faafaa, that's a great idea about soaking them when you clip their nails. I didn't know about the coconut oil trick. I'll have to start doing that. I'm trying to not be jealous that your piggies have places that they don't like to pee. I was just checking on my boys in The Burrow (I started making the kitchen bathroom the place where they get some real good floor time...named it The Burrow to continue the Harry Potter theme) and what do I find next to their water dish? A pond of pee. After two days of watching them, I've put newspaper down where they pee. Of course, they decided to show me that they can still pee other places even though they hadn't peed there before.

Don't get me wrong there is the occasional pee spot in other places, but most of it does stay in the pan. For the longest time I would pick up all their poos and put them in the litter pan. (YUCK) I don't know if that helped or not. Outside of the cage they pee everywhere! So they are by no means litter trained, they have trained ME to know where to put things! And it sounds like your boys are training you too!
How many Harry Potter movies are there? We have 8 and we have watched them countless times. There was something on the TV a few days ago that made us think that we were missing 1. Years 1-6 are on one DVD and year 7 is split between 2 DVDs. I have only watched the movies, I need to read the books. Is there a year 8 too???

lol because of your earlier advice about how you did litter training with hay in it, I have since done that. I clean up a lot less pee as a result. The only place that I wish I could really curb them of is peeing in their hidies. I still get lots of pee there. Oh, let me tell you about Harry Potter...feel free to shut me up because this is one of my favorite subjects and I can go on and on about it... As to the movies, there are eight. You have them all. As to why you feel like you are missing a movie, it is because of the poorly adapted (my local friends and my opinions) movies. My hubby has only seen the movies and he was so confused about them until we re-watched them with him pausing the movie every time something didn't make sense. I would then explain to him what was missing from the book, and then he'd be like "ohhh, that makes sense now." So missing key information from the books drove me nuts about the movies, but what really drove me nuts was the addition of things that really made no sense. There were times my hubby would pause the movie and turn to me waiting for an explanation for things that weren't in the book so we both were confused. My hubby is a smart man especially when it comes to movies, so I know it wasn't him but the movies that had him scratching his head. I was only able to start enjoying the movies when I would tell myself that they aren't Harry Potter movies but movies from a similar genre. As to the books, they are absolutely addicting. I have read the series multiple times, to my hubby's amazement. There are only seven books. The movie makers had split year seven into two movies, therefore the confusion. If you start reading the books, you'll have to tell me. I might be tempted to read along with you and we can chat about it, if of course, you want to.

Thanks for clearing that up! I tend to be cautious when starting a new book, and haven't for some time now. When I am reading a book EVERYTHING and EVERYONE is neglected. It's terrible how into books I get. I usually only read during football season and through the winter. If I am still unemployed when the kids go back to school I will start Harry Potter for sure. I can get it for my phone too, which could be really bad.... I will let you know when I start them!

I loved the books. Couldn't put them down. I haven't seen all the movies, but I heard they were pretty good. Definitely a series I recommend I've had guinea pigs for 10 years, so have had ample time ro make every possible mistake and to try just about everything. Odor is caused by three things. The bedding isn't keeping the pigs clean by allowing the urine to get off the surface where they lie, they are eating something that causes their urine to have a strong odor, or they are ill. The first two are the most common reasons. Fleece bedding wicks the urine down to an absorbent layer underneath. That absorbent layer has to be sufficient to not only hold the urine but neutralize the odor. If the urine stays where the pigs lie, the pigs will smell. If the urine pools where it's not neutralized, the cage will smell. Unless a pig is sick with a digestive tract problem causing diarrhea, the poo usually isn't the source of the odor. I did fleece over endless layers of towels and the cage still smelled. Towels and packing blankets don't neutralize oder. Once I put the pads over kitty litter, Carefresh or wood pellet bedding that did neutralize the odor, I had no more pig or cage odor problems. Baking soda will neutralize the odor, but it takes a lot, and it needs to be spread on the bottom of the cage. Baking soda treated puppy pads also neutralize the odor, but need to be changed once wet. So before washing the pigs, please make sure thet can't come in contact with the urine, and they don't have any health problems. I've also used the Organix South neem products, and really like them. They have a line of pet products, but not guinea pig specific.

Okay I know...I'm so needy, but Crowley sometimes just scares me!
If he's quiet, like just sitting on my chest and quiet- that's okay right? He's just chilling? I just don't want him to not like it and that's his way of telling me!

Don't worry, Scarlett. Even my Harry, my talkative one, has times when he is relaxed and not talking. Watch how he is sitting on you. If he is relaxed with his legs splayed out from under him or he is on his side a bit, he is perfectly comfortable. If he is sitting perfectly still with his back legs under him and his front legs straight up and down (like when he gets startled and freezes) then he is freaked out. Then I recommend feeding him some of his favorite veggies while he is hanging out on your chest.

If anything, pigs are more likely to let you know when they're not happy than when they are. Mine chirp, purr and cluck when I pet them, but are usually quiet when they're just vegging on my chest or shoulder. I think they fall asleep
