Hello, I am new to this forum and I would like to introduce my 2 sweet little piggies! I have a male and a female, my male is neutered. I originally got peanut all by herself one night, because I hadn't done too much research on piggies and I did not know at this point that they needed friends. I knew how to take care of them but did not know extensive knowledge. I got her sort of randomly to be honest I have always had a passion for animals but never specifically guinea pigs. I was living with my mom at the time, (I am a first year college student living with my boyfriend now) and I begged her to let me get another pet as I have owned birds and fish and we had a dog. I really wanted a special little guy to take care of and love and something that depended on me. (I was/am going through really severe depression at the time). I had read it was good to have a pet or take care of something as a therapeutic remedy. Since I had always found animals therapeutic I thought this was right for me. My mom finally agreed one night and let me go to the pet store (I know now not to buy from there). I picked out peanut as she was all alone and as soon as I laid eyes on her my heart just melted!!! I was sold, I needed a guinea pig and specifically her! So I bought her and a large pet store cage that assured me was perfect for one guinea pig. (Still makes me angry that they told me keeping one was fine and that a pet store cage was okay). So i took her home and started to do extensive research on guinea pigs to improve her quality of life. I ended up fixing all the wrong mistakes I had made and especially got her a friend ! Oh and I must mention now I have developed a huge passion for guinea pigs!
Rexy!! I got Rexy as a friend for peanut. I quickly got him neutered and eventually put them together (after an introduction of course) They LOVE each other I could not have found a better match.
Peanut is a very outgoing, cheeky and comical little pig. She never fails to entertain. She is very active and is always caught popcorning and running laps. Actually I like to call it tag. Rexy and peanut will chase each other (in a friendly way) and as soon as the one chasing the other touches the other pig they switch and run the other direction. So whoever was last touched is now "it" and chasing the other piggy. They will do this 5 or 6 times in a night. Peanut also LOVES veggies. I feed then green bell pepper, green leafy lettuce, a small baby carrot, half a cherry tomato and some cucumber. She will always sit there and eat it all until it is gone. Where Rexy will eat some run around a little and eat some more. Peanut is always the one to start chirping, speaking and wheeking as soon as she here the fridge door open and the lettuce being washed and the cucumber being cut. she will be standing up at the front of the cage right when I turn the corner into the living room and so I always give her a little piece from my hand first. She is also very cuddly and adorable. Although sometimes during lap time all she wants to do is go exploring. Oh and also we have this thing going now that when I go to pick her up she jumps right onto my hand now!! which I love.
Rexy on the other hand does not like to be picked up but he enjoys his lap time very much he loves to snuggle up in his blanket and is always calm. Although in the cage he is wild! He is constantly running and popcorning all the time!! He loves carrots and lettuce the best but will eat the other stuff. He is such a sweet heart and loves to find the coziest spot to lay always. Also likes to snuggle with peanut, although peanut is not always up for this but most of the time they sleep together.
Also in the end I have found them VERY therapeutic and very calming they make me so happy and I love their company it is soothing. They actually have helped me a lot!!
Attachment DeletedAttachment DeletedAttachment Deleted these are some pictures, rexy on the left, peanut in the middle and their enclosure on the right. for some reason the enclosure looks small in the picture but it is about 14 sq ft!
