I think this is the latest started monthly thread we've had for a while! I'm too late to wish anyone a Happy Chinese New Year, and also missed Groundhog Day. Shrove Tuesday is on the 1st of March this year too, that most often falls in February. So just Valentines Day to mark?!

We had to return our Hertz rental car back to the shop because the insurance company has a working deal with Enterprise. The Enterprise shop is way closer to our house, anyway (20 minutes closer!) but my wife was looking for a better deal.
The old car was a Toyota Celica, which rode fine. Not the greatest, but serviceable for my needs. The new rental is a Chevy Impala, and although it's a newer car, I dislike it for one simple reason: no CD player! There aren't many stations I listen to anymore, so I find myself riding in silence if I can't find a decent tune for a few minutes.

We have no CD player in our car either, but then again, we have no CDs anyway, so it doesn't matter to us! (We copied all our CDs onto a hard drive as we use a music system with linked speakers in each room). My husband has a ton of music on his phone so just plugs that it for music or streaming podcasts etc.
Maybe next time the radio doesn't oblige, you could have a jolly good singsong?! Hope you don't have too much longer to wait until you can get your own car back.

This is why you never saw me attempt a music career. I know some car setups have a memory stick plug so people can carry a collection. I don't know if this car has one; I'll take a look when I get a chance. The car is gone for the weekend; my wife & daughter are using it to attend a volleyball tournament in Wisconsin and I didn't want them to use my wife's car and put mileage on it, as it needs some repairs as well. It's good for short hops, but an extended drive lasting hours is not recommended. I still burn CDs; it's one of the great joys in my life being able to compile 80 minutes of tunes at a time.

I haven't seen a new car with a CD player in years. I think that might be a special order item. Rental car places won't have anything that might lead to customers leaving their CDs in the car and needing them sent back at the company's expense. I don't blame your wife for looking for the best deal, but if you buy insurance with a rental car clause, they have agreements with a certain company, and you have to rent your car from one of those companies. Around here it's just $X/day for rental, as we are so far from any national rental chain. As long as you have wheels, you'll have to wait for you car to be fixed. Then you can play all the CDs you want

Oh now I really want to hear Baz sing!
I used to love crafting compilations to listen to while I was travelling, so I get it, even though I'm lazier in how I listen to music now! I have numerous playlists and just pick one to shuffle, forwarding anything I'm not in the right mood to listen to.

Ugh, I CANNOT wait for my car to get repaired. The rental car is killing me with its lack of amenities; I tried to plug in a memory stick loaded with about 30 minutes of music and nothing happened. I don't know what I need to do to get it working, but I just rely on the radio.
The problem with that is the radio cannot seem to find a particular station. There's one that I prefer to hear, and the numbers are 87.7- it's the old MeTV station that plays music from the 60's, 70's and 80's. Whenever I do a search, the radio goes down as far as 88, and then circles back to 108. It can't find the station! There's another oldies station I can turn on, but it varies between old stuff I don't mind, and then very new stuff like Bruno Mars. I think Bruno Mars is new, but in any case I am not the target audience for his music.
Otherwise I just drive in silence, and it makes the 17 minute trip seem like an hour.

Music is great for punctuating daily tasks with a little jolliness, and I'm guessing on the way to work, you'd much rather be enjoying a good tune than sitting quietly contemplating your day at work! Hope it gets fixed soon - have they given you any idea when it might be?

I like Bruno Mars I also like someone called The Weekend. I don't listen to their music often, but when I do hear it, I enjoy it. I'd rather have Tom Petty Running Down a Dream, but that's not always possible I wonder if the car rental company makes the cars as basic as possible to make sure they get returned The rental cars I've had were usually higher end than my regular car Since I have a Harmon Kardon sound system in the Soul, I don't think that will be the case with my next rental car.

