Hello October. September was...I can't remember. Not much of it, anyway. I think it was generally rubbish.
Over here, summer is coming. I am not happy about this...I dislike the heat. I suppose it's better than having your house swept away though, if you have heaps of pets!

Ah, is there anyone in the world who's totally happy with the weather they get?!
September for me was a month (one of two) of living in constant chaos and mess because some work we were having sone on the house went on waaaay too long. So I am looking forward to an October where I won't constantly be tripping over displaced belongings and tools, or organising my days around being in for workmen (who may or may not show up).
Anaira, thanks for starting the thread - 2 (negative) karma coming up!

And bathing regularly again, right?!
Hey, I love the weather! I love any weather. I'm just that kind of guy.

Not a heat person, either, so totally feel for you facing the relentless summer. We were lucky to only have one, short heat wave this summer. Still, it's nice to not have to run the a/c just to be able to do things in the house and get some decent sleep.
September was busy for me, so kind of glad that's about done. We have more house remodeling projects coming, but it will be nice to do more on our schedule than on someone else's.
Still refusing to turn on the heat, though we've had a few really cold mornings. Just add a few blankets or layers of clothing!

We are thinking of putting the heating on low, it is getting very chilly here in Cornwall.

Ours started clicking on a couple of weeks ago and we didn't argue with it! Makes getting up in the morning that bit easier!

We're at the cold one day, hot the next. Still just opening and closing windows, but it won't be long before we need the heat.
We got a whole lot of work done to seal up the house against drafts and heat loss. Have to wait for the bitter cold, blustery days to test it, but hoping it works.

I'm still holding out with the heating! Seeing how long I can last. Beautiful day today - clear blue sky, bright sunshine and just a bit chilly. My favourite sort of day My mum's just had new heating and a new shower put in so I'm going to check it out. Currently waiting for my chocolate and banana cake to cook - it was her birthday this week so there must be cake.

That cake sounds gorgeous love!!! Isn't it a pity that a piece can't be sent via email? I know, you would have non left LOL!!
Isn't leccy expensive? It seems no matter who you are with, the meter spins itself off the wall.

Ooh, cake sounds fabulous!!! Happy Birthday, Roz's mom!
We got our house sealed up against leaks, and definitely felt it in the back basement room when we were cleaning in there this morning. First time in 6 years we stuck a small fan in the corner to move the air round.
It also finally stopped raining long enough to deadhead all the flowers on the porch, and to warm up to almost 80F. So windows open and fans running. I noticed no zoomies in Pigloo City yesterday, until evening when it really cooled down. Then they tore up the town!!
The only other thing we've considered is having our neighbor convert our wood burning fireplace to a gas fireplace. Because we have a fireplace, we only need the gas run over and installed, and one of those fake logs things to look like a fire. It will be much cleaner. We rarely use the fireplace except for power outages, because it overheats one end of the room, pulls all the heat out of the rest of the house, leaves a huge mess, and being in a condo, we have to buy the wood in those bundles for about $6 each. One bundle only burns for about an hour, so that is pricey!
We figure with the gas, we can have a limited fire going just to take of the chill, if we want, or use it to heat the room in a power failure. Get rid of all the containers of wood and starter paper, etc., and just clean up a bit!

Chocolate and banana cake? Sounds lovely, please post the recipe (provided it didn't turn out badly!).
Laurie, it sounds like a gas fire will be a lot more convenient for you!

Gave in and turned on the heat for a bit this morning. It was 63F in the house. Not exactly an invitation to get out of a warm bed and take a shower! Only ran it long enough to take off the chill, but still. We still have Indian Summer as our last warm gasp, but have to have a killing frost before we get that!

I still can't believe this news story from last week - a blind man using a white stick was tasered by a police officer who thought his stick was a samurai sword? www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2012/oct/17/police-taser-blind-man-stickAs much as I hate the whole compensation culture, I can't say I'm surprised he's putting in a claim.

I like how they actually did end up finding the bloke with the samurai sword in the end!
Tasers scare me. They seem so easily discharged with minimal consequence for their use. They're lucky that guy didn't end up having another stroke...

I like how they actually did end up finding the bloke with the samurai sword in the end! It's just all very embarrassing.... I bet that police officer (should he remain in post - if this was a reflection of his judgement skills then perhaps it's not the best career choice?) will bear the brunt of some pretty serious ribbing from his colleagues for years to come. "Watch out! There's a man with a BOMB! Ah wait.... it's just an orange..."

Another reason why guide dogs are so much better than sticks.
October's nearly over, guess it's time I did my monthly post! Hey, guess what? Yeah. Household has increased. My sister has a puppy, and I have another rabbit; someone from up the road stopped me in the street and asked if I wanted him. I went around and saw him, and....yeah, understand that they were moving, and cage cleaning might not be your highest priority...but neither did he have any food or water. On the other hand, Rosie and Cody are both looking really old. I don't think they have much longer. ): Alfie managed to lose his top teeth somehow, but they've grown back; Bronte has something wrong with her, no one's quite certain what; she has a build up of blood around her genital area, and the vet isn't certain what's causing it. We might go for exploitative surgery, yet. Oh, and the neighbour cats decided to move in, so I had them speyed recently. I guess that means we have seven cats, now. :S
Actually, I don't believe I posted a memorial here about our old cat Chucky. He was pts with suspected bone cancer, just a few months short of his 18th birthday, near the end of May.
You know, this has turned into a long post. Maybe I should go get the actual piggie and other pet threads, and update those lol. Only I can't be bothered. I think that's all, anyway...I might upload pictures of baby dog and rabbit eventually. Maybe. After I finish this 4000 word report I'm procrastinating, perhaps.

Ooh, and pics of new cats too please Hope all my Wheekers friends in the eastern US will be OK with the nasty storm. We think we get rubbish weather here in the UK but that's something else!
