Glad you have a place to live, and can register your address. Does that require anything more than letting the postal service know you live at that address? I'm not sure what registering an address means. 20 hours is a long time, but it's also the last time you'll spend much time together for a long time. I hope it's an uneventful train ride, and the two of you arrive in good spirits. Did you know the lady would put all three pigs in the same house, or was that a surprise? I lost a pig because of the housing situation while boarding, so totally understand your concerns. Outside of the UK, I don't know of anyone with good boarding facilities, whom I know also loves pigs, and cares about their living conditions. Sadly, I don't live anywhere near them, either Do you have many choices for boarding the pigs?

I'm sorry you weren't completely happy with your pigsitter. Perhaps they're issues you could correct with a few more instructions like not taking out any hideys and specific measures for (more) food? My petsitter mainly looks after dogs and cats, but she does really care about looking after any animal well - she follows any instructions to the letter and is always asking if everything was okay, so I feel quite happy they're in safe hands.
Them being more skittish could just be the change in routine with not having anyone around a lot of the time. Just like they were when they moved to a different room. And changes in feeding routines (for example, mine go from twice a day to once a day while we're away) might explain some weight variance. Mind you, Pops put on weight last time we left her - and grew some hair back!
It would be hard for any of us to find someone who provided the exact same care as us, but you do want to feel they're healthy and happy. I hope you can find another option for another time if you don't feel things could be improved.

The problem with the registration of address it the one about which i was writing email and not really getting answers. I have no idea if i have to go to the local city council or the the central immigration center and what documents i need to bring. I also don't know if i really have to do it in the first 5 days after arrival or i have to do it later...
About the pigsitter...i saw on her page the inside enclosure, with that one bigger house, but i always thought that she had multiple ones. I suppose that for summer i will have to book her again, but bring two additional houses and a big willow bridge together with the pigs. In summer i would definitely not let them unsupervised in our apartment for 12 hours. It gets extremely hot inside and i would worry myself sick about them overheating. At that lady's house it's much cooler and they would be constantly checked.
In Vienna she would be the only sitter specialized on piggies and rabbits. The other two ones in Austria are 3-4h drive away from us and it really makes no sense.

Ah! I understand the problem with the address registration. I hope you get your answers, even if just so you know what to expect.
Heat is definitely a problem with animals, and I'm not sure I'd want to keep a dog or cat in a hot apartment, either. There are ways to create a cool space for them, or to provide cool for them in the cage, but it takes advanced planning. Even then, you'd probably worry about them.
Will you be home for the summers, or will go to school year round, until you finish?

If i keep my schedule planned as it is now, i would have July free. In June and August i have some intensive courses planned and in September the next semester would be starting. This makes July as my only free month. For now we are planning that he will come in July to Denmark and we visit the country, if we have the time & funds maybe even the Faeroe and/or Greenland.
I will be coming home for his Easter though, when i am having the vacation.

At least you're not going away indeterminately, with no idea when you'll see each other, again. It gives you something to look forward to.
The trip sounds great. Please post some pictures when you go 🤗

That's great you and hub have some time together booked in, Amber. Are you both okay with spending time apart or will it be a big adjustment?
It sounds like that lady might be okay with a few pointers about what didn't go perfectly last time. I totally understand about not wanting to leave them at home if your apartment gets hot. We don't tend to have that problem here thankfully, as the downstairs stays cooler - it's upstairs that can get really stuffy when it's hot.

I had to go to decaf coffee and tea, when I found I was allergic to caffeine. I still haven't stopped drinking it, though I don't drink anywhere nearly what I did when I made me sick

I cannot imagine my life without coffee. I would constantly suffer from headaches. @bean: It was, of course, extensively discussed between us. We tried also other options, but nothing worked. Neither of us is really happy about it (we are both clingy in our own ways), but it has to be. It's seen as an investment in our future. As possible academia people, living half a wold apart is always a possibility. It snowed here!! I am SO happy that i saw some snow. I was not sure if it will stay, since half an hour before it was raining. But we already have 1-1.5 cm of snow on the ground. And the snow would be perfect for either a snow man or some snow-ball fight; it sticks perfectly. Curious if it will snow the night through and how it will look tomorrow.

Beautiful I love snow. We're getting 4-8 inches starting in about an hour, so hubby will be outside shoveling and snow blowing tomorrow morning. I'm so glad you got to have some snow <3 We all do what we have to do to make our lives better. It's sad if two people who love each other have to be apart, but that happens, probably a lot. I'm glad you have a plans to reconnect regularly. I think that will make a big difference in how settled you feel. I had the opposite problem with caffeine, it not only gave me headaches, but dizziness, rapid heartbeat, and a whole lot of other problems. I used to practically drink a steady stream of it at work. Not good for me. Since I can have decaf, I get to drink coffee and tea, which I find comforting, so I'm not totally shut off from it

The snow melted completely during the following night. It is still cold, but not really any chance of snow. I packed everything what will be immediately needed... Except underwear. I forgot to pack even a single pair. I need now to unpack a bit and see where i can fit them... I realized last month already that i cannot attend a ball in Vienna before my departure. Hubby will attend one with his mom and aunt and will play the double-bass in the opening of another. Unfortunately, both balls are during my introduction week. Bummer! It was one of the things that i really, really wanted to do before my departure.

I'm sorry you can't attend the balls, but timing doesn't always work for us Can someone record some of it on their phone, and send it to you? I know that's not the same as being there, but at least you'll see it. Hehehe, that would not have been good arriving to find you had no underwear! I'm glad you noticed with, while you still had time to pack them I can't even imagine doing what you're doing. It's a great adventure, and also really scary. I hope everything goes wonderfully for you in Sweden!

She might have a great time if she goes there, but she'll be in the wrong country for her studies - it's Denmark!
That's a shame about the ball. I hope you get to go to another when you're back visiting sometime. And hurrah for having underwear! Hope the journey goes well and you start to feel settled in very soon.

Oh I do it with words sometimes! My son's in a funk band, but it took me a year of him being in it to stop calling it jazz band - it drove him nuts! I'd even pause before saying it, knowing I usually picked the wrong one, and being determined to get it right, but it'd plop out of my mouth yet again all the same! Anyway, I've got it nailed now!

Hehe, I always understood what you meant and I really didn't wanted to correct you We arrived yesterday to Copenhagen, after spending 3h in Hamburg visiting the city... After a good night sleep we feel a bit refreshed and started already doing some paperwork. It seems I don't have to register my address in the first 5 days. It will be done automatically when I apply for the EU residence permit. For that one I have 3 months time, but of course, the earliest, the better. I am now trying to see if the money that we have saved are enough to prove self-sufficiency. Today we will also pick up the key from the dorm and bring my stuff over.

shades, I was wondering what your perspective is on the coronavirus outbreak? There are an increasing number of unverified reports from people in China suggesting that the situation is much worse than is being reported to us, especially in relation to the number of fatalities. As the country isn't known for freedom and transparency in the media, I was wondering if there was anything in it, or if it's just the sort of panicking that people always do when something like this happens.
