It's coming into watermelon season. I won't give too much to the pigs but I'd just like to check which bits are OK to eat.
Of course, they can eat the middle but not the seeds. What about the rind and the green skin?

Most people do give the melon with the rind/skin on. I've seen a couple of people say you shouldn't give the very outer green layer, and the reason has related to pesticides potentially being on the outside. As it's not something most people seem concerned about, I figure if you are worried, just give it a wash first.
As you say, seeds are a no-no, but the general consensus is that the rind/ skin is fine.

Great, thanks. I always wash it before I cut it anyway. Many times it's still got some soil on it.

I feed the rind as well, and I leave the green outer skin on. The pigs don't seem to eat that, so I'm not worried. You can always scrub the melon clean with a veggie brush before you cut it.
The great thing about the rind is that it has a lot of liquid in it. Put rinds around the cage when it's very hot, and the pigs won't ever be far from water. Obviously, they need to be changed out regularly, or they attract flies and ants, but if you have to go out for an hour or two, it's a good way to help them fight heat stroke. Cucumbers are also great for that.

I try not to get too crazy with the sugar, but when I do give out watermelon I just give them tiny little chunks of the good red stuff with no seeds. Deo loved watermelon, and Theo is fairly crazy about it too. Oscar wasn't too enamored, but lately I think he'd eat anything I put in his cage.

Not all watermelons are sweet. We just had 3 different quarters we bought at the store at different times, and the first one was nice and sweet. The last two not so much, mostly blah. All watermelon lovers expect the sweet taste, so it's disappointing when we bite into a really blah piece. I love when the pigs get a blah piece. The looks on their faces are priceless, lol I love that look, and the "are you serious" look when they are hoping for a certain veggie, and I give them something else
