Hey Everyone! I have posted on the forums before when I first babysat my brother guinea pig Nuggi Prior to us having him he was largely on his own with little attention to the family and very frightened by humans! Due to your advice and help we eventually got to talk with him and he felt more happy and noisy! (Remember all from the perspective of an amateur). After we gave him back he turned back to his old habbits and started scratching his fur off, so we just recently got him back! Since We've had him he is no longer frightened by my other half, however still terrified of me, possibly due to my height. Thought I would come back to the forums and introduce him as we are keeping him indefinitely now! Attachment DeletedAttachment DeletedAttachment DeletedAny advice on keeping guinea pigs for a complete beginner would be much appreciated! Note no inedible hay in the cage as it semt to give him an itch, No lid on the cage as we were talking to Nuggi and he is sadly alone but due to location issues it is not yet possible for us to get a second guinea pig as well as a bigger cage! As always, sorry for any bad English!

Aww he's gorgeous and thank you for taking him in as it sounds like he will have lots more interaction and attention with you. You certainly cared a lot about taking good care of him when he was staying with you before. Plain pellets are better for them than the mixes - they have all sorts of stuff in guinea pigs don't need and you can get selective feeding. For an adult pig, look for one that is timothy based if possible. This is a good care pamphlet as a starting point. (It's available in other languages if that helps you at all, but your English sounds great to me!) The Guinea Lynx website is a great source of information, but any questions you have, we will do our best to help you with - welcome back!.

Welcome back Nuggi is looking great I'm so glad he's with you, and if he started pulling out his fur when he got back home, he's also glad he's with you. If you think your height is a problem, try sitting or kneeling by the cage, whichever puts you more at his level. I agree with everything Bean said. I am going to try a compressed hay cube, if I ever remember to order it, and will report on that. It might help with the allergies. Definitely remove any seeds or colored bits from the pellets, and if available in your area, buy pellets made from Timothy hay instead of alfalfa. Nuggi's cage is protected on two sides, and as long as he's not too into jumping, he should be okay. If anything, try putting some pieces of flat cardboard on the unprotected sides, when you're not going to be home. He will chew it. No problem. Don't worry about the English. We understand you just fine

Welcome back! Nuggi is a handsome little piggie. I'm so glad that he has you to care for him now. Like you, my boys only have hay in their kitchens (well, that is unless they go crazy and throw it around). Has his itching stopped?
