At last, I have my piggies! I have two little Abyssinian girls who are delightful but at the moment very nervous. We put them into their pen yesterday and horror of horrors they escaped. We managed to find them so they have had to go in the hutch that we have for now and see if we can work something else out. As soon as they are calmer, I will send some piccies. They are just adorable.

I meant to say their names are Prudie and Demelza (Demi). I let Paul pick the names and they so seem to suit our little girls.

Oooh exciting! They sound gorgeous, but fancy keeping you on your toes by escaping straight away! I've always found abbys to be the most intelligent and fesity ones! I'm really happy for you Jo, so glad you finally have your new little piggy family.
What lovely and unusual names too - where do they come from?

Thank you my very dear and much loved friends for all your kind words. We let them settle in for 24 hours before cuddling them and then last night it was just too hot. We had a little 10-minute cuddle and then we put them because we were hot so they must have been in their little long haired jackets. They are in a very roomy and cool hutch at the moment but we have remedied the pen situation by putting a smaller one with close-to bars in the big pen. It will be fine for now. I know Bean love, the little monkeys have already got one over on us lol! The names are from characters from Poldark. Demelza being Ross Poldark's wife and Prudie is their very funny and adorable servant. As soon as I can I will post some piccies but Demi moves like the wind, Prudie is much calmer.

Ah right, I've not seen Poldark so they weren't familiar, but I know you enjoy it so those are perfect names!
After you said you let Paul pick the names I started wondering if my husband even knows the names of ours, so I held up Josh and Rocky and asked him to tell me their names - after screwing his face up for a few seconds he said Josh and Cadbury (who I wouldn't be holding up together as they don't get along!). Next I picked up Poppy and Cadbury (Cadders) and he said they were Popsy and Flopsy?! At least they have the full attention of me and the kids, if not him!
Glad to hear the girl are settling in well, despite the heatwave. I hope you get some amazing cuddles soon!

LOL, Bean! Not important to him I let hubby pick the names for the girls, and I think it made a big difference in his level of involvement with them. I haven't seen Poldark in years, so I didn't make the connection. Love the names, though

Jo, I am so happy for you! This is great, great news. Abyssinians are definitely interesting- Deo was one, and he was a character. Can't wait to see pics!

Oh Bean hunni, I am sure he loves them even if their names escape him from time to time lol! Yes I think that piggles love, he as in love with them as I am. There is a new series of Poldark love but I donlt know if it will be shown in the states. it stars Aiden Turner who, as you might expect, is a bit of alright. Thank you Baz sweeetheart, as soon as I can get them to keep still I will take some piccies. I get the impression they are going to be little characters, I think Demi is going to be the little madam lol!

Aww it sounds like you are already having lots of fun with them!
I'm not sure my husband is too fussed for the pigs, but that's okay! He's always stepped up fantastically when I've been away, and does get worried about them if they're ill (kind of annoyingly so at times!). But if all is well, he's happy to leave them to the rest of us!

They are adorable Bean love but little Demi is very skittish. I am hoping that she will become less nervous as we go along. When they are sitting on me they do that tuneful, wittering chatting noise which, if I am mistaken, means they are happy. They are in a very roomy hutch at night with Holly and I in our burrow and during the day they are in a pen in the sitting room. I will keep you posted and I promise I will try and get some photos.

Thank you piggles love. I do hope they get used to me but it is difficult to know what to do. Some advice says handle as much as poss but I know they are babies and need their rest. They certainly have good appetites so that is a definite positive. At the moment they are having cuddles at night.

I think it's about what you feel comfortable doing. I have always picked up and handled my pigs from the very beginning. I know how to catch them without terrorizing them, but I also found some like to play "catch me," so I also obliged them I let them jump over my arm and run away, as if they had escaped. After a while, they stop and let me pick them up. I have found it helps a lot to have my hands going toward them at face level. When I had to reach in through a tiny door, with one hand, it wasn't great. Picking them up with one hand left arms and legs dangling, which they don't like. I took the top off that cage, but coming at them from above is what predators do, so they didn't like that, either. When I can reach my hand in at eye level, they will still run, but not out of fear. Do what you feel comfortable doing, and that's what you'll do best

Aww Jo I don't think you need to worry about tiring them out - I think the more you have them out, the quicker they get used to you. Sometimes new pigs have a shorter attention span, so getting them out frequently for short periods might work better than one long session. But just go with what you feel is best and if you want to get them out, just go for it - they have plenty of chances to rest!
Glad their appetites are good - that's a great sign they've settled in well. x

Thank you so much ladies for your kind words and I agree with you. At the moment they are in the living room pen and I have left some salad outside their house so they have to come out to get it. I know they love their food so it shouldn't be a problem. Paul catches them by putting a cuddle bag in front of them and of curse they run in but I think I will start handling them more as I am afraid that they always going to be like this and I just don't want that if it can be helped. I will keep you posted.

Oh it's so early, and they're so diddy that I really don't think it means anything if they're a bit shy now. I know you've had a few difficult experiences with pets recently, so are probably really anxious for this all to go smoothly. But it sounds to me like they're settling in really well, so just keep bothering them as much as you like! x

You are right Bean hunni, Jasmine still isn't friendly and I am thinking I am going to have bad luck with all my pets. They sat together on my lap last night and did their happy noise and I snuggled them into my neck. I must handle them during the day too but I cannot reach down and get them once they are in their pen in the sitting room, so it has to be when they come out of their home in my room. Thank you for your kind words Bean love and they send their love to their Auntie Bean Hugs JO xx
