining head of broccoli, all of the broccoli stems I had saved, a large onion, about 8 cloves of garlic, a couple of large carrots, some cabbage and celery, and some of the baby kale and spinach we bought for salads, into a stock pot. I'm making veggie stock, and it smells fabulous. I have the heat turned off, and will open a window later, if necessary. I also need to use the last eggplant, as it's starting to get soft. I will have hubby peel and slice the eggplant, and I will fry it tomorrow morning, and make the parmesan. That way I get some fried eggplant slices to eat while I'm making it Need to make the bean salad today, as I've freed up enough room to put it in the fridge. No place to put it yesterday, so no bean salad. Temps getting into the 50s and 60sF through Saturday, so I'll definitely be saving money on the heating bill.

That stock sounds wonderful Piggles love, do you freeze it in portions or use it straight away? Hope the bean salad goes well. Finishing of a chinese take away today.

I don't have space in the freezer to freeze the stock in portions, so I froze it all together for now. I hadn't expected it to be very good, as most store-bought veggie broths taste like soap. I need to find a way to divide it into portions, as I probably won't use it to make soup.
We had the bean salad last night, with the leftover fried chicken. Pasta salad today. Hubby is working from home tomorrow, so we may fry the eggplant then, although it's supposed to be hot and rainy. He pealed and sliced the eggplant, and put it in a baggies with lemon water, so it's fine if we don't use it until Sunday, when it's supposed to be much cooler.

Have you considered an ice cube contain Piggles love for individual portions of stock? Just a thought. I must have read about it somewhere or seen it on telly. I love egg plant frittered especially with a steak and potato meal. That reminds me, it is steak for me today.

We don't have any place to put an ice cube tray We have a built-in ice maker/water, in a side-by-side fridge with no space in the freezer. I wanted to the freezer-over fridge, but hubby wanted this one. Now we have a fridge with a deep, narrow fridge on one side, and a deep, narrow freezer on the other. I actually have trouble getting things out of the lower shelves, as I can't bend down and turn myself into a pretzel to see what's in the back of the shelves. We used to curse ice cube trays in the old days. Now I wouldn't mind having some of that back. We had a great, lite dinner of pasta salad with tuna, sliced naval oranges, and garlic bread. Nice to leave the table not feeling as if I have a rock in my stomach! Still tried to kill me, but everything I eat does, so nothing new Enjoy your steak, Jo

These bags are great for storing leftover bits of wine or sauce (as well as making ice cubes) and you don't have to have a particular space to keep anything upright, you can just squish them in a gap.

I have trouble getting into the bottom of the freezer too Piggles hunni, usually I ask Paul to do it for me. Tuna and pasta go beautifully together especially with melted cheese on top, it is one of my favourites. Those bags look really handy Bean love, that is the sort of thing I meant. I remember having an ice cube tray as a child and it was almost impossible to get one ice cube out. What a fiddly thing it was.

Those bags are really cool, and I would like to have juice and stock frozen in cubes. Those would be great! I'll look into them. Thanks for the link I bought two candy molds, some dark chocolate and some orange flavoring and watermelon flavoring. I also bought some root beer flavoring, as it was on deep discount. I have the flavorings here, but this is a different brand, so it might not taste the same. I posted about it on Facebook, and my daughter posted back "You are going to share, right " I told her I would share if she came to my house and brought granddaughter with her She said she would. We'll see. Having cold salads and some pork ribs hubby is going to grill outside, for dinner. I was going to try making some candy, but hubby took everything out from under the kitchen sink, to install a water filter, found a pipe leaking, and has taken over the kitchen. Maybe later

What sort of candy are you going to make Piggles love? I have tried on many an occasion to make fudge but it has always been a total disaster. I either take it off the heat too soon or leave it on for too long. It is difficult to get right. Pork ribs sound lovely. Steak for me today.

