Well...I somehow managed to go out to work this morning and come home with a little rescued Syrian hamster and a brand new home for her, who is now settling down in my bedroom and has been very aptly named "Chaos" lol. And also managed to pretty much flame down a pet food and accessories store at the same time....day well spent I think lol.
Lewis (an extremely good friend of mine and also my manager at work) and I went in there to get some gerbil food for the gerbil girls. As it just said pet food and accessories superstore, I wasn't expecting to see actual animals in there for sale. But we did, and as we were looking at them, Lewis noticed that the rats had no food whatsoever in their tank...which was far too small and had no levels or anything...which was a shame as the tank itself was large enough heightwise for a couple of shelves...but never mind. Lewis said to the shop person that the rats had no food...and the person said OK and left it at that.
We went out of the shop after buying the gerbil food and went to go and get bed throw from the shop next door. Twenty minutes later, Lewis and I then went back into the pet store again to see if anything had been done. Nope...and not only that, the baby rats were fighting for whatever scraps they could get...and there was a little hamster "Chaos" in another tank, who had a small cut on her neck.
Lewis immediately asked for the head office number and they phoned him back today and said they would do a check there this afternoon.
By this time, I was really worried about the little hamster and after a little pleading with my parents and Lewis, we went back there and asked for her. We were then both shocked at the way they handled "Chaos" and shoved her in the box. Thankfully we were there when the guy from head office was there and he had seen what had happened...and as Lewis and I left, we heard the guy turn round and say to the woman who had 'served' (and I use the term lightly) us "I do not want to see hamsters or any other animal in here again" or something along those lines...and Lewis and I just cracked up laughing on the way out and we took Chaos home.
She is absolutely adorable and definitely living up to her name at the moment. She's a very pale cream and white hamster and only 8 weeks old.
I will get some photos on here as soon as I can, but leaving her to settle tonight so she can get used to things.
