That's a nuisance, I hope they get more supplies/ appointment availability soon so you can get booked in.
The NHS have opened up slots for over the 45s today, so that's my foot in the door, but that area of the website is currently 'experiencing technical difficulties' so I'll have another go later.

Gas is $2.51/gal here, but that varies by up to 15 cents depending on location within the state.
That's a pain about the vaccine appointment. That happened to us the first time.I got an appointment, but when Vic tried, they were all gone. He got one the next day. Turned out spouses could get vaccinated together, anyway, which we did. I knew some places were moving to Walmarts and CVSs, but I think the only places in NH using big chain pharmacies to dispense the vaccine are in the very rural areas. New Hampshire Motor Speedway has opened as a mass vaccine dispensing center several times, and I guess will continue to do that until everyone is vaccinated, or they have a race.
Hopefully Walgreens will get more vaccine, and have more appointments available.

Today was no less annoying; I figured there wouldn't really be any more opportunities, but gave it a shot anyway. Turns out, there appeared to be a few places that stated that they had appointments available, but as soon as I completed the walkthrough for eligibility, I was informed that there is nothing available at all. I don't know if the slots filled up as I was being led astray by their asinine questionnaire, or if the website was just poorly-updated in the first place! My mother sent me a link for some place for vaccines, but it clearly stated that if you were forwarded the link (as I was) then that disqualified you from receiving the vaccine from this particular place. I know she means well, buy my mother should have read the fine print more closely.

Sounds like you're getting some help that's proving anything but helpful! I hope getting booked it doesn't become a too much of a saga.

Is there a call-in number, or a place to comment. We went through the original CDC site, VIMS-I think it was, and answered all the questions, got approved, and got a number, etc. After that, we had to go to the state site, enter our information, and the available times came up. Just select one, and it was automatically assigned to me or Hubby. We got a page to printout with that screwy square that's supposed to contain all the necessary information.
The reason I mention this is a lot of people got confused by the questions on the CDC site, didn't understand why they then had to go to another site to get an appointment, didn't know what that square was all about, or why they should have it, etc. There was a state phone-in number with national guard members manning the phones, and answering all the questions. I guess, from the governor's briefings on TV, a lot of people called that number, were walked through the process by someone in the national guard, and got their appointments that way. Remember, we started with people over 65, many of whom aren't very computer savvy, and the governor wanted to get as many people vaccinated as possible, so the idea was to make it as easy as possible to register and get an appointment. It might be worth checking for an alternative to that appointment process.
That is maddening, especially since you can only do it in your free time, and that's not how you would use your free time, by choice.

It's become academic at this point- today at work they just announced that they'll be offering the Pfizer vaccine to employees on Friday and Saturday! I'm going to try to get it on Friday, but if the wait is long, I'll shoot for Saturday when I have time on my hands.
In retrospect, it's good I wasn't able to make an appointment if work was going to get me squared away!

Oh that's good news - it sounds like a much more straight-forward process than trying to book one on your own! Glad it's sorted.

That's excellent! We got the Pfizer vaccine, and had no side effects. The injection site is a bit sore at first, but nothing you can't forget about if you get busy. We had no problems with the second/booster shot, either.
I guess the Johnson&Johnson vaccine has been pulled in some places, NH for one. A few people got blood clots, and since it's not needed, the governor opted not to use J&J. I'm not sure which brand of vaccine the teachers have been getting, but it seems as if a lot of them are getting sick from it. Schools have been closed due to a lack of teachers, within 48 hours of the teachers getting the vaccine. They aren't getting the Pfizer vaccine, to maybe Moderna.
Also, three fully vaccinated people have gotten the virus, so the CDC was right in telling vaccinated people to continue to wear masks and social distance. Last summer, we went to a party at our daughters house, way out of our bubble, and we were the only two people wearing masks. The other finally told us they didn't have the virus, so take off our masks. I told hubby we aren't going to do that again, unless all chance of contracting the virus is gone. I think daughter forgets we're 30+ years older than she is, and a lot of their extended family is young enough to have babies, so way younger than we are. If they want to take the risk of catching the virus, that's fine, but we don't.
Also, I've read the mutations are effecting the younger people, not the older people, so perhaps daughter and extended family should be a bit more careful about not wearing masks. Being outdoors is one thing, but not when they're all sitting next to each other around a table.

Well, they messed it up. They announced that the vaccine would be available today, but when I looked around, I saw nothing. No crowds, no vans, no evidence of anything. I went to the administration building and made an inquiry, and they told me that now they are just trying to get a head count for who's interested. The problem with their approach is that you need to use your phone to scan some icon inside the building, and not everyone has a phone pass that allows them to take a phone into the building!
They did tell me that the new date is next Saturday on the 24th. Of course, since originally they had numerous times available over the course of two days, now it's going to be a few hours and that's it. It's now a hassle, but I also got a notification from my general practitioner's office that I can get the vaccine through them.
The only issue with that is I don't want to miss work, so a Saturday would be best. Right now I'll shoot for getting it through work, but if next Saturday is a bust, then I'll set up an appointment with my doctor's office.

