This is the two-masted schooner entering Portsmouth (harbor), New Hampshire. Sleek, wooden vessel This is the Spanish Galleon outside Portsmouth harbor. She was later escorted in by a tug boat Sorry we couldn't get a bigger picture, but she was out quite a way. We did use the built-in binoculars at the fort, which gave us a much closer picture of her, but the camera didn't have the same telephoto capability: This is her under full sail: media.hamptonroads.com/cache/files/images/1633851.jpg

Beautiful - I'd have loved to have seen that too! Looks like perfect weather for boat watching too.

It was great boat-watching weather, and really made me want to live where I could see the sea and the boats. Waterfront property is always the most expensive, but at least we can get down there to visit once in a while When my parents had their boat in Sipican Harbor, off Buzzards Bay, we took the tender out to see the tall ships up close and personal one 4th of July. The USS Eagle was there, and she was breathtaking a0530404.uscgaux.info/images/eagle.jpg All the boats light up all their rigging after dark, and it's spectacular

That's breathtaking! The Tall Ships sometimes come to Navy Pier at Lake Michigan, but it's usually so crowded, the ships are hard to enjoy. They say they sail up to Green Bay, Wisconsin, and supposedly that's less populated- I'd like to try going there one day. On a related note, I did take a one-hour tour on a tall ship (named Windy) to see some of Chicago's lighthouses a few years back. This is a vid I took while on the ship:

Light houses interest me too, I remember going to the top of one (in the days when I could walk) and being fascinated by the big bulb. I also love clock towers for some reason. Wow, those are really beautiful ships.

There are some beautiful light houses on the lakes, that's for sure. That was a great light house tour! I also like clock towers, Jo I find it amazing that the great lakes are so big, ocean-going craft have plied those waters for centuries. I'm glad they have some great tall ships to do the tours. They are so beautiful all lighted up, and for people up to the task, many take tourists on as working crew members or passengers. We have a group out of Maine called Windjammer Cruises, that takes people on authentic schooners, etc. We had a small sloop (1 mast). My father took a picture of the three-masted Windjammer schooner, put that pic on top of the pictures of his boat, and he'd hand the pile of pictures people saying "Here are pictures of my boat." Of course, they always thought the schooner was his, then the boat in the next picture would have fit inside the schooner, lol It was his favorite prank

Ha ha, good for him Piggles love. I am glad it isn't just me who likes clock towers. We have a beautiful one here in Liskeard which I believe is of an Italian design and one in a village about 30 minutes away from here in a village called Grampound I haven't managed to find out anything about that one though.

When we drove up to Nova Scotia, we were interested in the church and bridge designs. It was obvious specific influences were in the architecture in specific places, with both. Good way to pass the time on a long trip My real passion is light houses, as there are some real beauties, both ocean and lake. The Great Lakes are so big, they are like oceans, and need light houses for the same reason coastal ocean areas do.
