Happy New Year to everyone! Hope it's a good one for us all, and that things go as smoothly as they can for anyone going through more challenging times at the moment.

We took down the festive decorations yesterday. It's good to get it done before we all go back to our usual routines with work and school. I love having the decorations up, but the room always looks much bigger and cleaner with everything gone, so it's a win-win situation!

I always liked having fairy lights around the windows, lighted at night for a little ambience. Hubby always complained about them costing so much to run, like all of $1/year. He took down all the decorations and put everything away, yesterday. Then I realized the lights were still up around windows. He didn't forget them. He just thought they looked nice, and would be nice to have up for the winter. Sigh, I will never understand that man I do like having those lights up for the winter, though. It's a nice change from general darkness.

This is not Amazon's week. They lost a package of mine (no big deal, it was just socks) and delivered someone else's package earlier this week- so I went and delivered the wrong box to the correct address (it was literally across the street)
Today they left several packages belonging to someone else on my porch- This house was down the block, and I did try to ring the bell to let them know, but I heard someone yelling and dogs barking, so I left them there. It's Amazon's problem, anyway.

That's good of you to deliver the other people's packages (maybe someone will do the same with your socks?), but I hope the halfwit they seem to have on your route doesn't start thinking he can just dump it all at yours and have you distribute it for him!
We once ordered a rather expensive speaker for our home sound system, and were eagerly awaiting its arrival. Then they (not Amazon) told us it had been delivered to our address. No it hadn't! It took a while for them to realise they'd delivered it to the same house number on the next street - we have the same postcode. An elderly lady lives there, so had accepted it wondering what it was and then not had any clue what to do with it and wasn't up to wandering round the streets with it. All sorted in the end!

We had the problem with deliveries to the wrong houses, but always ours to someone else's house. The UPS driver told us it was because of the house numbers. I think the house before us is 22, and after us is 30, and ours is 28. I actually watched an Amazon driver wandering up and down in front of our house wondering why there was a mailbox for 28, but they couldn't find the house. The house number is by the front door, duh! I really wanted to go out and explain the complexity of counting house numbers to him I hope you have a better week with Amazon, next week!

I really must have been tired last night- I went to bed around 9pm, woke up around 1:45 (already more than half of what I need) fell back to sleep after maybe an hour of ruminating about stuff in general, and finally woke up close to 7am!
It almost felt like the morning was wasted! I got up immediately to take care of things.

Time allowing your body to rest, recover and relax is never wasted - I'm glad you had a great sleep!

Well, this morning I woke up around 4:30, and just decided to stay in bed for an extra 45 minutes. Might as well enjoy resting if I can't fall back to sleep.

Sometimes I stay in bed for a few minutes after my lights come on, as I'm usually awake by then, anyway. I just don't feel like hopping out of bed and getting started quite yet.
I think you needed the sleep, and it's just as well you got it.

The furnace conked out this morning about 10 minutes before I needed to leave for work! Luckily, it was an easy fix for me. Just needed to remove the flame sensor and give it a vigorous scrubbing with sandpaper, reinstall it and voila! Back in action! I'm glad it went out when it did- any later and no one would have noticed it until they woke up, which would have been 2-3 hours later and our pipes could have frozen! I was feeding the guys when it made a weird sound and stopped completely. Checking on it, I saw the warning lights flashing and hoped it wasn't anything serious. We do have a tech scheduled to come in Thursday for a general maintenance checkup, but this will be far cheaper than an emergency call.

Handy that you were there to notice and be able to sort it! I've got someone coming to fix my washing machine this morning - looks like yesterday was a day for breakdowns! Oh and I got some new towels last week - how could I resist?!

I guess Aldi's and other places have everything from coffee mugs to sheets to you name it in guinea pig. I wish guinea pigs were as popular over here as they are over there. Nice towels <3
I'm glad you could fix the furnace. It helps to be handy about certain things, as it really does save you a lot in emergency repair calls. I hope any other work that's needed isn't too expensive!
We'll be refilling the two cabin feeders in the backyard feeding station every night, as we probably won't get outside in the bitter cold really early, and we want the critters to have the food they need to fight the cold. We'll put out extra seed, too. We put out less when it's warm, and more when it's cold. I've noticed, when it's cold, all the birds stop at the suet feeders, not just the woodpeckers.