It's going to be at least another week. I suppose there are far worse things that could be happening; it's just that this is just so little to ask (at least as far as I am concerned) that it's a hassle. I must admit, I am tired of hearing everything on the radio nowadays. I've been hearing most of it for decades, and it's lost its luster. I want to hear new music, or at least older music that I missed the first time around. I've been spending my internet time finding retro 80's channels on YouTube and exploring them with great interest. There's dozens and dozens of albums I've never heard before, or heard one song from and now I want to hear the rest that never got radio play. 3piggles, I've heard of Vampire Weekend, but not The Weekend.

This is The Weekend. I date back to soul, to Smoky Robinson, Ottis Redding on the Dock of the Bay, and the Marvin Gay hearing it through the grapevine. Then all blacks and some white went to rap. Now they're going back to music. That's part of why I like Bruno Mars. He can and does sing. It's just nice to see them heading back that way I know what you mean about the radio. Not only do they play the same 20 songs over and over, but the stations are so specific about their music now, if they're country, that's all they play, etc. Finding a station that plays a decent mix is almost impossible, and I'm not going to pay for I Heart Radio. I only listen when I'm alone in the car, and I'm not very often. When I am, I find a 70s/80s/90s station and sing along to the music. Bean, the Barbie Benton song was about drivers around her looking at her as if she were talking to herself, when she was singing along to the music I like some rap; I just don't like a lot of it at a time. It reminds me of Green Day, a band my daughter loved. I couldn't tell when one of their songs ended and the next one started. It all just runs together for me, which could be part of my ADHD inability to pay close attention to things that don't REALLY hold my attention.

I can hear samples from Tears for Fears' "Pale Shelter" in that song. Another thing about radio that irks me to no end is that although a band may have 5 or 6 hits throughout their career, a station will only play their biggest hit. The band The Fixx from the 80's is a good example- no station ever plays any other song from them other than "One Thing Leads To Another." I actually enjoyed rap back around the mid 80's, when it was self-deprecating and the songs were not only funny, they were usually about mundane things like basketball (Kurtis Blow), or just food (The Fat Boys)

I probably like a lot more rap music than you two, but not not the really heavy stuff, I like a good tune in there too. I also like how rap pops into lots of other genres of music, for example this.
Baz, now you've mentioned Kurtis Blow, I know this day won't pass without me putting some of his tunes on (especially The Breaks)!
I'd not heard of The Weeknd either. I know what you mean about his music reminding you of Bruno Mars.

Have to post some Bruno Mars I love the Bruno Mars video with the tape playing such a great role. I also like the She Said video. There were things happening I had to watch for. I like rap incorporated in regular music. I think, if done well, it makes both the rap and the other music more interesting. I also loved DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince rapping about going back-to-school clothes shopping with mom, and having her get all the horrible, easy-care clothes, and nothing at all cool. I got hand-me-downs, so I know about starting each school year with nothing cool or fashionable, though I was the first girl in the Kelly School to wear tights Love them. No more knee socks constantly falling down, despite being held up by elastics! I can relate, lol I also liked a rap group called Arrested Development. When rap went to Gangsta, to killing police, raping women or at least taking whatever they wanted from women, then walking away from all responsibility, and young boys were rapping about that, I got totally turned off. I like Ice-T and Ice Cube as actors, but never liked their music. I love Snoop Dogg, especially when he and Martha Stewart get together. They play off each other like a top-notch comedy act.

I remember Arrested Development - especially Mr Wendal. I'll stand up in defence of Ice Cube though, as Check Yo Self is one of my favourite tracks (it samples The Message by Grandmaster Flash - another favourite of mine). Some of the lyrics are dicey, but it makes me laugh!
I've not seen that Bruno Mars video before - great idea with the tape art!

Went to comic con yesterday that was a fun day. It was my 2nd time going. I really enjoyed it even though you do get nervous. Haven’t really been up to much else as the storm ruined plans on the 19th. But on the posture side at least it didn’t affect comic con.

If you posted it after the 15th then it would be too late. Your Chinese animal is probably a pig. Also what’s Groundhog Day? Sounds like it’s a day to celebrate animals that live On/In the ground .
