Slightly late, but no matter.
In a few weeks I'll be entering the busy season at work, where ten-hour shifts and Saturdays are mandatory. It is supposed to last until February. It's going to be a grind, getting up at insane hours again and not having any free time for a few months. Still, I've been here before.
The only worry I have is that they say there might be twelve-hour shifts coming up. I really don't want to work 72 hours a week, even for a few months. Life is too short to be doing that.

Oh that's a bummer, but it's good you're generally happy there - doing those hours when you hate the job is especially crushing. Are you feeling up to stepping up the pace recovery-wise?

Oh that's a bummer, but it's good you're generally happy there - doing those hours when you hate the job is especially crushing. Are you feeling up to stepping up the pace recovery-wise? The only thing that's come up is that they want me to be an expert at using the scan-gun to pick product. I was trained for two days when I first started, then they put me in the packing section, where I've worked exclusively all this time. Now that I'm an official employee, I'm expected to know the scan-gun. They understood that I'm behind on my training, so I'm doing the best I can- but apart from that, I'm working as steadily as before- no more painkillers, and I'm doing about 90% of what I was doing before- a few heavier tasks I'm leaving to my partner, but things are going well. I'm not sure how busy we'll be during peak season- normally, Mondays are the heaviest, and the rest of the week is a cakewalk. If we're working six days a week, how can we do prep work for the next day? I'm sure there's some sort of plan.

Sounds like you're recovering well. Have you noticed the pain from the hernia has gone, or has the discomfort from the operation just replaced it? It'll be great when you feel genuinely comfortably, and I'm glad you're not lifting anything that could hamper recovery.

Glad you became in official employee. I don't thing the gun is hard to use, and it saves to much time that used to be spent on inventory. Just remember, 72 hours in mandatory Saturdays are no fun, but the fact the have that much business is job security for you. I know the hours suck, but it's only for three months. Make that your mantra!

Make that your mantra! It's going well, actually. I'm probably 80-90% ready to go with the scan gun, thanks to my fellow co-workers and constant practice on slow days. They're also having me work in a few other areas, but this is a good thing. Not only is it not physically taxing, but it's fun in an odd sort of way. The new areas are right alongside everyone else, so I get to be around a crowd. My regular area tends to be quiet unless my partner and I have a chance to chat. I don't mind being alone, but I also don't mind working alongside people if the atmosphere is jolly. The heavy workloads start this Friday!

That sounds pretty good, it's still so nice to get work updates that don't involve you having the life squeezed out of you. I hope the step up at the end of the week is manageable.

The Christmas season and winter. I imagine they are Weather Techs busiest seasons. At least everyone speaks English, and when you work with others, you can join in the conversation. What a nice change Bean, I know how you are about Christmas before the season begins. Vic said he was going to get out the christmas tree and see if it was still good. We've had it for years. Next thing I knew it was set up in our living room, and all the deccies were going up outside. It look very cheerful at night, but it's not even Thanksgiving, yet. Every time I say that Hubby just laughs. It's going to be a long Christmas season!

That's funny! But how lovely he enjoys it so much.
I've actually relented a bit this year to go and look at the Christmas displays in different shops with my daughter - I tried to hold her off until December, but she was too enthusiastic, so I gave in in the end!

I never wanted to wait until the stores were crowded with people. Yes, there are so nice things put out at the last minute, but I always preferred to get my shopping done early. Glad you went with her. She won't be around to ship with much longer.
