Cillian Murphy seemed familiar, but I can't think what else I've seen him in. He was very good though. There were some other big names in it, and I thought their roles could have been better played by lesser-known actors. Unless they're amazing actors, you just end up thinking 'That's <insert famous actor's name here>' rather than believing in the character. He's been in plenty of Christopher Nolan's films (The entire Batman trilogy), Dunkirk, Inception- he's also in that TV show Peaky Blinders, and an assortment of offbeat films like 28 Days Later and Sunshine. I recall getting a chuckle out of someone reviewing his performance in Batman Begins, where he portrays the villain Scarecrow, a psychotic doctor who specializes in finding people's worst nightmares and bringing them to reality through his invention of a gas that affects a victim's mind. The reviewer kept complaining that Scarecrow is supposed to be terrifying, yet the reviewer "kept getting lost in Murphy's dreamy blue eyes!" I cannot remember if the critic was male or female, but either way it was hilarious.

I have seen a few of those things (28 Days Later, Dunkirk and Inception) but I don't recall him, so I mustn't be under his dreamy blue-eyed spell!

I can't really place him, either, but I haven't seen most of those movies.

I finally got to see the second Dune movie. It was very good, although I noticed they'd dropped several elements from the book in favor of updating the material. For the most part, this is a good thing. The one thing that was a bit much was that the original 1984 movie (and the book) pretty much ends the story, or at least gives the audience a decent stopping point. The new movie ends and there is still ongoing issues which aren't resolved yet! I suppose since Hollywood has green-lit a 3rd film, they'll wrap things up by then. It did get my buddy Ken a bit steamed, though- he'd waited YEARS to see the second half, and when it was over... it wasn't!

I really liked it too, although haven't read the books or seen the original film to compare. I didn't know that these two films had pretty much covered the book - I wonder what the die-hard fans will make of the third installment!

I didn't know that these two films had pretty much covered the book - I wonder what the die-hard fans will make of the third installment! The 1984 film can be skipped. It tries to cover the book faithfully, but unfortunately things that work in prose don't necessarily translate well to a visual medium like film. It's definitely great eye candy; the sets & costumes are gorgeous. Sometimes I think that version is best left playing on a TV at a party with the sound turned off. The third movie will cover the second book, and since the new films added some extra story, I'm curious to see how this will play out.
