I entirely agree with you Piggles love, I think life just gets in the way sometimes and certain things have to take a back seat. I just hope they are all OK.
Lots of love Jo xx

Life certainly does get in the way - there have been a few periods where I've struggled to spend any significant time on here. If it hadn't been my forum so I'd felt more obliged to keep up the routine of bobbing on to make sure all was well, I'd probably have drifted away at some point too (I think I had a period of a few years where I barely made it on the guinea pig forums at all and just managed a bit of light banter in the chatterbox - luckily we had [and have] great mods who kept things ticking over!). There have been other forums I've really enjoyed going on but just drifted away during busier periods and never got round to going back. I'm certainly glad all the people who have passed through did find us, at least for a while. And you hope the things that are keeping them busy are good things.

If I no longer had piggies, I think I would find it easier to make other priorities, and I think that's what's happened with a lot of our members. They get married, divorced, have a baby, get a full time job, relocate or stop having piggies for one reason or another. As much as they enjoyed being on the forum, life changed, and they have to change with it. I do wish I knew that they were doing well, and were happy.

What two lovely posts. I would hate to lose touch with my friends on here even if I didn't have piggies anymore and things would have to be pretty drastic for me to give up my piggies, I cannot imagine life without them. it is true though, other things crop up and life gets in the way and people just leave. It isn't their intention at the time, it just happens when priorities take over.

That's so true, Jo. I don't think most of the former or lapsed members chose to stop posting. They just got busy with other things that took priority. They tend to slowly stop posting, drifting away as life takes over. I just hope they're all doing really well

The piggies are enjoying the lights in Pigloo City. I hope the light create enough light/shadow to give Morty a much better idea of what's in his path! So far so good. The lights has a low setting and a high setting, so I set them on low overnight, and on high during the day. They're LEDs, so not making a dent in the electric bill.

Bazookagoof, he would probably nip you for that, lol He's doing much better without the t-shirt, so I think the whole issue of catching his nails in it, not feeling right when he walked, not being able to groom himself, etc., all added up to a stumbly piggy. He's been grooming himself and much more active, since the bath and lack of shirt. I have to admit, he did look kind of cute I gave the piggies some kale stems, and from the amount of popcorning I got from the girls, I'd say they were a huge hit Oodles even got up on the grid house and popcorned up there I have to regulate how much they get, as it's very high in calcium, and I don't want any problems with stones, so I put hubby on the 'piles of while crystals' watch, in case he sees some I don't see.

Their beloved cardboard box house is back in Pigloo City. I cut off the parts that could catch the tumor, trimmed all the currently ragged edges, and removed the bottom of the doorway that still had a bottom. The other bottom was chewed away. The grid teepee wasn't working, as the girls bounced it around until it blocked areas where he wanted to go, and the white fleece covering kept falling down. I have it back in Pigloo City, and they are three very happy piggies. Their huge, wonderful chew toy house is back I've decided I can't stop the bleeding, and have to apply the styptic powder more often, and that trying to remove everything that could possibly cause the bleeding hasn't worked. Might as well let them have their chew house back

I checked back in this thread for when I first introduced the fabulous cardboard box house to Pigloo City. July 3. It is finally showing too much wear to last much longer, though since Morty is almost blind, I will try to keep it running for as long as possible. The two front windows were chewed into one large opening. The two back windows now longer have any real definition, and the pigs have started chewing away one of the legs holding up the box. Hubby is going to keep an eye out for a good box, when he goes food shopping, so we can get a decent replacement in there for them, that won't give Morty any trouble. I will take after pictures, when it finally falls apart. For piggies, nothing beats a great, solid cardboard box house

We got a new cardboard box Hubby found a perfect one at the grocery store, so the kids will get a new cardboard box house for Christmas. I'm sure they'll be thrilled to have a more substantial house to chew

After we lost Morty, I tried a few different arrangements in Pigloo City. Pigloos and plastic tube runs, the grid houses with pigloos and plastic tube runs. I put the chew log back in the cage. The girls liked some of it, but with the pigloos, they were always in separate houses, while with the cardboard box, they were always together in the box. So finally, after a lot of trial and error, the cardboard box house is back in the cage, along with the the two grid houses. The girls have discovered getting under the fleece pad, and nothing I've done to discourage it, putting the heavy chew log or lots of extra tubes and pigloos, worked. So I gave in to the desire to play under the fleece. Daily I remove the whole pad, shake it off into the cage, clear any poos off the bottom, clean the fiberglass screen covering the wood pellets, and replace the fleece. It's like Christmas for them each time I put the cleaned fleece pad back in the cage, and they are under it before I can get the first house back in the cage. The fiberglass window screen is fabulous, because it protects the pellet bedding from getting full of poos and needing to be changed constantly. If you're using the fiberglass window screen, there are different types, and the one I use feels more like fabric than like screen. No sore feet for the girls playing on it. I have a piece of pet screen in the kitchen area right now, and while it's incredibly resilient screen, I will change back to the softer screen as soon as I get another piece. It's not a bad screen, just not quite as soft under foot as the other screen.

Oodles having lunch with Morty. The girls visiting Morty. I miss my beautiful boy, and I think the girls really miss him, too. Noodles seems to be on Oodles case a lot more, and I think it's because there's no one else to district her. Now that hubby is working again, I may start looking for another pig. My major concern, as always, is having the newbie cause more problems than they resolve. That's usually not the case if I add a boar, but Morty definitely didn't bring Mia and Momo together.
