Cookie, I am so sorry to hear about Bedhead. Don't beat yourself up. You cared wonderfully for him. How is Guinness coping?

Thanks you guys. I know it's not helpful to anyone to beat myself up with all the 'what if's', so I will try hard not to do that.
Guinness is acting pretty much the same way Bedhead did after Potroast died. She's stayed in her hidey for most of the day today and hasn't eaten much except a couple green pepper slices and a couple pieces of lettuce.
One thing I can be thankful for is since we're not into winter yet and the ground isn't frozen, I was able to bury Bedhead right next to Potroast's grave. So now they can be together forever.

So sorry about Bedhead. Hope Guinness adapts okay and starts showing a bit more interest in life.
Regular weighing is definitely a good idea as if you handle your pigs regularly - sometimes you don't notice weight loss as fast as you think you will because it's so gradual on a day to day basis.
While it's definitely not helpful to beat yourself up about what you might have done differently, learning from mistakes is always important and blood is never a sign that should be ignored. We can all honour the pigs we have lost in sad ways by using that knowledge for present and future pigs.
Hope you are feeling okay.
Sleep tight Bedhead xx

Bean you're so right and I do feel absolutely awful that I didn't get her the help she needed. Don't want to beat myself up with the 20/20 hindsight...but I know I shouldn't have ignored the blood. I don't know why I did that...I really did love her and would never want any of my piggies to ever suffer a moment of pain. I guess I had kept fooling myself that if she really felt awful or in pain she wouldn't have been gobbling up her veggies. But then I do know that piggies hide their illnesses so they don't seem weak. I guess I really haven't been in my right mind lately... I once had these turtles and one of them got sick and I took the turtle to the vet and they gave him antibiotic shots and also sent me home with shots to give him every day for a week. So having done that in the past...I can't even justify it that it was the money or inconvenience. While it was really hard financially just having very expensive vet bills for my dog a couple weeks ago...I can't honestly say that was the reason I didn't take her in. I just had myself fooled that she would be ok. Stupid on my part and I regret it deeply. So, definitely a big learning experience!

The way guinea pigs hide illnesses is really something that evolution should get rid of in domesticated pigs - it'd be so much easier to help them if we could see how they are feeling.
You would be so sad losing your beloved Bedhead anyway, but it's always worse when you have 'what ifs'. It's a rubbish feeling and I'm sure we've all been there at some point or another, especially when life has thrown other problems at us that can distract us from focusing on other things as we usually would. Just concentrate on the fact that Bedhead had a great life with you and you've learned something which'll benefit all your furry family in the future.
How is Guinness today?

I'm so sorry about Bedhead ❤❤❤
I would have done the same thing. As long as she didn't seem to be in any psin or distress, I would have watched her closely to get some information to tell the vet. Especially since her symptoms didn't last. When pigs reach their expiration date, they can have all sorts of little issues, or go quietly. It depends on so many things.
I'm glad you got to bury her next to Potroast. Popcorn free over the Rainbow Bridge, little guinea girl ❤
