I'm hearing less talk from people about new year resolutions than I usually do this year, but am wondering if the swimming sessions I go to will be busier than normal this month!

We got to the pool as it opened, today, and there were already more people waiting than lanes. Not sure if it's a Monday spike, a January spike, what, but we'll continue to go at 11:50 a.m., as we have the rest of the day to ourselves. Going at 2 p.m., we wasted most of each swim day, three days a week, because we couldn't start any projects, in case we ran out of time and had to go swimming. Bean, I now know what you were talking about swimming in circles. We had 3 people in one lane, so we swam down one side, back up the other side. We have removable stairs going into the pool, which are nice for me, but with 3 people in our lane, and the stairs, it was ridiculous. I asked the lifeguard to remove the stairs, which they did. Then we had space for the 3 of us to swim in circles. Worked fine. The other three lanes only had one person in each, but those also filled up before we finished our laps. It might be a bit better after lunch, 1 p.m.-ish, but for now, we want to give this time a good try, and see how it goes. We have our Fitbits set to prompt us to walk 250 steps per hour. Since we're usually in the house, we have a set course we walk from one end of the house to the other, that works really well. Keeps the guinea pigs involved, too, as we walk past Pigloo City several times per walk. There are three women, all sisters, two of them twins, living across the street. Hubby jokes that, if they can see us walking, they must think we're nuts, especially when I'm pumping along with my walking weights, lol We also did several turns around and through the cars in the driveway, when we got the mail. Hope we're entertaining the neighbors, lol

Taking the Christmas tree down today. It survived. The cats weren't interested in climbing this year...

I'm hearing less talk from people about new year resolutions than I usually do this year, but am wondering if the swimming sessions I go to will be busier than normal this month! my resolution for this year is to extend my cooking skills beyond the basics - to understand about seasoning and what does and doesn't go together. And hopefully cook some tasty meals for the family. That's the hardest task!

Oh that sounds like a great resolution! I was looking at a recipe book the other day that had a list of complimentary seasonings for veg whether a squeeze of lemon or a few seeds or nuts sprinkled on. Some I knew and use, some I will probably try. And it reminds me that I need to reintroduce my efforts to try at least one new recipe a week.
We actually took our decorations down on New Year's Eve. Getting the tree into the living room had been a squeeze this year, and we had a bunch of people coming over which meant we needed more space for people. We all agreed it had done its bit and we'd happily reclaim the space. Starting the New Year with a tidy house pleased me!
3piggles, if your neighbours are like mine (we have a few elderly ones who like people watching and are always intrigued by changes in habits!) I'm sure they can't wait to see what you get up to next!

We will have to take the tree down by the end of the week and bring it to the collection area, from where it will be further recycled (either used for some wood products or for district heating). I urgently need the space in the living room for starting packing my suitcases. Usually the trees and decorations stay up until the 6th of January here, which marks the end of the Christmas period.
Hubby has been ill the whole weekend with high temperature. I had to call my mom and ask her what were the "old" treatments for fever (he reached 39.4C), because i already reached maximum dosage of paracetamol... Luckily i managed to bring it down, without having to call an ambulance. He will still be for a few days staying at home.
I make no resolutions. I have my goals on the long term and fighting hard to reach them. Shades, i like your resolution! I like spices a lot and i use them in higher quantities than what some recipes say.

I hope your hubby gets better soon, Amber. Sometimes the old remedies are better. My daughter has been sick, so I made a pot of chicken soup. It's our go to remedy, along with meds, of course Our decorations/tree are all down and put away. Hubby bought a new container for the tree, which I think would have taken a much bigger tree than ours, so he packed all the decorations in that one, huge container. Luckily, it was on wheels, so he managed to get it under the house by himself. No way it was going up on the loft in the shed, lol It was the size of a small whale We still have the decorations up on the front light post and the 4-way hanger with the bird food. Both sets of decorations are frozen into the snow, so they'll be up until spring, or the first major thaw. I read that Australia is finally getting some rain. I'm sure it's not enough, or soon enough, and more animals will die. Still, if there really is an end in sight for those fires, bring it on! When do you leave for Sweden, Amber?

Get well soon Amber's hubby! I hope he feels well enough so that you can have some quality time together before you head off. (Wasn't it Denmark?)
I have a birthday cake to make today and it's not going to be easy (for me anyway - it involves a bit of delicate fiddling around which is not my forte - I'm much happier with the baking side of things than the decorating) - wish me luck!

I'm not a fiddly baker, either. I can make basic things, very well in some cases, but if you want fancy, I'm not the person. I hope your cake comes out great

I don't think anyone will confuse it with a professional cake, but I was quite happy with it! Hopefully it'll amuse the recipient and also taste nice. Not only was I using a new recipe (my daughter's made it before, but I haven't), but the tins I used were loads bigger than the ones I usually use. It wasn't one of those no-brainer bakes and by the end of it I was quite relieved to tidy up the kitchen and get out of there!

Hubby is better, he will return to work tomorrow.
The preparations are going. Half of the couch in the living room is full with my stuff...blankets, pillows, bed sheets. Everything will need to be put I to vacuum bags and packed. On the administrative side, i am writing emails to clarify one particular step, that would be needed to be done in the first 5 days.. So far i haven't been so lucky. I ask them five questions and i get a short answer to just one of them. In parallel i am still applying to jobs, but no luck yet. I am starting to get really stressed about his whole move.
But, on the good side, my brother will be coming here to take care of our piggies while we are in Copenhagen busy with my move
PS: Yes, it's Denmark where I will move.

I hope you get your answers. Rather important, since you're moving in from abroad. It must seem strange, after being settled in that apartment, to now have all your stuff out so you can pack it. Are you going to send some things in advance, or actually carry them all with you? I guess you have to have a place to live and a job to send them ahead, right? Wow! I admire your ability to take on this challenge. Hopefully, you will get all you need and want to get from the college in Sweden Ooh, great that hubby is feeling better, and is well enough to return to work. Back to some semblance of normalcy. Did he ever get the last paper settled and published? Sorry if you told us, and I don't remember.

Glad the packing is coming along well. I'm sure the amount you have to sort out is overwhelming, but you're a very organised person, so I'm sure anything that's possible will get done! It's good hub can go over and help you settle in too. There are so many things that will be a lot easier to do once you're there if they haven't fallen into place before you leave.
That's nice your brother is coming over to pigsit too, and hopefully spend some time with you before you go. How did the pigsitter you had over Christmas work out?

Most likely i will need to send something via the post. But i am not a big fan of it...such packages can easily get heavy and i already had twice to carry over 20kg packages across Vienna and then into the 3rd floor, without an elevator. Yeah, for sending them i would need to have place to live, which i have already. But i also have to have my address registered. I am expecting now to get to have 3 big suitcases, each of them at least 20kg heavy. The amount of luggage is the reason why we will go via the train...a 20h train ride.
We don't have any news regarding hubby's paper. I suppose the reviewers were also on Christmas break. Hopefully we will get an answer soon.
Honestly, I was not really wow-ed by the lady that took care of the piggies over Christmas. (I suppose we also keep them in luxury). I mean, we got them back healthy, but there were some things that really bugged me. For example Cupcake lost 50g while she was there, Marchmallow lost 20g and only Pufu kept his weight. So, i am supposing some rang issues there. In addition, the piggies had only 1 big house for all of them and my piggies don't really like sharing. So, after a week at that lady they were absolutely terrified of any sound and movement. I would hire her again only if i have no other option.
