St. Andrew's Day is the feast day of Saint Andrew. It is celebrated on the 30th of November. St. Andrew's Day is Scotland's official national day. In 2006, the Scottish Parliament designated St Andrew's Day as an official bank holiday.

Oooh another month taken care of courtesy of Shades! That's a great photo - he looks like a good guard pig!
I've just done the school run and seen a fair bit of evidence that it was Halloween last night - sweet wrappers and bits of costume. Some people seem to have used it as an excuse to mess about with fireworks too. We had more trick or treaters than ever before, with varying degrees of costume effort!

I love that little face, it looks as if he means business. He is gorgeous hunni. There are always sweet wrappers and the like scattered everywhere after trick or treat night and I agree Bean love, it is annoying. We don't get any trick or treaters here though which is disappointing.

Aw, he's so cute Thank you for another picture of him, Shades No trick or treaters through here last night, either. Nice and quiet, though a couple of nights ago, someone was setting off fireworks after 10 p.m., not too far from here. The availability and use of fireworks are regulated by each city/town, and this town allows the sale and personal use of fireworks. I'm glad Halloween isn't a time for major fireworks, as we're in between 3 towns that do fireworks, and we can see and hear all of them from here. I really do wish something would be done about them, though. They terrify animals, but they also terrify people with PTSD, and after serving their countries and getting PTSD, the least they should be able to do is not expect to feel under attack in their own homes. Having Internet problems again. If I can ever get Vic to show me how to load pictures from my phone, I'll post the two error messages I get most often. Right now, Mozilla Firefox seems to have had a melt down, so I think it may need to be removed and reloaded. It's not particularly reliable. Lots of "Oops, we've got a problem" messages from them. Last time they lost my files, and I reloaded, but nothing will load, especially Wheekers. I've asked Vic to check it out, but it could take weeks for him to get around to it. So once again, I'm not avoiding everyone. I just can't get through to Wheekers

I think there should just be organised firework displays nowadays and therefore not sold for private use but I guess there is too much money to be lost if that happens. They are really expensive too. I always dread the 5 November because I worry about the animals but I can well imagine that people with mental disorders can also be affected. I am sorry you are having internet problems again Piggles love, is it the same problem which keeps recurring?

I agree they should just be for sale for organised/ professional displays - we need to change the mentality of how they should be used. I also much prefer the displays put to music (especially classical) rather than all the big bangs - I love watching fireworks, but feeling like I'm in a warzone takes the edge off the experience for me.
We had a lot of fireworks over the weekend for Diwali celebrations, but thankfully the buns were unperturbed by it all. The guineas indoors never seem to register it - they put up with so much noise from us that it's probably water off a duck's back to them!
Sorry you're having computer problems, 3piggles - hope hub can help you out sooner rather than later!

The Boston Pops 4th of July concert and fireworks celebration is one of my favorites. The Pops always play the 1812 Overture during the fireworks, and I think it's a great combination. The local fireworks are just set off in a park or playing field, where people can gather to enjoy them. They are nice fireworks displays, but they do lack the musical accompaniment. Sometimes there are concession stands at some of the displays, which means fried dough or cotton candy, which helps keep the kids quiet.
My objection if that it sounds so much like gun fire, and automatic gun fire, that veterans with PTSD relive everything that gave them the PTSD in the first place. Even if they won't stop it from terrifying animals, at least consider the veterans!

(This was related to the October thread, but I wanted to move on) I tried that AdBlocker app Shades recommended and I almost thought it was too strong, as a Yuku message board I visit was completely unavailable, but as I can't access it on my phone or on Windows Explorer I think the site is down for maintenance (or the Admin pulled the plug!)
The ads aren't obtrusive on Wheekers, so I'm disabling the app here.

Even as a child I only liked the noiseless fireworks, I never had any that used to bang.

Baz, I tried an ad blocker, and it seems so many different things all have to be set with the same parameters, or nothing works. The ad blocker apparently didn't have the same parameters as something else that I had to have running, so nothing ran. Firefox has it's own ad blocker, which I tried. I'm finding Firefox not to be particularly reliable, which I think it why I stopped using it years ago. It's constantly crashing, and sending oops, we lost you files messages to me. I'm glad I'm not using it for anything except Facebook. I'm back to using Wheekers on Chrome, because Firefox couldn't handle it at all. After the first week or so of it running so smoothly, Firefox did an update, and Wheekers became app non grata It finally started hanging all of the apps, and I got a message saying one app was stopping all the others from working. So back to Chrome with Wheekers. I can't do Facebook on Chrome, because Chrome puts the chat field right across the middle of the screen. Again, their software and Facebooks aren't on the same page, and since it's been that way for a few months, it's not looking good for them to get it sorted. It's the last Friday before election day!!! I can't wait to have that behind us. I got one sale flyer and 5 political ads in the mail today. Argh!

I am so sorry you are having these problems Piggles love, I feel as if my right arm has been cut off if I don't have a puter especially as I do not have a laptop for backup.
I agree with you about the election, we are over here and just wish it was over. Come on Hilary hunni, you can do it.

I was using Internet Explorer for the longest time, until I started running into issues. Someone suggested Firefox, so I went with that instead. Haven't really had problems, unless all the troubles I've had have been related to Firefox... but I'm not savvy enough to find out.

I'm not surprised you are counting down the days until election day, 3piggles - I can't imagine how much it must be dominating life over there as it's tiring enough over here. I'm not a major fan of Hilary Clinton, but the thought of that idiotic buffoon Trump even having a chance of being elected just makes me feel like I'm living on an alien planet.

