I have had my piggies now for one week. I will get pictures as soon as they settle in. Their names are Rain,Storm and Thunder.all boars. I bought them all at once from the same pet shop in the same cage. I figured that being in the same cage at the pet shop they became a herd already. Its funny they say you need as big of cage as possible I bought 2 that I put together they each are 2ft by 4ft. And now I am already looking at making them a bigger one. I have read alot about them watched youtube videos and now Iam here. Alittle about me I am 61yrs old I live in Las Vegas nv usa Thanks for reading.

Hello and welcome It's true that pigs will use as much space as you give them. Set them free to roam your house, and they will at least roam the whole level where their cage is. If you have a mansion, they would roam it Guinea pigs love to popcorn, which is sort of jumping into the air and twisting. Rabbits also do this. They also love to do zoomies, which is just working up a good head of steam, and running until they get it out of their systems. I think a bit too much emphasis is put on the square footage of a cage. The best cage has a good main level that will house different areas, such as a hay area, a couple of food/drink areas, room for at leat one pass-thru hidie they can sleep in and play through, and room to run zoomies, either around a big cage, or up and down a long cage. Guinea pigs need a lot of things to do that will keep them interested, challenge them, and make them feel fulfilled. Most store bought toys don't interest them, though once in a while they do. Things they can chew, play in, play through, move around the cage, etc., are their favorites. You can often get all of that in a good cardboard box. Cut a couple of window openings for light, and a door at each end, and stand back. My girls have moved their box all around the cage, have enough space for both of them to be in the box at the same time, love to chew on any of the available edges, and generally love having a cardboard box in their cage. If I don't have a cardboard box, I use plastic pigloos with a back door cut in each one. We used a Dremel Mototool to cut the back doors, but I've since learned that soaking the part we went to cut, in hot water, softens the plastic enough to use regular scissors to cut an opening. The girls pass through the pigloos, stop to take nap, move the pigloos all around the cage, and generally have a grand time with them. You will figure out what your boys want, how much more space they can use, if any, and what their favorite activities are. Just be willing to change some things to accommodate them. Going with cardboard boxes is an inexpensive way to learn what they like. I hope you and your boys have a wonderful forever home together, and can't wait to see pictures of them

Thanks for the welcome Cage size to me is they need the room for a feeding area (water bottle, pellet bowl, hay rack) an area they can pee in. Mine seam to mainly use one area for that. Sleep(hides) area and a play tunnel area. Its not so much the piggies taking up the room but all their stuff lol. I also have an area where they get veggies and more hay. This way if one tries to hog the hay they can go to the other hay. I have notice that Thunder is looking more and more like he is the dominant one.I went though all the good veggies to see what they like. And yes I made a list of them. It was funny I put two water bottles in their cage, and every day I would clean out both of them but they only use the one.

I love this forum because to me it shows that guinea pigs are not just for kids...as it's often advertised. Great starter pet etc. I got my first guinea pig when I was 39 and you're 61. I just think it's so awesome. You're going to love those little dudes :-). <3