If your doctor has evening or Saturday hours, it might be worth it just to go through him and get it done. If you get the Pfizer vaccine, you have to wait at the vaccination center for 15 minutes, to make sure you don't have any side effects that might prevent you from being able to get home. Not sure about the others. What happened with us was we arrived at a place with a snake line, like Disney World has, to accommodate a lot of people. First we waited in one line to get through the registration process, and as a spot opened, the next person(s) in line went through that process. Once we got our paperwork, we joined a really long line snaking along until we got to where all the curtain cubicles were set up to dispense the shots. Once we got the shot, we were sent to a large area with chairs, and told to wait 15 minutes before leaving. After that, we could go about our business. That's why it might just be easier to make an appointment with the doctor, go, get the shot, wait in a semi comfy chair for 15 minutes, and you're done. You'll also need to repeat the whole performance in a month, for the booster. I am so glad to hear from you. The mass shooting at FedEx made me really worry about you at UPS

I am so glad to hear from you. The mass shooting at FedEx made me really worry about you at UPS I appreciate the concern. Security at UPS is fairly tight; they have those "no guns allowed" stickers on the windows. Okay, they have more than just that, actually. You can't get in the building without an electronic pass, for starters. Scaling the high fences isn't a great option, as there are cameras everywhere and a long distance from the fences to the main complex. Even getting in with a pass (if you were a disgruntled employee) means going through a metal detector and a half-dozen guards there. I'm more concerned about Vicki's school than my workplace.

We're getting quite a lot of coverage of all the shootings over here. It's hard to see how the situation with the police can be reconciled so people trust them.
Sorry the jabbing didn't go to plan, Baz - it doesn't sound like much of a plan to get a reading of interest if people have to go looking to find out how to express interest. I hope one way or another, you get vaccinated soon, and that organising it doesn't take up too much of your time.

The situation with the police can't be resolved, until the police are held accountable. I've said this before, but the law in NH, and I think in general, is lethal force is only used to combat lethal force. The police are murdering unarmed black men and boys. It doesn't matter if the black person was a criminal, what kind of criminal, how bad a criminal. It only matters if the person murdered had lethal force to use against the police, and none of them have. Even in cases where the person in question has some form of lethal force, say a knife or club, tasering him stops him from using that weapon, and doesn't kill him. The last white cop killing a black man claimed she was reaching for her taser, and got her gun by mistake. I'm sorry, but that's ludicrous. If she pulled out her gun, she should have stopped to point the weapon at the boy, and if she'd done that, would have realized it was the wrong weapon. The police have made, and gotten away with, excuses for murdering black people, for so long, even when there's video evidence the incident didn't happen that way, it's hard to believe anything the police say, or hard for black people to trust any police, anywhere. That, of course, causes more problems, as the police expect to be obeyed when they tell someone to stop, so if that person runs, because he or she is terrified of being murdered by the police, the police take that as a sign of guilt, and proceed to shoot the person anyway. It's out of control, as are the mass shootings. The republicans will never pass a bill to limit gun access, and even if they did, it wouldn't stop all the people who already have guns, nor would it stop people from stealing the guns of those who already have guns. There are so many guns available, there's really no stopping the slaughter. We need more than gun control. I have two guns, and I don't shoot anymore. Eyes and hands don't work well enough. I just don't want to sell them, and put them out there for some Trumpfk to buy. Lesley's husband, Jay, got an AK47 from his son for his birthday one year. Why does anyone need an AK47? Why does anyone need a sniper rifle? Why does anyone need anything more than is needed to murder wild animals for fun, and to defend your home? Yet somehow the original founding fathers, who had no army when they wrote it, putting in the constitution that was have the right to bear arms and form militias to defend out country, has come down to anyone can own a gun for any reason No idea how to stop it. None at all

That's a serious bit of kit to give a young adult - do people usually have them for defence or is it more of a hobby to go and try to pick off some wild animals?
If you have guns at home, are there laws about keeping them locked up/ secure etc, or can you just keep how you like? I've heard many stories of accidental shootings too, especially if kids get hold of them. It probably varies from state to state.
Have the recent police shootings ended the careers of the officers responsible? I was just wondering if it was still realistic to think an officer shooting someone in these kind of unjustifiable circumstances would get away with it. I hope the increased transparency and accountability with bodycam footage stops corrupt officers being able to cover for one another.

I've heard many stories of accidental shootings too, especially if kids get hold of them. It probably varies from state to state. It may vary as per state, but I think for the most part people can store them any way they wish. A "cold" storage is a gun locked away with no ammo. A "hot" storage would be a weapon ready for home defense and easily accessible. If people took the time to make themselves knowledgeable about how to safely store a firearm (this includes training their children, if any), we wouldn't have so many "accidents". But, people are idiots.

