I finally splurged and bought some Cadbury Cream Eggs, then put them in the fridge and forgot about them. Ate them last month, finally, to get them out of the fridge! I do love chocolate, but find I can't take it in much quantity anymore. That means I'd rather eat a little very good chocolate, than a lot of average chocolate.
Ooh, reminds me to put cheese on my shopping list! I buy the Baby Bel cheese for hub for his work lunches and snacks, as they are individual servings, all wrapped!

No cheese is safe in my fridge! Same in my house!

I too love creams, we had a tin of Roses and there are lovely strawberry and orange creams in them. We also had a small box of violet creams and they were yum yum. I wish I were like you monkeyandthechimp love, I adore chocolate. Haven't bought any cream eggs yet but it won't be long.

I'm too stingy to put the heating on during the day if I can help it so today I'm keeping warm by cooking. So far I've made a sausage, bean and curly kale pasta bake, some chocolate granola and a pot of cauliflower cheese. Wondering what I can do next!

Nothing heats the house like a pot of soup simmering on the stove! I did that yesterday, and I think I made my best batch ever! I added parsnips, which put a sweetness in that wasn't there before. I also added three sprigs of Rosemary, which really added some flavor. How about baking some bread? I'm going to do that in a bit. Hub gets upset that I make the great smelling stuff when he's at work, so I have to get some aromas going in the house on the weekends!

Oooh homemade soup - good idea!
What's granola though? I've heard Americans say it before, but not a Brit!

Granola is basically muesli; but with a bit of syrup stuff and oil mixed in and then baked so it forms little clusters. Had a job not eating it whilst it was cooling down! I haven't made it before and haven't yet tried it properly with milk so I'll reserve judgement, but I'm expecting it to be good

Starting with the basic muesli, you can add bits of dried fruits, coconut, nut meats and anything else, even M&Ms or chocolate chips. You can make them so they are crunchy or chewy, dip them in candy coatings, etc. I use Kashi Go Lean cereal, and just eat it out of the box. Hub mixes his with yogurt. I drink a glass of milk with it, so I get the calcium. Joys of growing older. Have to make sure I eat and drink enough good stuff!
I was going to make it into bars for him, and bought marshmallows to melt to make the equivalent of Rice Krispie treats. Never got that far!
Making another loaf of bread this afternoon, and will will finish the soup for dinner tonight. The house should smell pretty fabulous!

You can't beat home made soup, I love soup anyway but home made is best.

Two of my favorites, soup and pasta sauce, simmering in a big pot on the stove. I love to tipple in it off and on, and it just seems to warm a cold, wintry day!

Verdict on the granola now I've tried it properly - very tasty However, there are bits in it that are verging on teeth-crackingly crunchy. Not sure which bits they are and what I haven't got quite right to make them like that! Further investigation required...

Hope your teeth can cope - I'm already looking at one root canal this year so I'm keeping away from anything that's hard on the old gnashers!
Thanks for the soup idea 3pigggles - I rustled some up yesterday after we got in from sledging (vegetable and lentil) and it warmed us through a treat!

We just had the dinners worth of the soup. There's a lunch worth left. Probably should have waited until tomorrow to eat it, as it's supposed to get bitterly cold. Hub said he would just have to keep himself fortified with meatballs and pasta sauce!

I love meatballs ad pasta sauce 3piggles love, it is a dish I do sometimes. Of course it is cold here at the moment so this sort of meal is great.

Went to the Tuscan Market in Salem, NH. Wow! It is really expensive, but has a little of everything imaginable. There are packaged foods, a bakery, deli, butcher shop, gelato area, wines, fizzy drinks, cheeses, crackers, everything imaginable.
We bought a small applewood and wine salami, an artisan bread, a bottle of lemon flavored dipping olive oil and a small bottle of olives. We are watching the 24 Hours of Daytona race, and eating our treats. Great place to visit, but only for special occassions. Way too expensive to do regularly.
there is also a Tuscan Kitchen restaurant in the same parking lot, with sit down dining, not the 'buy it and find a table' eating at the market. I will check if we can make reservations, just because it's far enough away to not want have a really long wait. My legs and back won't stand around, especially in the cold, for very long.
It was a great outing. I definitely want to go back!

Sounds great, I love places like that for occasional treats! I'll be making a giant butterfly bun today - my daughter's requested it as her birthday cake (well, her second cake - I made a chocolate cake for her party with her friends yesterday). Found this one online www.pimpthatsnack.com/project/340/ but think I will just make it in an ordinary cake tin and then make a buncase-like frill to go round it after - don't think I have the patience to make a giant buncase like those people, and mine would definitely collapse round the edges!

Okay, you had me up until '1 humongous bun case' and I totally lost it. What is a bun case, and hubs and my minds went to all kinds or weird places! Otherwise, the recipe sounds really good! Please post a photo when it's done!

Well, a bun is what you'd call a cupcake (not a buttock!) - so just the cases you bake them in. It's blooming awful anyway - the giant butterfly bun went okay but then I decided to pretty up the butterfly with some icing and sprinkles and it looks like a 2 year-old's attacked it! I think my daughter will still be happy with it but my family are going to laugh at me... I'm just not artistic, I don't know why I keep trying?!

I adore cup cake and sometimes bake my own. I too use buttercream and cut the tops in half so they look like butterflies. Wonderful for the taste buds but hell for the waist line LOL!!

Well, the cake tasted nice even if it wasn't a work of art (my daughter liked it, so phew, got away with it!). Only one more cake to make for another birthday celebration with the in-laws visiting this weekend - I'm out of ideas now, might buy the next one?!
EDIT: Oh and to anyone who encouraged me to buy a dishwasher earlier in the year....? Thank you.
