Sorry, start again. I would rather be rich at my age than without it and you would be surprised how young that would make me feel. Megan may have worked for most of her life. As an actress however which pays well. They are only doing what decent parents would do in a family only they are getting praised for it. Anyway, I don't want to argue, I am not well enough or so inclined. We must agree to differ.

I understand what you mean, Jo. It's the nature of celebrity of any kind, that people comment and praise in their masses, whereas you can't do that for someone you don't know in any capacity, even if they're doing the same or something far more spectacular.
Mind you, the opposite is often true too - people criticising in their masses, and getting so angry with people for stupid mistakes we all make all the time. I can think of loads of really minor things I've said or done (or my friends have), that if I were famous and had people watching my every move, I'd be chastised for! I'll take the anonymity (and slacking) every time, thanks!

I agree that celebrities don't deserve any more consideration than anyone else, and possibly less than poor people who could really use a lot of donations to help with the cost of the new baby. But as Bean said, that seems to be the nature of the beast There also seems to be a mentality that, if you can't afford a baby, don't have one, so few people offering any assistance to those who really need it. Not at all fair, that's for sure, but the way it's always been.

It won't change the world, but they asked that instead of sending gifts for them and their baby, people donated to a few named charities supporting people with babies both in less advantaged countries and also in the UK and US.
They had an interview with a guy from one of the UK charities - they collect baby supplies and deliver boxes to new parents on low incomes who struggle to buy even the basics. He was delighted with all they'd already received a few hours in, and said it would make a massive difference to how many families they could help. But they'd had no heads up that they were going to do it, so it had been an extremely overwhelming and hectic day! He was definitely not complaining though!

I quite agree with you Bean sweetie, I will take the money and leave the fame thankyou. I agree Piggles love that it seems in human nature to adore people like the royals and it is never going to change but I could never be that way. There are people far more deserving out there. As you say, it is the nature of the beast but I will never understand it. I can see that gifts to the poor is a great way of channeling pressies sent to them for their baby. Seeing it do some people good and giving them such assistance I must admit I find uplifting. I just hate the whole privilege thing but as you say, it is human nature and it will not change.

Jo, I think there's an instinctive drive to better oneself, because those at the top always had the best. Somehow as we moved out of the wild, that desire to have more just to survive became a desire to just have more and more.
We tend to perceive people who have a lot as being successful, and envy them. It really doesn't matter if they're royalty. It matters that they have a lot more than we have, and we want that.
I think it's great to help the less fortunate, whatever the reason. I applaud them taking that stand 👍

Jo, I saw the picture of the new royal baby's feet being talked about on the news, and had a chuckle thinking of you ranting about he's not the first baby to have feet, and possibly even throwing a cushion at the tv?!

Soon they will be saying the royal baby has eyes! That’s how ridiculous this is! It’s no different from any other baby, rust that someday it might rule the world!

I think the only pictures so far have been of him sleeping, so I'm sure we're in for some news about his eyes!
Anyway, at least we use elections for the people who actually have power in our country. The royal family don't have much say in anything important anymore, which is good considering they haven't been chosen by the people they represent.

Enough baby chat Rocket update: only two plants have survived the potting. I think the others were too small when I put them in the soil. But fear not, I've got six more seeds germinating in a bag. I'll wait until they're bigger and stronger to give them a chance to survive. I've also tried to germinate some of last year's tomato seeds. No sign of life - Looks like a lost cause

How warm is it where the seeds are germinating? I've found they need a certain level of heat and moisture to survive. I keep my house generally too cold for even the adult veggie plants to survive. They may also need some trapped, moist air, which is how we got ours to germinate. We kept them warm and covered. Once they outgrew the height of the covers, we used plastic bottles with the bottoms cut off. The tops can be removed to allow excess moisture to escape, or kept on to provide the moisture they need. Good luck. Our's are doing okay, but if we don't get them outside soon, they'll take over the front hall. Peas and climbing beans need something to climb other then the people walking by! I do think royal everything is rather forced on us by the media. There have been so many gorgeous wedding gowns, beautiful babies and wonderful stories, that have nothing to do with being royal or rich, that I find pushing royalty or entertainment stars relationships, weddings, babies, divorces, or whatever to be extremely discriminatory. I understand there are people who are interested, but I'd rather see the news reports of the hubby who delivered his wife's baby on the roadside, with the help of emergency dispatch on the phone, because the baby decided to come then, period! Just my preference. We're supposed to get snow overnight tonight This is the first Spring in years when the temps didn't go from below freezing to the 80sF, overnight, and leave me wanting more cold weather. This isn't unusual. It's just so different from the weather of the last few years, that it really stands out. I doubt we'll get more than an inch, and it won't last, but it's still snow. The temps start to warm up next week, going into the 70sF for several days, so Summer is coming, but it's been nice to actually have a Spring for once!

I mentioned this in the April thread, but sooner or later that thread needs to end before it's June! Anyway, I came to a decision on my Halloween costume regarding the boots-I went out and bought a new pair of high, laced black combat boots. I was reading reviews of the costume boots and many people said that although they look great, they either fall apart fast or are uncomfortable to wear for long periods of time. They also all lack proper traction, and I always choose practicality over how snazzy it looks, so I'm breaking in a pair right now.
True, they should not have laces, but I'm not a purist when it comes to these things. It will look close enough. It would only matter if I wanted to join up with some official Star Wars groups and march in parades, but I have better things to do with my time.

Can't wait to see the finished costume. Are you going to be Harrison Fords stand-in No Han Solo for me- not this year anyway! (I was considering it, but I might wait a few more years and let my hair get a bit grayer so I can go as Han from the 2015 movie.)

Good luck. I'm germinating on a south-facing window sill, and it's very hot there, so no problems with the heat. I've wrapped the seeds in a damp kitchen towel, then placed everything inside an open sealable food bag. I can see condensation inside the bag, and the roots are growing. The biggest problem is my impatience! I'll try to give them more time in the bag to let the roots grow longer and stronger this time.

I'll try to remember to mention the unauthentic lacing when you post the pictures of your outfit!
But yes, comfort over getting a precise look every time - I think that every time I go somewhere where there are women tottering and stumbling about in ridiculous shoes that they can't wait to get off because they hurt!
Poor Shades wants his rocket NOW!
I've put a few more seeds out to germinate, and have noticed that my local conservation trust is having a plant sale at the weekend, so that'll do as a back up!

Shades, there are rooting mediums, usually powders, that really help with transplant shock, and might be just what you need to take the sprouts from the towel to the dirt. Calcium is a major help in rooting, as are magnesium, bone meal, and things like that.