On another board someone else made the remark that he couldn't believe we might actually get "a YouTube comment for a president!" I'm also burned out by this election nonsense. It just seems worse this year.

You are right Bean love, it is on our news morning, noon and night so I cannot imagine what it must be like in the States. I don't know much about Hilary Clinton but she has to be better than Trump. At least she is a democrat.

Yes, Jo, Clinton is the Democrat, and Trump is the republican, which are basically Labour and Tory. They used to be the Whigs and the Tories, way back. Most of our campaign seasons have been about the candidates saying what they would do, if elected. Vote for me!!! Each put out a platform that could be compared, questioned, etc. This one started out that way, but quickly became a nasty battle of name calling. It has been nasty beyond nasty. I prefer to never, ever see an ad from this campaign season, again! Tomorrow is election day. I'm staying up late tonight to watch the Seattle Seahawks game, so tomorrow morning will come really early. Still, I'd rather get up at the crack of dawn tomorrow, and get it over with, and go back to bed, than wait until Vic gets home after work. The ads are all over Facebook, Proboards, Gmail, you name it. There's no getting away from it. I have been channel surfing during the commercial breaks in TV shows, even if it's just to find a commercial break that isn't showing a political ad. Jo, I just watched a really great interview with Jon BonJovi. He has a new album out, and it's about Richie Zambora leaving, issues he had with the recording lable he'd used for years, etc. He really seems to be a great guy. He owns an arena football team called the Philadelphia Soul, and is trying to buy into an NFL team. He also has his Soul Foundation that does good works for the needy. www.bonjovi.com/ I think his best comment in the interview was that by getting a record contract at 21, his parents stopped pushing him to get a real job The house is creaking and cracking as it warms up and cools down. I've always lived in multi-level houses, so the sounds were at the bottom of the house, and I was upstairs. Now, living in a one-level house, it's all happening right underneath me. It's a lot more noisy than I expected! The house is also still settling, which adds to the amount of noise.

Do you feel like your house is about to launch out to sea?!
Well, let's all keep our fingers crossed for the election results. It'll be a dark, dark day for the whole world if people choose Trump to be in charge of your country.
We're due some snow here tonight/ tomorrow - the kids are excited, even though it's only supposed to be 2-5cm where we are.

Enjoy the link, Jo We voted this morning. I can walk for about a mile at a time, but I can't stand in lines, which is why Vic does the shopping. We arrived at the polls when they opened, there was already no parking within half a mile of the polls, and there were at least 200 people in line waiting for the polls to open. We stood in line for an hour. The voters are divided into three lines, based on the first letter of the last name. We were in the longest and slowest line. By the time I got to sit down in fill in my ballot, I wanted to cry, I was in so much pain, but I did it, and I'm hoping my vote for Clinton will help get her elected. If Trump gets elected, I fear for just about everyone. The racists, bigots, sexists and cheats will be validated, and they will support him. He will also get to appoint at least one supreme court justice, if not more, and that person will fit his way of thinking. Please, world, keep your fingers crossed! It was at least nice to awaken to sunlight, so once again, Bean, yes, there are good aspects to having to set the clocks back. The negative was having the Seattle Seahawks football game run until almost midnight last night, which our internal clocks said was 1 a.m. The Seahawks beat the Bills, and there were some great plays, so at least it was an interesting game. My grandaughter didn't understand what I said over the phone, when I said I was watching the Seahawks play football. She thought I said Peacocks. So every Seahawks game, my daughter sends me a Go Peacocks facebook message. This time I got to reply with Peacocks Won, lol Bean, I forgot to tell you that Vic brought all the Christmas decorations from storage, and instead of putting them away for a couple of weeks, decided to put them out. So the Christmas tree is up and lighted, in the living room. He has the anamatronic snowman plugged into the lamppost out front. He has lights on the side deck and stairs, and has the rest of the lights ready to go up on the new gutters(there are special hooks for lights to go on gutters). It's very festive. The lights on the tree didn't work, as they need to be replaced every couple of years, so he used battery operated strings of lights we had. The lighted bow on top of the tree is also battery operated, They are all set to turn on and off at certain times, which is great! He also has all the flickering electric candles in the front windows, but I turned off the ones in the bedroom, as they are so bright, they kept me awake. I have a feeling the decorations are going to stay up until Vic feels like putting them all up on the loft in the shed Wow, Bean, snow! It was always snowing in all the Christmas Carole movies, but very few of my British friends ever got any snow. I figured the snow was a Hollywood addition. I hope you get enough to get a wintery look, and maybe even build a snowman Now that Halloween is behind us, I learned about this place: museumofwitchcraftandmagic.co.uk/ Any of the UK contingent ever been there? It looks like a fun place.

I've not heard of that museum but Jo might have!
I'm sorry you had to queue for so long to vote, but thank you so much for going through all that to help stop something awful happening! Hope others in your queue had the same idea as you too.
The kids are excited about the prospect of snow, but now we have the added fun of my son going to a high school a few miles away, and it's higher up than we are so they generally get more snow. We haven't had much snow for the last few years, but we'll have to prepare a bit better for it now. The school have said if they have to shut, they let you know by 7am, so I'm glad we find out nice and early, before he needs to head off!
Oooh Christmas is there already? I was a bit bad today and bought a couple of Christmassy things when I called in at some shops on the way home - mainly crafty stuff for the kids to make cards etc, so I had to get them now, right?