Jo, I don't know what types of fudge you've tried to make, but there are some fabulously easy ones. If you don't have a microwave, just use a double boiler. You can put a bowl over a sauce pan if water to melt the ingredients, if you don't have a double boiler. Try this one: allrecipes.com/recipe/9368/fudge/ I have others that are really simple, too. Fudge is my fallback sweet when I don't have time to make other things, the recipes I use are so easy. Hubby is installing the water filter under the kitchen sink, so I can't use the kitchen to make candy right now. When he's done, I will melt some dark chocolate, add some flavoring, pour it into molds and put it in the fridge. Once the chocolate sets up, just pop the flavored chocolates out of the mold, and eat I have silicone molds, which used to only be for hard candy, so I'll see how it goes with chocolate. Chocolate molds were hard plastic when I had my business, and those still exist, just not at a local store. That may also have changed. If not. I'll still have some good, flavored choccies to eat There are silicone molds for lollipops, too. Those have a place to pour in the hard candy, and a place for a lollipop stick. Again, just melt the sugar mix, flavor it, pour it in the mold, add the stick and let it set. Once it hardens, just pop the lollipops out of the molds. It's not hard. Painting the designs in the candy molds was incredibly time consuming, and took a lot of patience and eye strain, but the process of making the chocolates is not hard.

Thank you for that Piggles love, I have bookmarked that recipe. I do have a microwave so that is a great alternative. Good luck with the choccies and for keeping me posted, you know what is close to my heart LOL!!

I made my first batch of chocolates. I only have two molds right now, a heart mold and a dove mold. Orange flavored dark chocolate. Even Hubby liked them enough to want to eat them, and he's not a chocolates lover: Hubby said all of my molds are in the storage space under the house, so he'll try to remember to get them out for me, this weekend

Lovely - let us know how long they last!
We enjoyed our pancakes last night. I didn't have many as they can leave me feeling a bit pogged, but the others hoovered them up with ridiculous quantities of sugary and fatty fillings!

They are all gone, but Hubby is motivated to get the molds out from under the house, so I'll be making more, soon. He has to get under the house to turn off the water, so he can finish repairing the cold water hose, so hopefully he'll get the molds out then. I have a bit of orange chocolate left. I'll heat it up and make dots on wax paper. Tastes just as good, even if it's not molded I did find a recipe for making the cream centers, which I have in my phone recipe file. I have a book on candy making, but I have no idea where it is. If I have any of the flower molds that are still good, I'll make some painted ones, so you can see what they were like.

Oh Piggles hun, they look gorgeous even though I prefer milk chocolate. I just wanted to reach out and grab one LOL! Their shape is gorgeous too and will appeal to most people. I am so glad you are planning to make more hun and I love the idea of creamy centres, this is very exciting?! I am not surprised that they didn't last long and thanks for lovely piccy.
Yes Bean lovey, pancakes do that to you which is why I only had two. As said in a previous post they are past their best now despite being in a protective bag, I think they have to be eaten fairly quickly whilst they are fresh.m It is a shame because I hate waste and am a little annoyed with Paul for not having at least a couple.

Jo, put the pancakes on a damp paper towel or clean cloth. The moisture in the towel rehydrates even the most stale bread. You have to eat them as soon as they come out of the microwave, though, or they just go stale again. My drinking the smoothy in the morning, and having my cottage cheese with cranberries, pineapple and fiber seems to be working. My jeans are looser than they used to be. For some weird reason, as all of my jeans are the same size, the black ones are the tightest, the tan ones are medium, and the blue jeans are the loosest. I'm wearing a pair of tan jeans that would normally have needed a bit of sucking in the old gut, but didn't need it this time. I wasn't trying to lose weight, but since I'm taking in a lot of fiber, nothing stays with my for very long. I should have a very happy colon The nice things about it are that I like what I'm having for breakfast and lunch, and I can eat them year round. As weight loss, I still have a really, really long way to go.

Thank you for that Piggles love, believe me I did eat them as soon as they came out of the microwave and they were delicious. I am glad you are losing weight too and everything is starting to feel loose. That is how I find out about my weight by the way my clothes fit and not always using scales. I am glad you are enjoying it too, very often with diet food, in my case anyway, I would rather go without than eat some of the things suggested. Hugs Jo xx
