I have a skinny pig who is about 5 months old I was wondering how everybody gives vitamin C to their little pig. Izzy is a very very picky eater she did take the vitamin C for me that the vet recommended but now she won't take it and she doesn't like the vitamin C treats. And she does not like to eat guinea pig food. I can get her to eat some vegetables she loves her garden mix and her Timmy hey and she likes cucumbers and carrots.

Hello and welcome You can try a few different things, but ultimately, she will only take what she likes. This is the GuineaLynx chart of vegetable and fruit nutritional values. The last column to the right show the amount of C. Remove any items that high doses of Calcium or Vitamin A,as those can cause other problems. That gives you a starting list. If you use citrus, give a small piece, perhaps a quarter of a regular segment of orange, or half of a Cutie, or other small ones, daily. Any more could cause mouth sores. My advise is to try all the foods you normally buy that contain C, rather than buying foods especially for her, only to learn that she won't eat it. The first item on the list is sprouted alfalfa seed, which is very inexpensive, and great in salads. If she doesn't like it, and you don't either, you're only out the cost of a container of sprouts. The C additive to the water has been pretty much ruled out due to too many pigs refusing to drink the water once the C is added, and to the fact that once that form of C leaves the container, it starts losing potency, so won't really offer the pigs much C, anyway. Also, the pellets contain C. If you buy Oxbow Cavy Cuisine, she should get a lot of the C she needs just from eating. Pellets also lose potency once brought out of the container, so only serve as many pellets as she can eat in one day, and keep the rest of pellets in an air tight container.

I buy the liquid Vitamin C and sprinkle a few drops on the lettuce I give my boys, and they never notice.

Baz, what brand of liquid C do you use? Never heard of it being dispensed that way, but if it works, it's a great option! Do you use the liquid that is supposed to go in the water?

I checked the bottle- Oasis Vita Drops. (Link)I guess it's supposed to be added to their water, but I've never done it; I don't want my guys to get dehydrated by thinking their water's funky-tasting. Oscar's always been a light drinker, and lately Murphy's slowly getting used to the idea of drinking from the tube. Their styles of drinking are so different; Oscar goes for long slurps, rattling the little ball for a minute at a time. Murphy on the other hand, sidles up to the tube, stares at it for a while, and then leans in and disconsolately takes a delicate nip. He'll pause, look at the tube again and MAYBE take one more small sip.

I love your descriptions of their actions, Baz I think one of my girls is a slurper, and one plays with the nozzle to make it leak. Not sure which is which, as the nozzles are under the lofts, so I can't see them drinking. I never thought to put a few drops on a veg or fruit, but if they'll take it that way, excellent!

I've never supplemented with Vitamin C. I've never thought it necessary as their pellets are fortified with it and they get a variety of fresh veg each day which contain it.
But if you have a picky eater, and are worried your piggy isn't getting enough from their diet, the drops on veg sound like a good idea. Young pigs, and especially lone pigs, can be much pickier eaters. Just keep on offering a variety of small amounts of veg and plain pellets and hopefully she will get a taste for the good stuff!

Same here. My pigs have all been great eaters, so getting enough C into them wasn't a problem. For picky eaters, though, it's nice to know there are some options.
