I think we mark time in ways we don't realize. A favorite TV show that's on Wednesday nights, the mail delivery we're expecting any day now,the end to an unwanted weather system, and a whole lot of other things are used to mark time, even when we're well past working, children in school, etc. We are constantly look forward to something expected, which makes time seem to pass more quickly. It doesn't, but the quick feeling is all that we didn't pay attention to along the way, and that feeling that it all ended too quickly to be real. The human brain is an interesting thing!
Warmish today, with temps possibly reaching the double digits, but plummeting again overnight, with temps staying in the minus to barely plus digits. We have First Night celebrations in a lot of cities, adn they are going to be brutally cold. The New England news channel announced that a lot of stores would be open through the midnight on New Year's Eve, so people could go inside and get warm. I imagine stores that sell such things will sell a lot of warm gloves, hats, scarves, etc., too, as it's going to be so much colder than a lot of people dress for. Monday is going to be bitterly cold, too, but there are going to be some warm ups after that, with at least one day getting into the low 30s. Right now it's 15F, but no wind, which is really nice! The wind chill was brutal a couple of days. Canadian Cavies hags also been posting, and she's been down as low as -22F. Brrr.
We're going to watch Boston's First Night on TV tomorrow night. We've watched Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve for decades, but it's gotten so talky, and I miss Dick Clark. Ryan Seacrest doesn't do it for me. It got to be an endurance just waiting for midnight. Might still be, but at least it won't be the same people asking the same questions of everyone standing around Times Square. Anyone have any New Year's Eve plans?
