How in the world did we make it to just about the end of July before I realized I had not participated in this thread?!?
Tomorrow at 11am we go under a heat advisory that lasts thru Friday. It is to be 105*F! Yuck. We have air conditioning, but its not effective at all. We keep it set at 80*F and it just runs and runs. I dread the power bill. We have fans and frozen marble floor tiles that we use to help keep us humans and the pigs cool. At least living in the valley means cool nights.
I just scheduled my sons Senior Pictures. I cannot believe he will be graduating from High School soon! They go back to school in a few weeks. I'm not sure who is more ready, me or them!
I just downloaded the first Harry Potter book to my phone today. I have seen all the movies a few times but I keep putting off the books. If I disappear for awhile its because I have been swallowed up by the book! I have a terrible habit of not being able to stop reading.
With that said I have to finish my chores now so I can start reading!

Faafaa, OH GOODY, GOODY...you are reading Harry Potter.....(picture me jumping up and down with excitement...okay, truth be told, I'm not really jumping up and down but I am on the inside. ) Senior pictures...wow, they grow up fast. While I had a nephew graduate in May, he has only been my nephew for less than a year, so it wasn't all that emotional. This coming year, however, my baby...my brother's oldest girl (who is my Mini Me) is graduating from high school. Really? Where does the time go? They grow up so fast! I am excited for you, your hubby and your son. Such exciting times. Oh wow...that is hot! I couldn't live there. (I've never said this before but the nerves in my skin don't tolerate heat well...honestly, heat makes me feel like I'm lit up on fire...it is a medical condition that I'm treated for...so a/c that is usually in the low 70*F...I used to have to have it in the high 60*F and hubby really froze. Now he only freezes sometimes) I'm pulling for you all during this dreaded heat advisory. I find spraying water on my skin helps keep me cooler. My power company allows for this program which averages out your power bill and adjusts over time to reflect actual usage. It prevents those shock power bills. Maybe your power company does something similar?

We have a heating/cooling nightmare house, and our hvac maintenance person gave ys some great advice that might help. If you have a hot area and a cooler area, close the a/c vents in the cooler area. More cold will come out the hot area vents, and migrate to the cooler areas. Put heavy curtains and or light/heat blocking window film on the hot side. If you have ceiling fans, have them pull the cool air up and around in the summer, and push the hot air down and around in the winter. Don't know if any of this will help you. It has made a huge difference in keeping our house livable, though we do have floor standing a/c units in the back bedroom and attic snug. I closed the vent in the back bedroom, or the front bedroom gets too little. Wow! Senior pictures! It seems as if they are kids forever, and suddenly they aren't anymore! Kind of scary for them, too. Kidlife is coming to an end! At least that's dry heat! Silamb and I would get super humidity with that, and we'd be paddling through the air!! Think 105+in Florida

Even though we in the UK have few really hot days, I still wish I could afford air conditioning. We are all so very hot here today and the little ones are very lethargic.

Yes the heat here in the UK is reaching pretty high numbers! My student nursing uniform is so thick as well, I often feel like I'm going to pass out!

Check out something called an Enduracool towel. It comes in a hat and a cowel. I use them if I have to be outside. You could probably wear the towel under your uniform. Might help.

It has been unbearably hot here in the UK hasn't it Ayemee love for the past few days but the forecast has said that it is going to be cooler tomorrow. The poor babies do not know where to put themselves. This is not the weather to have a fur coat that you cannot remove.

Since it gets very cold here in the winter, tile floors don't make much sense, until a heatwave points out how nice and cool it is. Before the a/c and getting the whole temp control thing working, I used to put the pigs in the bathroom with the cold tile floor. They loved it. I think they were the only comfy ones

Is a strip getting shaved or clipped? I hope it helps. Not too hot but extremely humid here, today. Can't get away from ourselves. The pigs are moving slowly, as they're covered with hair and feeling it even more. I turned on the fan to move the air, and they really perked up.

Thankfully, it is much cooler here today; the little ones are more comfortable and they are not the only ones. We have had the fan on too and Holly (bun) sits right in front of it.I think our weather is set to change drastically tomorrow and they we all regret moaning about the heat LOL!

We are a funny bunch, us humans. Never happy are we? Its too hot or too cold or to humid. Lol
This house doesn't have any ceiling fans, except the one over the dining room table. It hasn't been an easy adjustment. The house in FL had a ceiling fan in every room! We even had them on the porches! This house isn't built for hot weather and the a/c thing is too small for this house. As a rental unit the landlord doesn't care about those thing but he would if he had to live in it!

This house doesn't have any ceiling fans, except the one over the dining room table. It hasn't been an easy adjustment. The house in FL had a ceiling fan in every room! We even had them on the porches! Fans are fantastic. I'm here sitting in my living room with a ceiling fan blowing down on me. I'll go to bed with a fan blowing on me. I have portable fans, small floor fans, big fans, air mover fans, tower fans...fans, fans, fans...fantastic fans. My last house had a fan over the dining room. It drove me nuts. I rarely could use it since eating dinner the fan would cool off of the food. If I reversed the direction of the fan, it wasn't of any real use. So I solved that problem. I turned my living room area into the dining room and my dining room area into my living room area. Then the fan was used all of the time.

I have as many ceiling fans as possible. They aren't common in New England, where we don't usually have long hot periods. We use them to pull the cold air up and around in the summer, and push the hot air down and around in the winter. Saves a lot on heating and cooling bills. I have tower fans in the living room. Ceilings aren't high enough to hsve ceiling fans in the walking areas. Love fans

We don't have any ceiling fans either hun but I have the fan on all night when it is hot like this. I find it easier to sleep with the fan on anywhere, it is like sleeping in the open air and on the odd time I have done it (on the beach for instance) I have had a really lovely sleep.

I use tower fans and ceiling fans to move the air conditioned air around. Cuts way down on the a/c bill. When the nights are nice, I have window fans to pull the outside air into the rooms. Nice to get the fresh air in breeze form

The last couple of nights have been much cooler - far easier to sleep! We had a tower fan but I gave it to my niece who sleeps in an attic bedroom which gets really stuffy when it's hot, so we just have to put up with it the few nights of the year it does actually get too hot to sleep well! Oh and I think hand stripping in dog grooming is where you basically groom out the bits of their old coat by hand - with combs and other implements, but a lot more thoroughly than a brush over. So I guess a good strip would help them keep cool! Think it's pretty time consuming though.

We put a fan in the window at bed time. It helps to cool things off but it also helps to block out the traffic noise. It's been terribly warm and humid here the last few days. I'm ready for fall!
I thought that maybe to have a dog stripped down was taking the clippers to them and shaving the bulk of their hair off.... lol
