Ooh, love baked potatoes with a variety of toppings. So does hubby. One of the things he really shouldn't have, as it's high in carbs, but we need to cheat and have a loaded baked potato, one of these days I'm have a new recipe for beef barley soup, I want to try. I hope it's good. I'm trying a new recipe for crab cakes tonight, but I'm using tuna instead. I don't have any sauce for it, so I'm going to try Alfredo. I'll let you know how it goes

One of my favourite fillings with backed potato is chilli. I normally just have mine with cheese though tuna is nice too. I shouldn't have them either love LOL!! The beef barley soup sounds wonderful, I hope to make some more soup this week.

We have cans of the chili that goes on baked potatoes or hot dogs. I think it would also go on hamburgers, but a bit of ground beef overkill, there Now I'm really wanting a loaded baked potato It was 10 degrees below zero, this morning, windchill not included. I'm happy to say we reached double digits above zero by early afternoon, and are up to 18F at 4:30 p.m. Tomorrow is another snow storm, but again, not a lot of snow. Each snow brings warmer temps, so tomorrow should be right around freezing. More thawing This weekend also looks really good, no storms. First one in a while that we didn't have to get out early on Saturday to do our shopping before the snow arrived Thanks to the last thawing/freezing cycle, I will be knocking icicles off the roof overhang, again. I can add that to my resume, lol

We have been very lucky here, it hasn't been too cold today either. Some of our daffs are starting to show their heads which is very encouraging.

Just got the electric bill for the past month. Twice what it was the month before. This bitter cold has cost everyone a lot, and I know not everyone is going to be able to pay for it. A friend in Ohio was worried that the space heater she bought would run up her electric bill. I told her the electric company is willing to work out a payment plan, which is a lot better than her or her dogs ending up with frost bite. The water line from the kitchen sink to the fridge, for cold water on demand, was frozen Tuesday, in the record low temps. That line is completely inside the house. I'm hoping next months bill will be a lot less. Good thing the daffs and crocuses weren't poking up their heads

The cost of cold weather can be crippling for so many. And that's not being cosy - it can just be heating one room to a temperature where you still have to have extra layers and blankets.
Does anyone get any help extra there? The government here give out an annual Winter Fuel payment to anyone of a pensionable age or on a low income, and an extra Cold Weather Payment if the temperatures go below a certain level. It can still be a struggle for many to heat their homes, but it helps.

We have a metre for our electricity and it is damned expensive. A couple of times we have not been able to have the heater on in the living room the only warm place being my bedroom. We are supposed to be getting gas central heating put in this year but I will believe it when I see it. We haven't had any help Bean love because we don't fall into the right categories, in other words, we don't get the right benefits to qualify. Our daffs are a bit reluctant at the moment Piggles love which makes me think that they know something we don't LOL!!

When I was growing up in a house that only had heat on the first floor, and my room was on the third floor, I thought it was terrible to have as much frost on the inside of my windows, as on the outside. Now I don't do heat well, at all, so maybe it was a good thing. We invested in some thermal underwear, and have been wearing it since the bitter cold arrived. It definitely makes it easier to keep the thermostat down to 65F, and since the heating is so bad in this house, few rooms are actually more than 63F. That's why we have the oil-filled heaters in the coldest rooms. We have gas heat, but have no idea how much it would cost to increase that to keep the house warm. I have the living room space heater set at 72F just to get the room warmed up to 64F. The heating/cooling in this house is awful.400 years after the country was settled, and the only way to keep warm is to dress in lots of layers, indoors! Doesn't seem like much progress.

I agree with you hun, that is not on at all. We have been wearing extra layers when our heating hasn't been on.

It's also hard when my back is really bothering, as I don't move around as much as I'd like, so I don't keep warm as easily. If I'm active, I stay warmer, but that's not always an option.

Me too love, I can barely walk at the moment. The heater has been on for the last day so it is really toasty warm in here. We cannot put the fire on because the piggies' run is in front of it so we rely on the storage heater.
