My 2 new piggies (my first ever ones) Just brought them home They are apparently 12 weeks old. They are already making purring like noises at each other and one was trying to mount the other is that normal or no? Thank you

Aww aren't they gorgeous! Just double checking that you're 100% sure of the gender, and that they're the same?! Pet shops get it wrong surprisingly often! Have a look at this page, or see a vet for a quick check if you're in any doubt as they're at an age where they start multiplying very quickly! But yes, chasing each other, rumbling and mounting are all perfectly normal - it's how they work out who's boss, and moving to a new home can certainly set them off feeling the need to do it again, even if they're already bonded. This page is on introductions, but if you scroll down a little, there's a very useful guide to which behaviours are normal and which may indicate they're not getting on too well. But from what you said, there's nothing to be concerned about now. If they are both boys, they'll soon be approaching adolescence which can be a testing time. The more space they have during this time, the better their chances of staying well bonded.

They look very happy, and are gorgeous piggies They have some good space. You might want to make different feeding areas, housing areas, just put a water bottle and bowl in a couple of places, and a couple of houses or cardboard boxes for them to hide in. What usually happens is they travel from feeding area to feeding area, in and out of the different houses, and it helps keep them busy

They were just chasing round the cage and one jumping. They also squeak at each other. Do I need to worry at all?

All sounds normal to me! The jumping sounds like what we call popcorning, and is a sign of happiness and excitement!
I've moved this post from the Chatter Box to Meet the Pigs and merged it with your last post too. Most of us have one thread in this forum for any news and updates about our pigs - it makes it easier for everyone to keep up with our news and check up on what's going on. Hope that's okay? If you want to change the title of your thread, just edit the title in the first post.

Sounds good to me, too. Guinea pigs have a very extensive language, most of which they don't use around humans until they're sure the humans are okay. The love to play, especially in hay, and it sounds as if they were having a really great time. Expect to hear more different sounds from them, as they get used to being with you

Sounds like you're having fun keeping them amused! Mine love it when I stick some hay into the ends of the cardboard tubes, although they do sometimes get a bit carried away and boink each other on the nose with them!

I did try! The cage was smelling so I had to clean it so I figured I might as well entertain them a bit 😁 Thank you! I have given them things to do since I posted this You've given them the guinea pig equivalent of a theme park! You should have some really happy guinea pigs now!

I did try! The cage was smelling so I had to clean it so I figured I might as well entertain them a bit 😁 I keep my two guys separated, and I clean their cages twice a week. Just an FYI, don't use scented bedding- I was doing that to mask the smell, but the good people on this board recommended that unscented is better for the piggies.
My pigs also love cardboard, and it doesn't cost a thing!

I do spot cleans in between total cage cleans - just removing the obviously soiled bedding/ hay and adding a bit of fresh every day or two. We have four guinea pigs living in our living room, so I definitely don't want them honking the room out!
