My deepest condolences to the people injured and killed in the bombing in Boston, today. Why someone felt it was right to turn a happy, international sporting event into a war zone, I will never understand. I lived a block away. That was my old stomping ground. The violence has come home, now, and it's not a good feeling. There should be celebration across Boston, tonight, but Boston is basically closed. People won the three marathon divisions; wheelchair/men's/women's. They should be remembered. The interviews with them should be the big marathon news. That's not happening. That is just wrong. My congratulations to those winners, and to all the runners who crossed that finish line.

Oh it's awful isn't it - there's no sense in these things and so many people gathered for a happy, positive event have had their lives ended, changed forever or turned upside-down. Whoever can think they are making any kind of a valid point by doing terrible things like this...
The London Marathon takes place this weekend - security is being reviewed.

Oh it just makes me sick! Had a bit of a teary... I seem to be over sensitive to things like this. It's so pointless and wasteful! I had an odd experience this morning! I sat bolt up awoken out of nightmares this morning. Couldn't get back to sleep at all! I realized a few hours later that it was about bang on the time the bombs were happening.... I'd call it a weird coincidence... But the exact same thing happened to me at 9/11... It's spooked me a bit... Being in Aus! I'm not exactly physically connected to the states...

I was glued to the TV after 9/11. It was like the original Orson Wells broadcast of War of the Worlds. When it happened to a place I know, close to home, that was totally different. I've been so saddened by all the attacks around the world, but they weren't quite real. They are now!

It is absolutely disgusting, I really worry about this world. I too wish to extend my condolenses to all those involved. What a stupid, wicked, senseless waste.

What a shock especially for you 3 Piggles being so close. I'm just watching the news now, a little 8 yr old cheering his dad was killed. Shocking, pointless, man will never Learn. God be close to the families of the bereaved x

Pointless and senseless, exactly. So sad. I thought of you 3piggles as I know you have connections. Some really nice stories too though - just watching the local news and there's a chap who is now determined to run the Boston marathon next year by way of solidarity

I know. An 8 year old boy cheering his dad. What was so horrible about that.
It does seem as if the attack was aimed generally at disrupting the marathon for some reason. Ethiopians won the men's and women's divisions, and crossed the line with others of their contingent. Other international groups ran more or less together. Yet the explosions targeted whomever happened to be in the area at the time? This person will be caught, and I would not want to be that person when it happens.

One bomber was killed in a shoot out, and the other was captured last night!!! Great joint effort by local, state and federal authorities!!! That part of this nightmare is over. Now for the whys and what's going to happen to him.

That was some manhunt operation - glad it was successful and the men were caught (one way or another) and stopped from doing anything further.

I don't know if this has been on international news, but no cemetery will accept the body of the terrorist who was killed in the shootout with police. It's become a really nasty situation, with the funeral home director saying he can't keep the body, the uncle out of state saying he will take it, and no one allowing it to be buried.
Personally, I don't think it's the taxpayers responsibility to do anything more than bury the body in a paupers grave, as befits anyone who can't afford anything else. Typhoid Mary got that much! I don't see this being settled any time soon!

I did see that the funeral home owner was getting grief from people, but it's obviously escalated. It sounds like his final resting place may well just end up being a focus for those who are angry and wish to make a point. I'm sure his family don't want that either.

I think the cemeteries fear attacks by people who don't want the body buried there. I think Edgar Allen Poe's grave was vandalized so many times, his body isn't even buried there any more. Can't say I blame the cemetery owners for not wanting all that!

Jings we don't know any of this in Scotland, probably Britain. No he doesn't deserve to be buried anywhere near decent living people who are now at rest. Just cremate him and flush the ashes down the loo. The heartbreak he has left is unforgivable.

I hear they found someplace to take him (a small rural Islamic cemetery), but the locals are fuming about their relatives being buried near him. And others are worried his grave will become a shrine for anti-US sympathisers.

Still think he should be cremated and ashes flushed down the prison loo. God will be his judge! He shouldn't be anywhere near decent folks graves, I wouldn't like him near my relatives at peace.

He was buried out of state, at a small Islamic cemetery. I think his uncle took care of it. Would have been fine except the stupid media had to say where he was buried. Then the locals there got all upset. One of the many reasons I retired from newspaper reporting. It had gone from reporting the news to beating everyone else with announcement, even if we should have kept our mouths shut!
