I'm glad he already has a job in music, and had a chance to get the exposure of being on Eurovision. Sometimes the competitors who don't win go further in the business than those who do win. Somewhat related- a few years ago an acquaintance on another message board took a short video of a rabbit in his yard and posted it to YouTube; he was soon contacted by someone connected to one of those "funniest home videos" programs and was paid for the use of his footage. He later commented that although the money wasn't a huge amount, he still gets an occasional check in the mail from residuals. The point is, here's a guy with no film training whatsoever is technically a more successful filmmaker than I am, as his one vid has been seen by millions and he's made money off it. Sometimes Lady Luck just smiles on some, while others never get a break.

That's certainly true! Add in the 'it's who you know' component and it's certainly not the case that talent alone determines success.
For me it cements why it's important to enjoy the process of doing something you're passionate about, rather than just having an end result in mind, and being disappointed/ considering it failure if you don't ever get there. Our Eurovision chap certainly embodied that ethos!

I think any form of art is like that. It's all about what's popular right now. I watch your videos for the composition and lines, but most people want cute, baby animals. Make a kung fu video where a baby bunny sits in the middle of a major melee, and doesn't get hurt, and it will be a hit on YouTube! TikTok-I rest my case!