I just don't understand why people want to have them in the first place, but if you've grown up in a country where people don't tend to have them and you hear many stories of accidental deaths/ murders/ shootings from some countries that do, nothing really sells the idea to you!

It's totally a state by state issue. I'm from Massachusetts, where I bought my first guns, and shot competitively with a gun club. I had to get background checks, fingerprinted, register all the firearms, etc. Then I moved to NH, and I don't need a license to carry a gun, as long as it's not concealed. I need a license to carry a concealed weapon, or to buy ammunition. So Trumpfks strut around with guns strapped to their waistbands, like John Wayne about to take on some stage coach robbers. Sorry, you walk into a store I'm in, and I see you're wearing a gun, I'm out of there. It's not cool. It doesn't make you important. It's not a great talking point. It's freaking overkill! Most people who have guns for home defense keep them loaded and in a secure but easily accessible by them, place. California requires all guns to be locked in a gun safe. Most collectors have gun safes, or secure rooms for the guns, as hitting a collectors house is a great way to get a whole lot of guns for very little effort. People who have guns like AK47s have them as collectors, or because they think it's cool to have one, as if they can shoot it in very many places. Where we lived when I first joined cavy forums, we were near a gravel pit that was used by machine gun enthusiasts on Saturdays. Sounded like WWII, and I'm sure unnerved quite a few people. There was also a rod and gun club just down the street from us that shot outdoor competitions on Saturdays, and again, WWII. The club I belonged to was indoors, as were all the clubs we shot against, though some of the other clubs had outdoor ranges, as well. There are too many unaccounted for guns in the US, and they are a huge problem. They're sold on the black market, which is usually out of someone car trunk, lower priced than if purchased in a store, and often with a violent history. Gangs have not shortage of guns, nor do our alleged militia groups, who are nothing but domestic terrorists. We have gun laws requiring waiting periods for background checks, but the police are so backed up, they often don't get to the background checks for months, and once the 5-day waiting period expires, you get the gun, background check or no background check. Gun shows that move from city to city are exempt from the waiting period and background checks, so guess where most of the crazies get their guns! The republicans have stopped any attempts to close the gun law loopholes, as if guns are a necessity, and people will die if they can't get their guns. No, people might live if they can't get their guns. It's so screwed up

I got tired of trying to figure out how to get the vaccine through work, and went back to www.vaccinefinder.org instead. I did try my link to my health care provider, but they wanted to send me an hour away into somewhere in the city. Fortunately, I got an appointment scheduled for this Saturday at a local Osco pharmacy. I'm uncertain which vaccine is available; the place I looked at seemed to have only the Johnson & Johnson available, but I am scheduled for "the first of two shots required", so I'm hoping for the Pfizer if I can get it. We'll see what happens.

I'm glad you've got an appointment. The main one used of here (but I don't think it's been licensed over there yet) is the Oxford AZ one and that's been linked with rare blood clots, but the minute odds of being affected (so much less risk than hundreds of things we do every day) don't seem to be putting people off getting vaccinated.
I can understand the sport element of shooting, if it's at targets rather than animals. But I totally agree that someone walking around with a gun on show is trying to prove something, and to most intelligent people that something would be that they're an idiot.

For the gun toting population, I think they relate their value to society with the gun. I don't get that, but guns mean power to some people, and if they're people who have no power, then showing up with a gun makes they think they have power. It may intimidate some people, but it certainly doesn't get them any respect.
I shot round paper targets for points. That was the whole point. The person who was the best shot got the most points. I wasn't that person, but I was still very good. I never even shot an animal or human paper target. I have no desire to shoot either, in paper or real life. I just wanted to be the best shot I could be, and we had some great people in our club, so I enjoyed getting together with them for practice or competitions.
You've probably heard, but the Minneapolis Police officer who knelt on George Floyd's neck until he suffocated, was convicted of both charges. White cops murdering unarmed black men simply replaced lynching, when that was ruled a criminal offense. White cops have been beating and murdering black men for decades, and getting away with it by claiming they feared for their lives. As long as white courts and white judges let them get away with using that excuse, they could murder anyone they wanted to, and they did. I think this outcome finally sets a new precedent that police will be held accountable for their actions, so they had better think twice. It also sends a message to all police departments/chiefs/commissioners that officers had better be trained better, or the officers and the departments are going to be in big legal trouble. It's 100 years overdue, but better than nothing. At least George Floyd's family gets some justice.
I thought the Johnson and Johnson vaccine was one shot, so hopefully getting "the first" shot means you'll get Pfizer, Baz. The Johnson and Johnson vaccine has been linked to severe side effects that are basically flu-like, in a fairly large percentage of the people who got it, so I hope you don't get that one. Moderna is the other one, and I don't know anything about it.
