Are there any chess players in this forum? I like to play but can't find anyone who knows how to play so I've recently joined a chess-only forum where there are beginner and intermediate players. The forum is called Lovers of Chess loversofchessgame.boards.netIf you sign up, I'll be pleased to play you. Disclaimer: I've no interest in this chess forum other than as a player. Admin hope I'm not breaking any of your rules.

Not me, I'm rubbish at it! My dad's really good and tried to teach me when I was a kid, but I never gave him a run for his money, even with him only having a third of his pieces!
My son quite likes the odd game and I play him sometimes, but the part I always struggle with is the end - I often seem to end up in stalemate, even when I'm sure I could have won if I'd been savvier? We're probably not even in stalemate half the time, just neither of us know enough to not just end up chasing each other round! My husband's better so their matches are more productive.
I love Scrabble though!

I could never play my father. He was too serious. I'd get bored waiting on his move.
Scrabble? Love that game too.

My dad managed to make it fun (I think he started with about two pieces and would earn an extra one each time I beat him) - I just don't think I've got the strategic kind of a brain you need to play chess.
My kids both enjoy a game of Scrabble which pleases me greatly - the older they get, the better a game they give me. I think one of my proudest moments as a parent was when my son got his first independent bingo - it beat first steps, first words or any of that kind of stuff!

My father tried to teach me to play chess. I couldn't win even when he told me how I've often wondered if I would do better in my old age, as it often takes me a long time for certain ideas to take hold. He used to play against a grand master, by mail. I wonder if the games would have taken as long, if they could have sent the moves to each other by email I used to love playing scrabble. Then I played with someone who was so serious, it took all the fun out of it. I like to play games for fun, not for live/die bragging rights. Hubby isn't one for scrabble, so I haven't played in years. We had a game table for a while, one that had the boards for lots of different games, and places to store all the pieces underneath. That was great while daughter was around, and we could have multi-player games, but not so much for the two of us. I would like to get back into playing some of the board games the two of us can play when we want to.
