My Syrian hamster bubbles has recently stopped gaining weight I feed her regularly she is about 2 and a 1/2 years old, I checked her cage and there is a bit of food in it but no more than usual she pretty much sleeps all the time now apart from about 20 minutes where I get her out to have a wander around and she seems active but fragile very fragile I have tried bread, pasta and she's eating them just not gaining the weight, she may just be old and getting near the end but I don't like to think that as she is my baby and means the world to me so please help let me know some soft fatty foods to give them

I am so sorry to hear that your little baby isn't well love, I would suggest that she be taken to the vet to get a clearer picture. We are actually a Guinea Pig site and there are hamster forums who may be able to help. I hope she picks up and gets better.

Sorry your hamster isn't doing so well. As you say, it could just be slowing down due to old age, but I've no idea what things hamsters suffer with so what else it could be, or what foods would be best to feed to help them put on weight. I'd suggest taking her to the vet for a check up, or maybe finding a hamster forum where more knowledgeable people can give their views?
Good luck anyway, it sounds like she is a much loved little lady and I hope she's okay. Please keep us posted.

I hope your little hammy is doing ok. Even though this isn't a hamster forum, I would love to know how she's doing.

Hi, i am sorry to hear this about your hamster, I actually own a hamster and am quite knowledgeable on them, try feeding oats just plain oats and millet spray both are fattening yet healthy! They should help your hamster put on some weight.

Hi ~ Sorry to hear about your hammy. I also have a syrian hamster an she did that also. she was playing , drinking water an all of that normal but simply wasnt gaining weight wasnt eating much food. I finally figured out that she didnt like the food..so I changed foods an she now is eating an gaining her weight back. Best of luck with your little furry friend.

I'm going to parrot what everyone else has said, it could be old age? I'd consider finding a vet that handles exotic animals, not a traditional vet and get the baby check out. Do you have cats and dogs as well? Perhaps it could be a parasite? Or another underlined health issue
