Hi, I have a question about one of my GP girls, Sybil. I did her first health check today and I'm a little concerned about a couple of areas -- one of her feet and ears. Please see pics. The photo doesn't quite show it accurately, but there's an area of her foot that's more pink. Not red, just noticeably pinker. Is this a worry? She's had this darker lining to the edge of her ears since I got her (from a rescue run by a vet) but today I noticed two tiny holes in her ear too -- the photo shows one hole and the other is marked with the second arrow, though not visible. it's the same size as the one you can see. I'm a new owner so may just be being paranoid, but I'd really love some reassurance. Thanks, Fran

Aww Sybil is gorgeous!
I'm wondering if you got her from a breeder, as the hole I can see looks like it might have been made by an ear tag (which breeders use to distinguish stock). If so, now that it's healed, it won't bother her (of course it would have done when it was done), and the hole doesn't look big enough to get caught on anything. So I don't think you need to worry about that. The skin looks healthy.
Her foot looks okay to me too. In lighter footed pigs, I do notice some colour variation, probably related to which parts of the foot have the most pressure on them and how much soft tissue there is. If it becomes really red or swollen then I'd get it checked out, but I certainly wouldn't be worried based on what I can see in that photo.
Congratulations on your new additions and please feel free to ask away if you have any other questions or concerns - we've all been there as new owners!

Thanks both! That's very reassuring. They are both absolutely beautiful. Will post pics of them both at some point my other girl is called Jovie. I actually got them from a local rescue, but no idea where she came from prior. I hate the thought of her ear being tagged, but glad it looks healed and won't be bothering her now.

Rescues often mop up after breeders, so it could still be that. Also, people who show their guinea pigs have them tagged, so that's another explanation, if it is indeed a tagging scar.
Anyway, it certainly won't bother her now, and I shall look forward to more pictures of both the girls!
