Welcome to autumn, meteorologically speaking anyway. I'm waiting until the equinox to count it though! Especially as we've just had a few days at the seaside to end the summer holidays, complete with sunshine (never a guarantee over here!).

I should have started this thread, since I was thinking about it. Not sure what happened to that thought We haven't had the Autumn equinox, but we have had catalogues for Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas. I'm surprise they aren't asking us to lock in a price for corned beef in March. The flyers come earlier every year! We are in our Labor Day Weekend, so most offices/schools are closed Monday. Not supposed to be a good day, rainy, but not sure it's supposed to be a complete washout. We got the laundry done and hung out yesterday and today, so it can rain all it wants tomorrow. Rain's supposed to start, here, around 7 tonight. We've gotten almost 2" in the last 10 days, so hopefully we'll get more.

I was rolling my eyes at a Christmas display I saw in a supermarket while we were away. One of the members of staff caught me at it, so we had a silly conversation about how 'It's right around the corner, you know!' and 'Blink and you'll miss it!'.
We're finally getting some rain. Looks quite patchy, but over the course of this week, my lawn may well be restored to a luscious green.

It's not just around the corner, blink or you'll miss it. We have other hols to get through before that, and each deserves its own time. We're doing Labor Day cookouts/family gatherings/firewords (if the weather permitted), not getting ready for Halloween. I will also get ready for Halloween long before I order something for Christmas. As for foods, the special holiday foods get cheaper the closer we get to the holiday, so I'm not going to order food for Thanksgiving or Christmas now, only to have them go on sale for half off the week before each holiday.
Retailers want you to be spending money now, and spending money later. Can't blame them. Us spending money is how they stay in business. I found in retail there are times to buy, not too early and not too late. Now is way before too early!

We were joking about it being just around the corner and passing quickly - we amused each other anyway!

Humor is probably the best remedy for all this holiday hype We have a bit over 2" of rain after a full day(24 hours) of rain. It's not raining is heavily, but it's still a steady, lite rain

Found the lost clippers under some heavy foliage. Also, I realized I didn't need to buy a new set of clippers, because as I was finishing some yard work today I was holding a pair I realized I had bought a while back! They looked a lot like the new pair, although slightly smaller. The new ones can cut a branch 1" thick, while the older ones probably are limited to 3/4".
Oh, well- I suppose I'll be all set for clippers for years now.

They turned up already? I thought it'd be a few months yet! Funny you already had some spares too, and so similar your recent replacements - hope you didn't get confused when you found them and think they'd shrunk/ you'd grown.

I thought it would take longer, too. Glad you found them. Yes, you are all set for clippers for a while

With a little luck, I might take a brief trip to Wisconsin with my buddy Ken. He just lost his pet dog Lara after 16 long years (she had to be put down, as she was starting to suffer from kidney disease.) and is on a bit of a living-life-to-the-fullest kick. Now that he has no pets to watch over (he had three dogs for years) he's going skydiving this weekend, and wants to try ziplining next. I recommended Wisconsin for a short trip to do it, and there should be three of us doing the course next weekend. I've done this course before, but I'm out of shape and out of practice. I'll be aching the day after, but then again... that's nothing I'm not used to now.

That sounds fun, a good way to blow all the cobwebs away from the stuff that's pulling you down at the moment. And what a novelty to ache from something you've enjoyed doing rather than just work!

Aching from having fun is totally different from aching from working too hard I hope you get to go, and have a great time! I think you really need the time away, time with friends, time doing things you think are fun, etc. Excellent I have no idea what the rest of September will be like, but starting Monday we're cooking for daughter and family, as she's getting a hysterectomy on Wednesday. We have her NuWave pressure cooker, which she was having trouble getting to work, so we're making the marinara sauce and chicken rice soup recipes from the cookbook that came with the cooker. I'm also making my famous mac and cheese, which is only cooked elbow macaroni with melted Velveeta (processed) cheese and a splop of Worcestershire sauce. I crush up potato chips from the bottom of the bag, and spread them over the top. Everyone loves it, and it's so ridiculously easy. No pressure cooker involved We're having warm but dry air for several days, which is a nice break from the humid heat of August, and the more than 2" of rain we got last week. Nice stretch of weather

Hope everything goes smoothly with your daughter's op, and that's great you can help them out with some cooking - I'm sure that will be much appreciated.

I hope so, but it won't really be on me, if it's not. Since we're making recipes from the booklet that came with her multicooker, they can blame NuWave if they don't like the recipes I'm sure they'll be very acceptable recipes, and if she really wants my chicken soup, I can make some and take it down to her I have all digits crossed for the surgery to go off without a hitch! Best case scenario, and all that

We got the food down to her, two dishes made using her NuWave Multicooker. I wrote a cheat sheet for her to skim quickly to make sure she had everything set right. Hopefully she'll be a le to use it with no trouble, once she's recovered enough. We're keeping all digits crossed for her to be able to come home after surgery, tomorrow. She might have to stay overnight and come home Friday. Nothing to do now except wait for word.

I will keep everything crossed here. I'm sure your daughter has been more than happy to allow you to help with the cooking for while she recovers, and for as long as she can get away with it!
