So yesterday I went out and got this little guy. He's 4 months old, yesterday he was totally cuddly and calm and liked being on his back so you could scratch his belly, but today he's a total spaz... hoping its just the stress of a new environment and he'll calm back down again.

Aww he's adorable. Hope he settles down soon and that it is just moving that's put him temporarily out of sorts. I've never had a pig who liked being on their back - only ones who would tolerate it when necessary for some reason!

He's gorgeous I wouldn't push having him lie on his back. It's not natural for pigs. Try talking to him a lot. Tell him what you're going to do. Greet him when you enter the room. Just remove any chance of surprising and scaring him, and let him know if something good is coming. He will settle down and start showing his personality. Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk

Thanks everyone yeah he was only on his back for those pictures I don't want to stress him out. He is calming down a little again, he gets scared when you go to pick him up occasionally but he'll let me pet him in the cage and he's fine when he's out.

Try using a cuddle cup, basket or even an overturned pigloo to get hin in and out of the cage. Most pigs fear the process, not the results.

That's a good idea but i don't think he's quite that scared anymore, may use it for future pigs though . I want him to get used to my hands in the cage so when I do reach in I make sure not to pick him up every time, sometimes just pet him and talk to him and give treats, that way he won't run from me every time. Baby steps with him

Try things. Keep your voice soft and happy. If it doesn't work, he'll be fine.

My boys started running from my hands about a week ago. So, now I give them their first nibble of fresh stuff from my hand. It forces them to come to me. And now, after only a week, every time I put my hand in there they come running! I can't believe how fast this worked! Maybe it will work for you too.

Yeah I've tried that too, only thing is I'm not sure the place I got him from ever gave him fruits or veggies, he has no clue what they are and he'll just barely nibble on them and refuses hand feeding altogether, poor guy :/ eats his hay and pellets just fine

Aww that's sorry to hear, just may take a little more time for your fella. Talk to them when your near them as well so they know your coming and don't get scared. I am sure he will warm up to you soon xx

I agree with Glitze. It's different for each pig. Always talk to him. Include him in what you're doing. Let him come around at his own pace. Keep giving him small amounts of veggies, so he can try them when he's ready.

Your new piggy will take to veggies, just keep trying. Offer 1 veggie at a time until he realizes he can eat it.

Well if you can't get him to eat the veggies, he will once he sees his new piggy friends eating them. I have heard of people getting their piggys to take veggies by nibbling on them a bit so the piggy sees you eating them. I haven't tried this first hand though, it does sound a little quacky to me. Lol

Glad Scooter is enjoying all his veg now he has a positive role model (or just competition!). I have heard of people getting their piggys to take veggies by nibbling on them a bit so the piggy sees you eating them. I haven't tried this first hand though, it does sound a little quacky to me. Lol It's hard to imagine it making a difference to a guinea pig... haha! Although, I give my kids bits of carrot and celery to feed the guinea pigs when they have them out on their laps (it's quite necessary with Josh at the moment as he is Mr Fidgetbum and only stays still if he has food!). Then when I look round, the kids are busy munching the veg themselves with the pigs desperately trying to get their noses high enough in the air to reach it! Doesn't happen when I give them dandelions or grass though!
