I was going to post a few photos of our new charges but I don't seem to have posted about our last two yet, so meet Miriam and Lorna first. These gorgeous and sweet natured baby girls were found living wild on a playing field. It seems someone had just set them loose. Luckily one of the rescue's supporters spent a looong time staking out the place where they were living and managed to catch them both. We had them for a few weeks just while they grew a bit bigger before being neutered and vaccinated. And now they are safe and happy in their new home (with the chap who caught them - 3piggles, I think you saw the post on FB with the photos) in the most amazing set up. Hooray! Miriam Lorna

And now we have Nelson and Morag, two quite large rabbits who have already had a couple of homes in their 2 years. Morag is extemely sociable and loves being fussed over. Nelson has been a bit shyer but it quite confident around us now, he's just not so bothered to be stroked etc which is fine. They have a funny relationship - very close and they spend hours grooming each other. But Nelson is also rather hen pecked, and woe betide him if he gets between Morag and her food! Nelson Morag I totally overuse cardboard stuffed with hay and hidden bits of grass and leaves for them to forage out. While all our pairs have had different favourite things to play with, they all love this one!

I don't think it's possible to overuse cardboard It's disposable, so they van chew it all they want. The pigs love it! Add hay, and you have perfection I'm so glad the man who worked so hard to catch the girls got to adopt them. He built a great shelter for them. Twi happy bunny girls, and a happy dad Hen pecked bunny Poor fuy is probably happy with his lot, in general Mia tries to push Morty around, and manages up to a point. He tells her when she's gone too far

They had one of those days yesterday - I think Nelson had had enough and it really surprised Morag, she actually backed down to him which I've never seen her do before! They're so close in general though - they spend hours cuddled up and and grooming each other.

Our guinea pigs are like that. Lacy is a proper little madam and tries to bully Darcy. He will put up with so much and then put her in her place, it is great to watch.

Morag and Nelson haven't found their forever home yet, but they went back to the rescue so they could be around to win over potential adopters who come in without any particular buns in mind. All our other foster buns have had homes lined up when they've gone back, so we don't feel like we've finished with them yet and are keeping everything crossed they find a wonderful home soon! They're such big characters, really good fun to have around. Our new charges are two very pretty ladies called Simone and Isabella. They're very sweet and have lots of fun together, they just need to trim up a bit! I've tried to take more flattering photos of them so these photos don't really show it, but they do have rather immense chins! Both of them together - in a box as our foster buns so often are! If we fill it with different hays and some foraged greens, it keeps them entertained and digging around for ages. Isabella, whose fur is such a beautiful colour. And Simone with her lovely blue eyes.

They are so beautiful!I really miss having bunnies, but I know I can't really care for them as I need to, anymore. Hubby totally dismisses the idea, every time I mention it, but I also know I can't really manage them. I would love to volunteer at a rescue that handles piggies and buns, but I live too far away, right now. Enjoy your gorgeous new ladies

They're definitely more work physically than the pigs are. Probably just due to how much space they need and the fact that space has to be outside for us. If we had them indoors, perhaps they'd have a smaller area they could totally mess up and then use other space in the house more tidily. Although I'm forever reading about rabbits chewing up sofas, rugs, skirting boards and weeing on beds or removing wallpaper, that maybe it would still be a lot of work?! They are adorable little creatures though.
I'm looking forward to the nicer weather when it's a lot easier and more fun to spend time with outdoor animals! We put a lot of extra effort into making sure they have stuff to do when the weather's grim so they don't just sit about getting bored.

If we owned the land outside, and could do a really good run, it would be different. I doubt that will be the case again, and as our winters and summers can be really extreme, they would have to have an indoor place to spend the worst of the weather, or at least a great outdoor haven from the extreme weather. I can't clean the way I could when I had the free range piggies, or back when I had the bunnies, so that's also a problem. I think that's hubby's main issue, that he would end up having to clean up after them, and he doesn't want to. I also can only carry so much weight, which is why I don't have very heavy animals. I couldn't wrestle a dog into the car to get it to the vet, if injured, and I know that. Not sure how well I'd do with a couple of bunnies, either, and I wouldn't have only one. I'd love to live where the weather is generally mild year round, and be able to let my animals graze outside at their leisure. I have a friend in southern CA who litter box trains and socializes all the bunnies he rescues. Some have issues, and can't be adopted, but those who can be adopted, are ready to deal with indoor living. He also has turned most of his yard into a rabbitat. The rabbits can dig warrens, and keep themselves cool during the heat of a SoCal summer. He uses wading pools as ponds, and has sheltering trees or structures spaced around the yard, so the buns don't have to die of the heat while trying to get a drink. I'm not sure how thrilled his neighbors are with it. Some would call it an eye sore. I think it's rabbit wonderland Socializing and house training is gaining among fosterers and rescuers. I think it's a great idea to be able to offer pets who are used to people, to other pets, to litter boxes or asking to go outside. It takes the hardest parts, training and dealing with the mistakes, out of the adoption process. Will Camp Nibble let you know when your last two get adopted?

We follow Camp Nibble on facebook and the kids love looking at their 'successfully rehomed' page so we'll probably find out before she has a chance to let us know!
Morag and Nelson were larger than average rabbits and pretty heavy! Having them both in a carrier was a two handed job - usually one hand underneath as although the carrier was designed to take their weight, I preferred holding the bottom as well as the handle, just incase!
There are some wonderful set ups for rabbits out there. I think if we had our own rabbits we'd definitely want to make something spectacular if we couldn't have them indoors (which would be my ideal). We don't have the money to spend on it now though, and they do have a good set up with an attached run they can access 24/7 - it's certainly much better than the places they've usually come from, so it's a decent stopover en route to their forever home. I love watching the behaviour of rabbits that have enormous areas to frolick about in though - you can see how much they love it!
